  • 5138 MAKE BABIES DAMMIT!
Wednesday Night Live 23 Mar 2023

Hey Stef, you’ve mentioned having mourning rituals for death or breakups/divorces. Just wondering if you had a few you can throw at me?

Throughout childhood starvation was used as a punishment against me. I'm currently struggling to loose weight, any advice?

Question for stream: (following up on yesterday's stream around "lay count" question)

    ___

    Bf - 28y - had 21 partners
    Gf - 26y - had 16 partners

What do discuss before getting engaged?
    What arrangements/resolutions to make?
Is there such a thing as discussing past relationships too much ?

(Been going out for over 1y)

We knew from very early on that:
    -Values match
    -Life vision matches
    -Both want to have family

How does that align with your comment from yesterday that

What’s up Stef? You see Crystal Palace signed Roy Hodgson as their new manager?

Every time I log on to Stefan I learn something new

Question: Are there some additional techniques to get toxic parents out of your head besides little or no contact and surrounding yourself w great people and staying busy?

Bitcoin to 1 million dollars in 90 days?

I’ve been working all my life and am at retirement age and know not sure if I want to retire now that the time is near

Any suggestions to deal with loneliness, especially when you know a lot of people but that sense of connection is always wanting. I live alone, I can be talkative and people enjoy my company for the initial meeting but I have issues moving forward from that. (Pt 1)
I feel people never reach out to me, I have to initiate. I know I’m not owed anything I get what I give but it’s very tough. Especially on my days off I try to fulfill my social needs by going out, to the store; it gets expensive. I lack healthy friends my age (Pt2)

    Hi Stef,
In a last few months I have doubts about having children. Whenever I think about it I see it as solution, like I will be whole when I have them. I sense that is not right. What are right reasons to have children in your opinion? And how do I measure or know that I done enough self-work to have children and have emotional full cup for them?
Thank you for the work you do, feel bit bad about not tipping you, I am not in financial position to do more then sub

Stef you mentioned that in the 80 or 90 that you couldn't get a job so you started your company. Why do you think you couldn't get a job?

Just rejoined the stream the second you took your shirt off. Not what I expected but a welcome surprise lol.

  • 5131 WHY BOTHER BEING GOOD?
Hi Stef, is the ego strength that allows you to be wrong and change your mind the same thing as humility?

(correct me if I'm wrong ) In one live stream, you mentioned that if you spend the first 5 years with your child, they will stay with you for the rest of your life. What do you mean by this? Why is it so important for your child to be at home rather than in daycare? Thank you for your response."

Here is a quote from Karl Marx, "Philosophers are have only interpreted the world in various ways, the point is to change it." What do you think Stef, should the main aim of philosophers be to change the world rather than simply analyse it.

In Romans in the Bible it say that sin is what leads to death and that only through Jesus has we been able to have eternal life despite being sinful. Is there any logic in this?

My gf says it is ok to tell someone you require people you engage with do X, BUT wrong to tell them if they don't do X you will not engage with them. Thoughts? To me wording one way or another makes no difference

Hi from Finland 🖐️had to listen to Romans speech couple of times it was so awesome

What are your thoughts of the film Indecent Proposal where a man offers a couple 1 million dollars in order to spend a night with the woman. It seems to me like somethings in life are only as valuable as you're willing to sacrifice for them. The moment a couple accepts an offer like that, they are admitting that there is no sacred element to their relationship and its only foundation is material gain. Is this true?

Hey Stef. Thank you for your answer on your last live regarding setting standards with abusive parents. My wife struggled with why she shouldn't just cut them out until I figured out that setting standards is the best self defence and anger is at their level. Am I on the right track?

What do you think the solution is for people to not accept indecent proposals? Is this quote from Paul Woodruff correct? "If individuals turn to philosophy, their lives are changed; they set wisdom and virtue as their goals in place of power, wealth or reputation..." This quote assumes that all philosophy is enlightening rather than nihilistic or destructive. Perhaps a better way to phrase it is to seek wisdom.

Philosophy is derived from the word philosofia which is the love of wisdom. What does wisdom mean if it is a core part of philosophy?

Is wisdom not the set of things we can do to reduce our suffering?

What about mental suffering? This is uniquely human

Did you enjoy reading the Holy Bible at the time?

Can philosophy fix a sexual fetish?

  • 5130 Are We Doomed?
In the event of a global financial crisis, Is the United States in a better position to recover since it retains more economic instruments? How does this compare with a country like Russia that has national debt under 15% and domestic energy production, or Japan that has an aged population with national debt over 200%?

Hey Stef I’d like to hear what you think on the harm porn does to people and relationships, especially those who are exposed to it from a really young age?

Me and my wife are currently holding our parents accountable for the trauma they caused us in our childhood. My Dad has outright ignored me reaching out, my mum did engage but won't accept. My wifes mum won't admit violence but her Dad is admitting he was violent but wants to brush it away. Do you have any advice on how to deal with this situation. Thank you for everything

Stef, any advice on dealing with meaninglessness as a struggling student. Thank you so much for sharing knowledge and reason all these years.

