  • “Quiet Life”, interview with the director Alexandros Avranas

“Quiet Life“, the film by Alexandros Avranas, tells us about a little-known syndrome that affects children from refugee families, who cannot cope with the stress and problems related to their situation. It is called Child Resignation Syndrome, it is growing and there is no specific therapy yet to fight it. The film is included in the Orizzonti  competition, at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

    The syndrome as a metaphor

Alexandros Avranas recounts the reality but uses it as a metaphor for the general situation of refugees in the world: they are invisible and remain under the radar all the time, without anything being done, as in the case of the protagonist girl’s illness.

    A political and moral issue

“Quiet Life” also poses a moral question and a political issue. What world are we leaving to our children, what will the new generations have to do to survive and have a dignified life? This is a question that Aleandros Avranas asked himself in making the film and it comes out forcefully.

  • Inteview with the director Peter Weir, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award

Peter Weir is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The helmer met with Angelo Acerbi to share some thoughts on his filmmaking and on the inspiration he has been, and still is, for generations of film directors and film goers.

I did my part and  I decided to retire

Peter Weir decided four years ago  that it was time for him to stop making films and retire. He admits that this decision was easy: ha did his part in the movie world, he could leave the job to younger people.

It is the film that chooses me

With a 40years’ career and “only” 14 films made, Peter Weir tells us how his decisional process works, when it’s time to choose which film to make: the story has to resonate with him, basically the films choose him and not the other way round.

  • “M – Son of the century”, interview with director Joe Wright and actor Luca Marinelli

“M- Son of the century“, the eight-part series on Mussolni and his political rise, premiered at the 81st Venice Film Festival.

Directed by Joe Wright, it’s a contemporary portrait of Mussolini and his creation: Fascism. An international project based on the bestselling Premio Strega-winning novel by Antonio Scurati with Italian actor Luca Marinelli in the role of the Duce.

Luca Marinelli and Joe Wright explain how they found the right balance in creating an entertaining show while making sure not to create a distance, a separation between the man Mussolini and the political.

“I think it was important not to portray him as the devil or someone from another planet. He belongs to us, he came from us” Marinelli comments.

Marinelli’s Mussolini breaks the fourth wall and speaks his mind. The audience will then understand more about what nobody knows about that moment in history.

Joe Wright reminds us the connection M- Son of the century has with the present time we’re living in. History repeats itself.

“Everyone thinks they know what a fascist is and that was Mussolini’s invention. As the far right has risen around the world it’s been an opportunity for me to take responsibility and understand what’s happening now through the prism of what happened then” Joe Wright remarks.

  • “Wolfs”, interview with actors Amy Ryan and Austin Abrams

Premiered at the 81st Venice Film Festival, out of competition, “Wolfs” by Jon Watts brings back together the amazing duo Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

Scheduled to debut in select theaters on September 20, 2024 and premiering globally on Apple TV+ on September 27, the film counts on the participation of two actors beside Pitt and Clooney: Amy Ryan and Austin Abrams.

As Jon Watts remarks in his press notes, Ryan and Abrams can walk that “tightrope between deadly serious and completely ridiculous” that is essential for a film like Wolfs.

Oscar-nominated actress Amy Ryan plays The Politician, the one calling the mysterious number she was given in case she needed a fixer.

Austin Abrams, a rising star, plays The Kid and gets to share the most amazing and hilarious scenes with the two friends and frenemies in the film, Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
