In this episode, I speak with Kyrah. She tells me of her journey into birthing her first child without having a medical professional present. 

While working in a birth centre while pregnant, Kyrah was seeing all the 1st time mothers being transferred to hospital and that started to get her wheels turning for finding a different way to birth. 

Kyrah decided to birth at home and tried to hire a Traditional Midwife, but with no response, ended up hiring a medical midwife to attend to her.

Kyrah and the Medical Midwife didn’t really vibe, but the tension that Kyrah felt acted as a way for her to trust herself and stand more in her power to birth her baby the way she wanted.

Listen to this journey of Kyrah believing that she could in fact have a pleasurable birth experience even after hearing her Medical Midwife say that that’s not possible for any woman and also not believing Kyrah when she expressed where she was during her birthing process.

Today, I’m speaking with Ashley. She tells me of the two different birth experiences she had while living in the GCC. 

Her first child was born in a hospital setting where Ashley had her waters ruptured without her consent which caused her birth to increase faster than she was ready for. Ashley had a moment where she decided to not get an epidural and relied on her faith to get her through the experience and birthed her baby vaginally. 

By the time, Ashley was pregnant with her second child, she attended a birth within the hospital system and was more traumatized by that experience than the birthing mother herself. After that Ashley found the guidance of a local Wise Woman to walk with her throughout the second pregnancy journey and who also had a birth outside of the medical system.

In the GCC, it’s very difficult to actually birth in this way, so Ashley had to jump through quite a few hoops to ensure that she would be able to get a birth certificate and passport for her child once born.

Ashley did have the peaceful birth that she wanted, but had to enter the system in order to get the paperwork, which proved to be quite a journey in and of itself.

Today I’m speaking with Karen. She tells me of the journey she took before she was pregnant. She started to heal her inner child, nourish her body through eating animal and traditional foods and really took this pre-conception time that she was about to go on very seriously.

Through her experiences of healing and knowledge, Karen was opened up to the idea of wild pregnancy and freebirthing. The empowerment of that concept really stuck with Karen and led her into another journey of stepping into her power for pregnancy and birth.

In this episode, I speak with Brianna.  This is a very special episode because Brianna is a mother of 3 children and her first 2 babies we born via cesarean.

With her third, Brianna took her power back and birthed that baby completely free of the medical system, to have an amazing and healing vaginal birth.

This is such an inspiring story because so many women are told that after they’ve had a cesarean its almost impossible to birth your subsequent children vaginally. And sadly, most women who’ve had their first child via cesarean will just end up staying within the medical system and believing the lies that surgical birth is the only way for them.

Brianna’s story breaks that conditioned narrative wide open and proves that birth after any number of cesareans is absolutely possible and actually much safer than going back to the medical establishment that harmed you unnecessarily the first place.

Today I speak with Simone. She talks to me about going down the free birthing rabbit hole and choosing to birth her first child completely free of the medical system. The straw that broke the camel’s back for Simone making her final decision to freebirth was when she witnessed her cat birth 7 of her kittens freely at home.

Simone. was very adamant that because it was only herself and her husband who conceived the baby, it was only necessary to have just the two of them present for the birth — a notion that I completely agree with.

This is a beautiful story of Simone holding her boundaries to get the birth that she wanted with her first baby and then to go on and birth her second child free of the medical system too.

In this episode, I speak with Davana. She has had 2 births outside of the medical system following a very unnecessary cesarean with her first child.

Davana’s fist birth ended abruptly with an unnecessary cesarean for a baby, that during a non-stress test showed no heart tones. Without further information to back this finding, Davana was fully put under anesthesia to have her baby cut from her body. She later came to the realization that the information given to her was false, as it happens for most, if not all “emergency” cesareans.

Because Davana never had the chance to even feel what the start of her birth process could feel like, she chose to take her power back the second time she got pregnant. Davana had a wild pregnancy — not seeking any medical care and then went on to birth free of the medical system during a huge snow storm that hit Texas a few years back.

Her third pregnancy was wild as well, but nearing the end of this pregnancy, Davana was hit with some news that could have completely rocked her to her core. She does mention that it did a little bit and there was some processing and grieving to do, but Davana choose to hold onto the idea of loving kindness over misery for the situation that she was thrust into and birthed this third baby free of the medical system too.

In this episode, I speak with Brielle. She started her birthwork journey, as most young women do, working within the medical model of industrialized birth. 

Over time, Brielle was able to align to the physiologic and natural way of birth and started stepping into the realm of birth work outside of the system. 

Brielle has been on a spiritual journey of growth, not only for herself, but for the women that she supports in birth as she lives in the mountain of Peru at this time.

Today, I talk to Fiona. Her story is truly an incredible one. Fiona has 2 children and the journey from her first birth to her second is quite the tale.

Her first baby was diagnosed with omphalocele, that’s when some of the baby’s inner organs have stayed outside of the body while in utero. This all happened during the mess of 2020, so to spare herself greater trauma of potentially birthing completely alone, Fiona chose to have a cesarean section for the delivery of her child. 

Fiona was separated from her baby straight away and as her newborn was in the care of the medical providers to be prepped for surgery, the medical staff overdosed her tiny infant and almost killed him. It wasn’t until 3 days after birth that Fiona was finally able to hold her newborn child and wasn’t able to breastfeed until 1 week later.

Needless to say, his journey into life was traumatic as was Fiona’s but I’m going to leave the rest of that story here so that you can hear from Fiona’s words how all that experience went for her. 

I will say though, that Fiona took her power back when she got pregnant for the second time and chose to birth her second child completely free of the medical system. Even when her placenta stayed within her womb for 36 hours, Fiona had trust that it would emerge when it was ready to do so and it did.

Today, I’m speaking with Danielle. We talk about her first birth within a birth centre. The experience ended with her son being unnecessarily pulled from her body by the medical midwife, causing tearing to her vulva.

After having a friend mention to Danielle that what had happened to her, during her first birth, was not right, Danielle came to realize that for her next babies she wasn’t going to pay to have another provider pull them from her body.

She chose to birth free of the medical system with her second baby, where her placenta stayed in for a longer that what’s considered normal amount of time. All was well and Danielle trusted her instincts and safely released it when it was ready.

For her third birth, Danielle’s mother passed away before the baby was born, but Danielle was able to lean into the grief while navigating this pregnancy and birthed her baby in the comfort of her own closet.

These are such beautiful stories that Danielle shares with us about her experiences of birthing in her power.

Today, I’m speaking with Claire. She talks about the struggles she faced with breastfeeding after her first baby and even going in to seek medical care, which resulted in a D+C after a lengthy time in hospital. 

With her second baby, Claire speaks of her choice to take this mothering journey solo. After a few attempts of using donor sperm from a man found via Facebook, Claire wasn’t getting pregnant. A dear friend of hers offered to assist her and on the first insemination attempt her daughter was conceived. 

Claire also speaks to the experience of seeking assistance in the hospital nearing 39 weeks with this second babe and getting admitted for an induction. Claire then checks herself out of the hospital after signing an AMA (against medical authority) and then birthed her baby 1 week later in her freedom at home.

Claire has 2 very incredible stories to share with us today about her decisions to birth both of her children free, while still engaging in the medical system at the times she felt necessary, but not allowing them to leave her powerless.