Today is International Women's Day. It gives me the creeps and makes me angry, and not just because all the stores and businesses are closed here in Berlin. I resent the observance because I feel like it is a case of a privileged class playing the victim. Is the something else about International Women's Day that is at all redeeming?

Stef you’ve interviewed people from across the spectrum. From Chomsky to Vox Day. Over the years do any interviewees stick out to you as far as being able to challenge your views?

Stef to become an engineer, or doctor etc, how do you think the education path to become an engineer/doctor should be?

Why is libertarianism and autism linked ?
I saw in Jonathan haidt's work that libertarians have high ability in systematizing, could this be why?

  • 5129 How to Strengthen Your Ego!
I noticed that some christian friends like you, Stefan, because listening to you they can get rational explanations for things that they used to support with faith-based arguments like "God said so". They become even more proud because they think "God is logos, my beliefs are rational" but I can't help seeing them as more "atheistic", because there's no more "god" in many of their stands, there's only logic. They like you because they can have the cake and eat it too?

I always recommend people I try talking to about libertarianism listen to Milton Friedman's free to choose TV program that's free to watch on YouTube. It's great for opening people's minds to the ideas.

What are you thoughts on geographical determinism, the idea that Europeans were destined to become more advanced than people from other places because of their environment?

What do you think could be behind falling IQ over the last few decades?

Hi Stef, is natural law not the basis of human rights (at least the negative rights)? Since they are so widely accepted in the western world, why is it so hard to argue for natural law vs. utilitarianism? Many people I argue with defend the greater good for the most people as the moral standard and discard natural law due to this.

Hi, Stef! I think I should talk to you because you always say call me before and I am developing a relationship which involves everything what not supposed to be in it including other beings and talking to god. How did I get into this after eight years of listening to Freedomain?😉

Hey Stef, we took a course and sleep trained our baby.
In two weeks of sleep training he went from terrible sleep to sleeping 11 hours every night and we usually don’t need to pop in and check on him at all.
    You were right.

In a true free market, would you expect IQ to rise over time?

For your info, you have a total of about 221 days worth of content, which is crazy awesome lol

I have a family member that I love, but she has been heading in the wrong direction her whole adult life. Now that she is in her late twenties, I feel an urgency to save her. Like it’s now or never. She has never taken any of my advice or help in the past, and just keeps making bad choices (Botox, focusing too much on work, sleeping around, casual dating etc). I want her to wake up to reality before it’s too late. Can I save her?

if art is the collection and monetisation of trauma, how do you explain why the most trauma ridden slum countries like the “former” Soviet Union and other Communist countries (which are leftist utopias) are devoid of objective beauty and art?

Do you have any advice for helping a partner who has had a traumatic childhood and doesn't want to talk about it because the memories are too painful?

My Physical Therapist makes conversation during my sessions, she tells me about her children. One of them is 3 years old now and went into daycare at 4 months old. Ironically, I am in PT for an injury from giving birth to my now 4 month old and I feel ill when I imagine a baby so young in daycare.
I constantly wonder if she'd say her career is worth it. At the same time I know she'd be extremely offended. I wonder if there is a "time" to say it, or if I should at all.

Hey Stef. My 10yr old daughter desperately wants to go to school. She's never been.. I think she's feeling pressure from other kids in the neighborhood and in extracurricular. Have you ever gone through something similar with Izzi? My other children have never expressed interest in going to school. We're thinking we need to amp up the field trips or the FUN in our homeschool. She has a fantasy that she's going to see all her friends at recess or lunch or in the hallway...

Hi Stef, what are your thoughts on authors who create characters that the audience bonds with, only to kill them off or destroy their characters unexpectedly rather than gradually. Is this a sign of dysfunction or a normal option that authors should be able to explore?

Have you watched squid games Stef? It would be great if you did an analysis of shows that go viral in the cultural sphere

Does the choice of self-medication indicate a specific kind of trauma or unfullfilled need? Or anything goes in this regard?

Some spiritual gurus advocate for the development of ego strength through being able to distance oneself from the ego. What do you think

I think my fatal flaw might be self doubt/sabotage, how can I shake this off? I grew up with a real nasty verbally abusive older brother, do you think it could help to defoo the guy?

What do you think about the concept of 'enlightenment' and how this is both spiritual / non material but also material in the epistemological process of systematically investigating the outside world to enlightening oneself. Is enlightenment both material and non-material in itself focus?

Do you have an advice for dealing with anxiety? I've been taking major leaps to better myself, I'll be able to push through most of the anxieties but some times the anxiety gets so bad it's like my mind shuts down. I will eventually push through that too though.

Would you be interested in explaining the psychology of trolls? This is a very fascinating topic, especially with the recent troll flare-up in Freedomain chat.

How do you define success in your life?

I liked the little detail in The Present of Ian closing the car door that Cassie opened, very realistic. Women have trouble remembering to close doors.

Have you heard of the hagelian dialect and how people use conflict to create change. This was mentioned in a podcast I was listening to but don't know much about it. Do you think we're being turned against each other so that society can be reformed in the image of the ultra powerful?
