If someone killed someone else accidentally, the avenger could seek the life of the slayer. However, the slayer could flee to the cities of refuge. The slayer had to stay in the city until the death of the high priest and then he could return to his own land.----1. These cities teach us regarding God's justice--God values life and He must have justice done.----2. These cities teach us regarding God's mercy--God provides us a place to flee.----3. These cities teach us regarding God's promise of pardon--God pardons us from our sins if we flee to Him.

  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

Title: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 1/28/2018
    Bible: Joshua 16-19
    Length: 47 min.

Overview: In Joshua 16 through 19, we see this strange event of the giving of the inheritance. God uses a lot to divide the land and unexpectedly gives the inheritance to the younger Ephraim rather than the older Manasseh. Though all this may seem to involve mere chance, we know in truth that the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord. Though God is sovereign over these affairs, we know as well that the actions of men have consequences. We look at that here.----1. The good--The daughters of Zelophehad behaved in a good manner -16-4-. They had a promise from God and they asked for it. God wants us to ask for those things He wants to give us. What things are we missing in our spiritual experience because we are not asking-----2. The bad--The bad comes with the inability to drive out the Canaanites -16-10-. They had an initial inability to do it. Then they made a decision to accept tribute from the Canaanites rather than drive them out. There was no war -14-15- but that was not a good thing because there was war to be fought and drive out the Canaanites. It was in God's revealed will to drive them out -Deut 7-1-7-. They were strong enough to drive them out, but they choose to do what was convenient rather than drive them out. Beware of the danger of the gradual. We can gradually fall into compromise and sin. We can pitch our tents toward Sodom in a subtle manner like Lot. Don't embrace the world in your heart. Little by little and bit by bit the world enters your heart. Beware.----3. The ugly--We see the ugliness of unbelief -17-16-18-. The problem was not that their inheritance was too small but they were unwilling to work for it. They had a discontented unbelieving heart.

  • Faith In Action
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: Faith In Action
    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 1/21/2018
    Bible: Joshua 15
    Length: 43 min.

Overview: There is an interaction between faith and action. True biblical faith leads to action. Like William Cary, Caleb was a man who believed great things of God -Joshua 14- and attempted great things for God -Joshua 15-. Caleb demonstrates that faith leads to action. In this message, we examine Caleb's faith and his faith in action.----1. We see his faith in the fight -1-14---He drives out the Anakims. He single handedly does what the whole nation feared to do -Numbers 13-27-33-. A fraction of the nation and a fraction of the tribe of Caleb was able to do what a whole nation feared to do. Faith produces works --your work of faith- - 1 Thess 1-3-. When we have faith in the power of God, we can do that which seems impossible. By believing prayer, great obstacles can be removed -Mark 11-23-24-----2. We see his faith in his family life -1-15-19---Caleb selected her husband. It was a cultural thing. It does not mean that is what we should do. But parental guidance is important. People are raised today to despise the wisdom of their parents. Caleb showed himself to be a man who cared for his family. This is seen in his interaction with his daughter--2a. his petition -1-18---He asked what she needed. That shows care.--2b. his protection -1-15-17---Caleb wanted his daughter to be given to the right man. Othniel was a man of courage and courage is a mark of faith -1 Cor 16-13-. Caleb wants a man of faith for his daughter. That shows his protection of her--2c. his provision -1-19---She asked for a spring and he provided more than she asked----3. We see his faith in his Christ likeness--We see a greater than Caleb here. Like Caleb, Christ whole followed the Lord and secured God's promises

    Bible: Romans 6:13
    Length: 46 min.

Overview: Chapters 6 and 7 of Romans show us that while sin does remain in the believer it does no longer reign. Last time we looked at these teachings in terms of being dead to sin. This time we are looking them in terms of being alive to God. Paul shows us 3 main things about this subject in Romans 6.----1. The overall subject is sanctification----2. The objective securing of our sanctification----3. There are other scriptures that are in agreement----4. The ongoing summons of our sanctification----Those who profess to be alive unto God must realize that they are free to live unto God. We must then use our -instruments- to serve God.

    Title: Death Unto Sin
    Subtitle: The Book of Romans
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 1/14/2018
    Bible: Romans 6
    Length: 44 min.

Overview: In this message, we are looking at the theme of what it means for a justified believer to be -dead to sin.-----1. This theme introduced--To be dead to sin does not mean we are not affected by sin. Because of our death to sin you will no longer live in sin----2. This theme examined--- our death to sin is paralleled with Christ's death to sin--- our death to sin is in union with Christ's death unto sin--- our death to sin is unto newness of life unto God----3. This theme applied--For the true believer sin remains, yet it does not remain. The reign and dominion of sin is broken through Christ's death on the cross.

  • The Faith of Caleb
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: The Faith of Caleb
    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 1/14/2018
    Bible: Joshua 14
    Length: 45 min.

Overview: God is pleased to draw attention to individuals in His Word. These accounts serve as examples, either for good or ill. Caleb is an example for good. He is no ordinary individual. He comes at 85 years old to claim his inheritance. Caleb is one who wholly followed the Lord -14- 8, 9, 14-. He acted in faith. There is a contrast given to Caleb here in his faithless brethren who made the people fear -14-8-. Caleb is a striking example of a faith with which God is pleased.----1.Faith is an encounter with God--1a. Caleb is convinced of the promise of God--14-6 - he highlights what God has said--14-10 - he is holding onto the promise of God made to him 45 years earlier--1b. Caleb is convinced of the power of God--Num 14-9 - he knew the Lord would be with him when going into the land--14-12 - he reaffirms the same belief in God's presence and power----2. Faith experiences life by seeing him who is invisible--true faith is not a momentary experience--true faith continues on living not by sight--Num 14-8 - Caleb doesn't deny the giants but he also doesn't deny what is unseen--14-10 - he understands God has given him life to do His will----3. Faith embraces challenges as opportunities to see God--14-12 - Give me the difficult that I might see the power of the divine--See difficulties as opportunities to prove God's power is sufficient for you----4. Faith endures through the years--Forty years in the wilderness. Then due to the unbelief of others, he has to wait 45 years. But he continues in faith----5. Faith engages the enemy--14-11 - he has strength for war----6. Faith encourages others--14-8 - unbelief is deadly----7. Faith entreats God for the promised inheritance--14-12
