While up at the 2024 World Championships in Calgary at Spruce Meadows, we were able to sit down with guests we don't get to see often because they live across the world in England, so it was awesome to get to have a chat with Alex Collier and George Rogerson. What we find is really cool is that when we chatted, nobody knew who the new World Champion was going to be yet and now that we're releasing this episode it has been announced that George Rogerson is the 2024 World Champion Blacksmith! Congratulations George and to everyone else who competed at the World Championships. It's a very exciting time amongst us knowing this information and feeling that buzz being around so many talented and motivated farriers.
We enjoyed having this conversation with Alex and George, getting to hear how they both became farriers and their journeys to becoming some of the best in the world. It's cool to hear how similar they are to us in the states but yet their system they have to abide by in the UK sets them apart from us too. It's apparent that they both wanted to become farriers and once they got on this path, they set their minds to it to become the best of the best. Hope you enjoy this episode and we'll have more out soon from our trip at the World Championships.

Hey there! Stan needs urgent brain surgery, and on top of that, his home plumbing is in shambles. Every donation, no matter how small, can help them cover these critical expenses, so please click the link below to donate or share their story. Thank you so much for your support!
We had a great conversation with our guest, Mike Stone. Unfortunately the wifi coverage wasn't the greatest and had some lag time and made our conversation cut short. But we got a great introduction of how Mike got into this trade of farriery. It's always interesting to hear how people didn't intend on shoeing horses in the beginning but ended up finding it and falling in love with it for their life and career. Mike's no stranger to competing and has competed with the best of em for over 20 years and always manages to pull off a best shod foot bucket! That goes to show that he knows his way around trimming and fitting up feet really good. We hope you enjoy this week's episode and will catch ya at the next one!

We recently were able to head down to New Mexico to hang out at WCB headquarters and while we were there we wanted to sit down with Craig to hear what else is on his mind and is going on within the WCB. Craig's a fountain of knowledge and a man that can shoot inspiration into you, if you're willing to listen. I gained motivation throughout our conversation to become better and strive for more and I think you will too listening to this episode!

Man this was a great episode with our special guest, Robbie Mederos! You'll hear in this episode that Robbie worked in a different field for over a decade and then one day decided enough is enough, quit that job and decided to pursue a career that had meaning and can bring happiness. Robbie is a second generation farrier that was taught by his dad is Bob Mederos who has had lots of success as well. There were so many details and tips Robbie provided throughout this episode that hit home for us on Forging Brains Podcast and we think you'll dig em too. Throughout Robbie's career he has focused in on the finer details to bring out that artistic side within himself but made sure not to skip over the fact that the basics need to be there for either sound horseshoeing, impressive shoemaking or competitive horseshoeing. Robbie has qualified for the American Farrier's Team and has competed internationally at the highest level as well. Let us know what your favorite tip was that Robbie shared with us in the comments!

We sat down and thought it would be cool to talk about the shoe list for the next WCB in Edgewood as if we were to be getting ready to make the shoes for the first time. Consider it like if we were sitting down with each other and figuring out what steps we're going to be needing to do with each shoe before we even cut any steel. Getting a game plan together! Although we're not entered in Edgewood this year, we thought it may be helpful for some of you that are in the midst of getting these shoes figured out. Let us know if you thought this was a good listen and if you'd like us to do more of these in the future!

This week's guest can school us on a lot of things to become a successful, professional farrier- Bob Pethick. Bob has shod horses professionally for over 50 years and not only just regular type horses, high dollar, high stress, top level sport horses that compete at the highest level for the United States Equestrian Team for nearly his whole career. He had it set in his mind from day 1 of starting his career that he wanted to shoe the highest level caliber horses and made that happen for over 37 years now. That just blows my mind to be honest! I think that speaks volumes about the quality of work Bob commits to every day and also Bob's character for being able to maintain those relationships for that long. All the while he was able to do this, Bob competed at the highest level and was selected to become a member of the North American Horseshoeing Team 2 times and also earning a spot on the American Farriers Team 5 times and those years were with some of the more well known guys in our industry like Jim Poor, Craig Trnka, Shayne Carter and many other badasses! Amongst many other accolades and accomplishments Bob has earned, Bob was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame in 2006. I think there's a lot to be gained by sitting down and listening to a guy like Bob talk and soak up the knowledge he has to share. Enjoy the episode!

If you're listening to this episode, you probably already know Riley & Gavine are firm believers in continuing education by attending clinics or competing in contests. But in this episode we covered some key tips for you if you are looking to host a clinic or competition. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to put on a successful clinic or contest. It requires a fair bit of infrastructure for everything to go smooth and keep your clinician happy, as well as, the clinic attendees. So, we broke it down with what may be required if you're looking to host a clinic of your own. Also, there's some tidbits in there if you haven't attended a clinic or contest before, what to expect to bring or have with you when you attend an event. If there's something you think we've missed in the episode, feel free to drop a comment and let us know!

You've heard it here first folks and heard that correctly, John Mcnerney (Yukon Forge) is taking over for Jim Poor's (Flatland Forge) driving hammer business! It's no secret that Jim Poor has built a strong empire of tools throughout his career over at Flatland Forge and couldn't be more fitting for a guy like John to take over that part of the business. Lot of the time what happens when someone takes over a great business, they run it into the ground and start making bad products. But that won't be the case with Yukon Forge taking the driving hammers into his arsenal of tool production. John has been in this industry for many decades and knows a thing or two about building great tools, which is a perfect recipe for success. The hammers will still be made the same way except the logo will become different after a small collaboration of the two brands are sold out. If you're wanting to purchase one of these hammers go to www.yukonforge.com and use code BRAINS at checkout for 10% off your order as well!
We know we've been absent with uploading consistent episodes the past few weeks but sometimes we get super busy in life and they supersede other objectives we do but we are trying our best to get episodes uploaded on a weekly basis!
This week we have a great guest who a lot of you may know and love, Tyson Clark! As you'll hear in this episode, Tyson has been shoeing horses for many years and didn't get into the competitive horseshoeing world until 15 years after he initially started shoeing. Tyson has been an avid competitor and ambassador of this trade through many associations. He has been on the American Farrier's Team two times and many top 5 finishes with the World Championship Blacksmiths. I think one great takeaway from this episode is, everyone's path in life is different and that's perfectly ok. Just because you're not flashing through all your goals and accomplishments right away, doesn't mean that they will never happen. You have to keep working at them and putting forth that effort to succeed.
We hope everyone that is headed of to the WCB season opener in Madison, travels safe and has a great time competing there this weekend!
