Sometimes we have to protect ourselves from our narcissistically injured families and co-workers by drawing boundaries, and going minimal polite contact to NO contact. Sibling rivalry, another form of family disconnect has its cause in parents creating conflict and competition amongst the children. When children are pitted against each other, they can grow up to dislike each other.  With the hurricanes threatening our citizens, please surround yourself with loving supportive people. It's not a good time to connect to people who hurt you, as you need all the emotional support you can get.
