Greetings, Earthlings! Why not have a battle of the Pumpkin Ales? Last episode, we sipped on “Pumpkin Ale” by Upslope Brewing Company and this week, we meet its challenger, “Count Orlok Black Pumpkin Ale” by Urban Chestnut Brewing.

Count Orlok is a 5.4% Pumpkin Ale that is far from a Pumpkin Pie. Instead, it can be described as a spiced chai tea with loads of espresso. Trying to avoid the typically sweet taste of pumpkin ales, Orlok utilizes the taste of coffee, real pumpkin, and warming spices. Regarding aroma: the brew smells of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and hints of charred marshmallow.

Howdy males, females and all you turtles out there (Yeah, I’m talking to you.) This week on Friends Drink Beer, we try Blue Dot by Hair Of The Dog Beer Company. This is a 7% Double IPA that may be the smoothest and most flavorful Double we’ve ever tried. Oh, and I should also mention that it is our first 100 point rating.

To delve more into the beer, Blue Dot has a peppery spice blend with a hint of lemon, honey, and tropical notes. On the back end, you may notice a pilsner-like malt finish paired with a bitter, hoppy finish, but what’s great is that the hops do not overpower the taste like some Double IPAs tend to.

This week on FDB, Ryan and Alex discuss living in a house with Charles Manson, moving into a nudist colony (without Charles, hopefully), and give advice on how to handle a situation where you accidentally text your boss an inappropriate text meant for your partner.

This 5.5% Scottish Pilsner brewed out of North Carolina has a hoppy flavor, (which is odd for a Pils, but soops DELISH.) You can also expect to taste tangerine, grapefruit, and a bit of pepper. It has a dry finish, but still holds true to the crispness of a pilsner.

Hello Moon Gazers! In honor of the Eclipse this week, we decided to try “Space Ghost”, which is a collaboration of two very cosmic brewing companies, Ecliptic and Melvin Brewing.

The two astronauts from different spaceships cheersing on the bottle is representative of the collaboration between Ecliptic and Melvin. This ‘out of this world’ beer has an orange pour and a notable mango, cantaloupe aroma. Flavor notes include tangerine and papaya juice, followed by a hint of lemongrass and lime. This brew is officially considered a Barleywine, but we are placing it in the Double IPA realm because of its very distinct hoppy finish.

In this episode, we dive into what it would be like to discover a new COLOR, Ryan’s weird dream about an ATM machine in a different dimension, and advice on how to get your boyfriend’s “best friend” to stop coming over when the boyfriend isn’t home.
