While this letter is written to a Jewish Christian audience, they are not the only ones who have a claim to being “offspring of Abraham.” According to passages such as Matthew 3:9 and Galatians 3:29, all who place faith in Christ are part of God’s chosen family.
Main Text: Hebrews 2:10-18 (ESV)
The crucial reason Jesus can give us confidence is through His example. He isn’t merely a detached spirit giving us orders. Jesus took on the sufferings that people experience, thus making His sacrifice and victory applicable to our lives.
Main Text: Hebrews 2:10-18 (ESV)
This passage of Hebrews explains that Jesus was truly and fully human and refutes the idea that this would be shameful for God. The way Jesus suffered makes Him an entirely perfect substitute for humanity, allowing Him to comfort us with legitimate compassion (Hebrews 4:15) as One Who has experienced all of life’s struggles. The same struggles, hardships, and temptations that we face daily (Hebrews 2:18). Jesus can identify with our humanity in every way, except He never sinned.

The phrase “founder of their salvation” in the Greek carries the idea of being a leader, a pioneer, or an example. Some translations use the English term “captain.”
Main Text: Hebrews 2:10-18 (ESV)
The new thing God did on earth was to give His One and Only Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:2). The result of God’s new thing is the salvation of the believer, but that salvation includes but not limited to: never needing to fear the storms of life because Jesus is the first and last; never needing to fear in life, because Jesus lives forevermore; and never needing to fear death because Jesus holds ownership of the keys to death and the grave.
Key points
1. God’s Sacrifice: God gave His Son as the sacrifice for humanity’s sins.
2. Salvation’s Impact: Believers receive salvation through this act.
3. Fearlessness in Life: Salvation includes freedom from fear during life’s challenges.
4. Eternal Assurance: Jesus is eternal, holding the keys to death and the grave.

Revelation 1:9-18 (ESV)
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the author of Hebrews states that for a season, Jesus—was made “lower” than other spiritual beings, in the sense that He abandoned His heavenly glory and put on flesh. Jesus’ incarnation served the purpose: He obtained a more significant victory.
Main Text: Hebrews 2:1-9 (ESV)
Verse 8 states that God left nothing outside His control and put everything in subjection to Jesus. Everything in the sincere believer’s life is under Jesus’ feet. Every problem you face, every fear, even the joys and excitements of life, when we genuinely live submitted lives to Christ Jesus, everything is under His control.
Main Text: Hebrews 2:1-9 (ESV)
Some first-century Jewish groups believed angels would rule at the end of days. Hebrews declares that the One given authority is not an angel.

Thus, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? Indeed, the believer is without excuse.
Main Text: Hebrews 2:1-9 (ESV)
One of my professors used to say that when you witness the word “therefore,” you must stop and see why it’s ‘there for.’ the author goes on to say: “Therefore, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.” Since there are false teachers and false gospels, Christians need to know the actual content of their faith so that counterfeit versions will not seduce them.
