In my book Forward After 50 I interviewed ten women, and unanimously they mentioned a fear of ageing is loneliness and isolation from the community.
Environment, culture and circumstances impact communities, sometimes bringing unwelcome loneliness at any age. Disconnection can lead to depression and fear, which crushes your confidence and is hardly conducive to ageing positively. On the other hand, the connection makes us feel worthwhile and allows us to learn from each other, create together, exchange emotions, laugh and cry. We are social, not solitary animals.
In this episode, I chat with Shirley Kennett about the importance of being part of a community and creating communities where people can connect. Shirley found an opportunity to tackle loneliness and isolation post the covid pandemic for people of all ages. The result has been life-changing for so many.
