In these verses, we look at Paul's exposition of what hope is and what hope does. There are 4 statements of doctrine that are presented to us-----1. Salvation is both a present delight and a future prospect----2. Neither our present standing in grace nor our future hope exempt us from tribulation----3. Tribulations indirectly strengthen our hope----4. Because our hope is strengthened we glory in tribulations

  • Victory in God's kingdom
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: Victory in God's kingdom
    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 11/5/2017
    Bible: Joshua 12
    Length: 41 min.

Overview: Apologies for the poor quality of this recording.----Why is this list of defeated kings recorded- They are names and places far removed from us- Note the repetition of the word -one. The Israelites were given a land that was ruled many different kings. They were defeated one by one and were put under God's reign. The victories were all God's victories. Revelation 11-15 shows the ushering in of the eternal estate where all the kingdoms of this world are become our Lord's kingdom. In the end Christ will rule over all. In Joshua 12, we see a glimpse of what happens in the eternal state when the meek inherit the earth. The inheritance now is ruled by the devil and his angels, but they will all be put down one by one. In this message, we look at victory in God's kingdom----1. The victory in the purpose of God--We see a comprehensive victory. All the kings are defeated. There is land left to possess, but that does not change the fact they are defeated. Victory is announced publicly. Christ's victory is also public -Col 2-14-15-. Christ is shown to be a victorious King in the book of Matthew.----2. The veracity of the promises of God--Deut 31-3-4 shows God's promise to defeat the kings. Zion and Og were the firstfruits of victory. In Joshua 12, we see that once again God is faithful and able to keep his word. Christ has promised us a glorious resurrection and it will come to pass.----So this chapter gives us a glorious insight into our future. We will have our inheritance. How does that impact what I do today---1. It saves you from discouragement--2. Make sure you are a friend of Christ and not an enemy.--3. Run from the futility of fighting with God.

    Bible: Romans 10
    Length: 44 min.

Overview: The Reformation was a time of doctrinal and ecclesiastical reform. More significantly, it was a time when the Bible was brought to the ears of the common man. People were brought out of the deadness of religion into the glory of being the children of God. In Romans 10, we see a picture of the progress the Word made during the Reformation----1. Availability of the Word -10-4-8---You don't have to plumb the depths or scale the heights to find Christ. Christ is near in the Word and the preaching of the gospel. The Reformation brought the gospel near again.----2. Necessity of the Word -10-9-14---Faith is essential. Preaching is essential. The Reformation brought back the centrality of preaching. It is a troubling sign when churches lessen the importance of preaching----3. Simplicity of the Word -10-15---We have a message that shows the way to peace with God for sinners who are at enmity with God. Reformation preaching had a message that was simple at its core.----4. Authority of the Word -10-15---This is seen in the word 'sent'. The Reformation preaching was bold and fearless as it declared the authoritative Word of God----5. Beauty of the Word -10-15---The feet bring a message which is beautiful----6. Generosity of the Word -10-12---The Reformation made known the Lord's riches----7. Sovereignty in the Word -10-20---The Reformation showed God's sovereignty. It is seen in the truth that people who are not seeking the Lord are the ones that actually find him. By nature we do not seek Christ, but by the mercy of the new birth we come to seek him----8. Responsibility to the Word -10-21---God still holds those that do not find him responsible for their sin.

Overview: Martin Luther believed that just because you were forgiven doesn't mean you can live as you please. Just because we are not under the law does not mean we should not govern our lives by it. This message deals with 2 things regarding repentance-----1. Repentance is a radical repentance--When we repent, we turn from abominable sinful lives to holy lives that please God. Repentance is not just feeling sad about your sin. It includes sorrow, but it leads from sorrow to the change.--- repentance is a change of mind--- repentance is a change of direction----2. Repentance is a perpetual practice--When we repent, we do not continue to live in sin. Instead, we aim to please God in all that we do by the help of the Holy Spirit.--- there is a hatred of sin--- there is a confession of sin--- there is a mortification of sin

    Bible: Jeremiah 36
    Length: 55 min.

