Sometimes an old man will tuck $6 into your shirt pocket so you'll listen to his good joke. Or a pre-gig massage to prepare you backfires…like the team chapel you were invited to speak at. But often times it's in the simplest of routines where we say something unplanned (and regrettable) in order to feel like we fit in. David offered such detail today — it provoked an awkward reaction similar to what the baseball coaches seemed to feel when they heard it yesterday.

A bit too common these days, David hunted for cover from Dr Dave around a shady judgement call he recently made. You know… we do something that makes us conscience-queasy so we seek to be reassured by close friends. When Dr Dave instead challenged David about his lying, an inventive concept was thrown into the mix: PRE-TRUTH. While listeners weigh whether this novel defense is legit, Dr Dave is reeling from learning he's not yet close enough to be included among his funny friend's tolerance for company.

We seldom, if ever, beg for immediate feedback. It's not our vibe here in the Fresh Catch 2.0 Chill Zone. But David is about to jump on a plane and head to Texas to do a men's comedy event and when he described the outfit he was planning to wear, Dr Dave—without benefit of any Psychology Today app—quickly tossed up a caution flag. It's unknown at this moment of publication whether David will take his advice. Too many outdoor showers have dulled his brain.

David got bumped aside during his recent Kroger shopping experience by the cute little robot doing price checks. Apparently it was annoyed by the need to nudge David away from carefully considering which Oreos to buy. At least that's how the squeaky sounds it emitted sounded to the nearby employee who lobbed sideways shaming at David. As we decried the Machine Kingdom we now inhabit as guests, the Thunder Dome mower of Dr Dave's neighbor growled in triumph. Tech might cut in line but we know funny.

So much to celebrate in this episode! This remote hook-up at one of our favorite restaurants as a live podcast—simultaneously being shown on Instagram—was a blast. But what was truly epic was to hear how the manager-owner of Los Amigos has indulged David's mis-naming him for YEARS because he is too kind to offend him. If you like the zig-zag pacing of improv conversation, this episode is for you. In an act of brave vulnerability David disclosed his pain from being kicked out of Sunday school while paying a great deal of respect to the teacher who did it. Being the gigglers we are, we found it hard to ignore how well the SS teacher's name fit. And as the boys who caught a glimpse of shirtless David mowing can testify (if called upon), we know a lot about things that don't fit.

If you listen a bit to our podcasts, it comes as no surprise to hear us confess how biased we are about most things. It's actually quite amazing that either of us have been married for a long time, given how clueless we are with our patient and loving spouses. Our journey into self-justification and undeserved righteousness was on display in this episode that begins with David recalling a 14-year old walk of shame. Enjoy … but be careful in what you copy.

In only three days Father's Day will arrive, ready or not. If therapists listened to this episode they might detect our insecurity. We are, after all, two aging dads. Both of us are grandpas. And we seemed to meander our way toward comforting one another by lowering expectations for what we'll experience on Sunday. It helped that we could make fun of Pappy when he dialed in during our recording.
