  • Peace With God
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: Peace With God
    Subtitle: The Book of Romans
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 10/8/2017
    Bible: Romans 5:1
    Length: 46 min.

Overview: In this message we learn about justification by faith.----Overview-----1. The enmity that must be recognized--The need for peace presumes enmity between God and man. Men are not born in a position of neutrality. They are hostile toward God. It is also true that God is hostile towards the sinner. The only just response to the rebellion of man is for God to react in wrath.----2. The enemies that are reconciled--Our disposition toward God changes. God's disposition towards us changes. It is the new birth that causes our disposition towards God to change. That happens because God's disposition towards us changes.----3. The enjoyment that is realized--We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.----Application-----1. A word of warning--Make sure that if you have peace in your conscious that it's on the right grounds. Make sure it's because of Christ's mediation alone.----2. A word of challenge--A Christian living an unholy life is a terrible inconsistency.----3. A word of exhortation--Be assured of your relationship with Christ.----4. A word of comfort--Guilt is removed Gods wrath is appeased and the way is open for us to become friends of God. Our afflictions are because of God's love for us.

  • Sharing the Gospel in Loneliness
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

Title: Sharing the Gospel in Loneliness
Subtitle: The Gospel in Life's Troubles
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 10/1/2017
    Bible: Proverbs 18:24
    Length: 48 min.

Overview: Loneliness is an awareness that we do not have the social interaction we desire. Loneliness can be found in a crowd. We may be lonely when we shouldn't feel that way. Loneliness ought not to be felt in the church. The church is to be a place where saved souls become more and more like Christ and experience biblical freindship.----Friendship is explored in 3 ways-----1. The matter of friendship--When God made the world, he saw that it was not good for man to be alone so he made other people for him. To live friendless lives is to reject God's purpose for friends in our lives.----2. The mark of friendship--The rich always seem to have many friends. However, this is a false friendship. Their friends usually just want something from them. The mark of true friendship is love. Therefore, Christ is the ultimate Friend. He died on the cross for the sins of people who were not his friends----3. The manifestation of friendship--- there is the issue of compassion--- there is the matter of company--- there is the issue of conflict--When our friends begin to sin we must come into conflict with them for their good.--- the matter of counsel----When men let us down, we must remember our Savior, the perfect Friend.

    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 10/1/2017
    Bible: Joshua 10
    Length: 42 min.

Overview: The Bible contains 66 books but has a single theme- Christ who is the conquering king. He revealed himself to be that king when he came and will return as the same. Joshua 10 teaches that God is a man of war. The modern reader dislikes how God is presented in OT but He is the same as the Jesus of the NT. There is defeat of the enemy seen here but not yet conquest much like we experience in our lives. What we do see in Joshua 10 is that the Lord fought for Israel----Overview--1. context -10-1-2---Israel has Ai, Jericho and a league with Gibeon. They hold a central part of the land and the kings of the land are fearful----2. confederacy -10-3-5---One purpose was to overthrow the people of Israel.----3. concern of the Gibeonites -10-6-7---they are in trouble and seek help----4. comfort -10-8---Fear them not. The people of God need to realize God is on their side. Comfort comes from God's word.----5. conflict -10-9-15---speed- promises lead to activity--strategy--sword- God comes in judgment and panic sets in--slaughter--stones- shows God takes sin seriously--supplication--sun- God's sovereign power is at work----6. continuation -10-16-39---symbolic prison--successive victories----7. conclusion -10-40-43---a remarkable conquest----Application--1. God works in almighty power to execute his eternal purposes--2. God shows himself strong on behalf of his people--he works miraculously--he works mediately -meaning He works through his Son and his people---3. Bible: Philippians 4:6-7
    Length: 48 min.

Overview: Almost all -if not all- of us have experienced anxiety at some point in our life. Whatever the cause, the response of God's people must be the same. We must heed the word of Phillipians 4. There are things that will test us that may lead to anxiety. Paul says we are to pray about everything we go through.----1. The command is expressed -4-6a----Be careful for nothing...---- qualification of the command--This is not a command to be careless.--- clarification of the command--This means to be full of care for nothing. We are not to worry about anything.--- application of the command--When we are being anxious, we are not trusting God when He tells us that He will take care of us. Anxiety is essentially pride.----2. The command is expanded -4-6b----but in every thing by prayer...---- our mode of praying--We are to make our requests known unto God. We are to bring specific requests. Whenever care comes we need to throw it to God. It's a continual practice.--- our manner of praying--Our prayers must be God-centered. We must be careful not to just worry while we are praying. Nothing can separate us from God's love. Pray with thankfulness.--- matters for our praying--We are to pray to God about any problems we have.----3. The command is encouraged -4-7----And the peace of God...shall keep your hearts---We become anxious because we do not see the future. God knows everything about the future. Length: 56 min.

Overview: Depression is a very painful condition. We all have good and bad days. However, there are some who suffer from serious, and sometimes even chronic, depression. They lose their ability to enjoy life. They have no energy. They may have feelings that life isn't worth living and even contemplate thoughts of suicide. One word across it all is hopelessness. It is a common condition. People in the modern Western world suffer from depression, but it is not specifically a modern condition. However, it seems to be increasing. Why---- We have expectations of achievement upon us--- We chase pleasure, no matter what it may be--- We are discontented--But none of these things address the issue of cause.----1. Encountering depression--We should be sympathetic towards depressed people. We need to think about some of the potential causes. Symptoms of depression occur at various settings.--- Areas where there is an obvious cause--The experience of depression can result from conviction of sin. It may be a reaction to life's troubles and disappointments. It can also come with physical illness.--- Areas where there is not an obvious cause--Sometimes it's just because our brains are cursed from the fall. Sometimes God simply removes his light from us for his sovereign purpose.----2. Escape from depression--There is direction--There is exertion--There is application--We must endeavor to keep our eyes on Christ and apply the gospel. Depressed people talk to themselves. We must tell ourselves to listen to God for help. If we are to truly hope we need to focus on God.