Overview: All books of the Bible are in perfect harmony. Everything you need to now is found in this book. This is the only book written by God. It is the only book that can give life. At the time of the Reformation, the scripture was written and spoken in Latin. The word of God was restricted to the pope and the priest. Jeremiah 36 is a microcosm of the entire Bible ----1. publication of God's word -1-2---Take what God has spoken and write it down. It needed to be written down so it could be passed on. These were God's words. The printing press allowed people to read Luther's 95 theses.----2. purpose of God's word -3---It may be.... There is a warning. Great is the fury he says later on -7-. How can you escape the damnation of hell- God gives the warning so people may repent. The Pharisee saw no need for repentance, but the publican did. God desires to forgive but there is no forgiveness without repentance.----3. proclamation of God's word -4-6---Therefore, go...It is proclaimed in the Lord's house. We cannot assume people that come to church are saved. It was proclaimed to the king -21-.----4. pardoning in God's word -7a---When they return, God will pardon. The way of escape is not by praying the rosary.----5. punishment in God's word -7b---Fury is for sure. Purgatory is an illusion----6. perseverance of God's word -23-31---The king burned the Word. God told Jeremiah to write it again. God is giving them a second chance. God perseveres with sinful people.----7. perpetuity of God's word -32---And there were added besides unto them many like words. The grass withers and the flower fades but God's word remains forever. The king could not stop God's word.

  • Sovereign Over All

    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 10/15/2017
    Bible: Joshua 11:20
    Length: 43 min.

Overview: Interwoven in the description of the northern conquest in Joshua 11 is the theme of God's sovereignty. But what does this mean- In simple terms, it means He controls all things. We often think of it in terms of election but the term is far broader than that. It has been said that God either rules over all or he does not rule at all. God's sovereignty is writ large in this chapter----Overview----1. coalition -1-5---The wicked kings come together against the Lord and His people----2. comfort -6---Be not afraid for I will deliver----3. conflict -7---Conflict is not quick but ends in victory----The Lesson- God's sovereignty is seen----1. in His authority to command -12---Joshua destroyed as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. Jehovah gave the initial command and it was passed on. There is no debate or argumentation with God on the part of Moses or Joshua.----2. in His bringing victory in conflict -6-9---2a. In his words to his people -6---These words would mean nothing if God did not rule over all--2b. in His working through His people -7-8---We see the agency of men and sovereignty of God. Mark 16-20 mentions the Lord working with them. The dignity and honor of the gospel laborer is that God is pleased to use them. The Anakims were mentioned by unbelieving spies but in 21-22 they are gone. God works with us and through us.--2c. in His warning to the people -9---The people had to destroy instruments of war rather than use them. It is a warning not to forget God is in the ultimate authority. Joshua heeded the warning.----3. in His conduct toward enemies -20---If you are determined to rebel, your soul is in peril. Joshua 11 is justice. The gospel is mercy.

  • The Glory of Justification
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: The Glory of Justification
    Subtitle: The Book of Romans
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 10/15/2017
    Bible: Romans 5:1-2
    Length: 43 min.

Overview: In this passage, we learn of justification and the glory that awaits us as believers. In particular, we look at our past, present, and future and the impact it has on us----1. Our past justification brings us into the sphere of God's grace----Our past justification affects our present. Being justified is to be in the grace of God. Through Christ's work of redemption, all who believe are brought into a standing of grace.----2. Our past justification is the ground upon which we enjoy present access----Our access is not just to be brought by Christ into the presence of God once and then leave. We must stay there. Our sense of unworthiness to pray must be put to death. To stand silent before the King is a very serious matter. When we are prayerless we deny our privileges.----3. Our future confidence is that we will know the glory of God----Our future prospect affects the present. If we realize that we will always be in God's favor we can look forward to the future.----4. We rejoice in the present----Our past and our future change the present. We can rejoice that this world is not all that there is. Romans 5-2 can have a great impact on the rest of our lives.
