"I always say that, alcohol and drugs and all that stuff, why put that shit in my body? It's like assault, cause shit starts disappearing fast, family homes, cars, jobs, everything disappears when I put that shit in my body. So I'm just going to not put it in my body anymore!"

She didn't come out about what her dad had done to her or any of that until this past year, because she says you have to have this image. And she thinks that sharing your story is something that people undervalue. They only see the surface level impact, but the depth of how much it means to everyone around you when you share your story, she thinks is an undervalued thing, especially as a youth, because in high school you're like, oh, is everyone in the school going to find out? Or people are going to talk about you and people are going to view you differently. None of that really matters when you see the value and the impact it makes when you share your story.

Mainly Nico wasn't too much of a big drinker until his twenties. But when he was in his early teens, any type of drug he could get his hands on, he was about it because in his head, the way that I have processed it, he doesn't feel like everybody else. He does not think that he can relate to anybody else because of what he has been through. And this is a common ground. So using drugs, smoking weed, snort some pills popping pills, cocaine, all that stuff. When he was ingesting these things, whatever they were adjusting them to in his head that created a level playing field okay, we're using the same things. So they're probably feeling the same thing.

So we have Juliana Campbell on the show today! Her Instagram is @daily.juliana and originally she had started her page back in April. She was going through an eating disorder and thought it would just hold her accountable. She didn't think it was going to get attraction at all. It was mostly for her and her close friends. But then eventually she was like, you know what? She's not scared to talk about it, whatever, just let's be public about it. And then she started getting some attention on it and it felt really nice to see that people supported it and people want to see that kind of stuff because she never saw it on Instagram. So she was like, if I'm not seeing it, I want to make me the person that can do it so she can see herself and then maybe others will feel inspired enough to share.
Go give her a follow on Instagram and see her journey grow with every inspiring post she makes @daily.juliana

Mike still had that need for that acceptance because he'd never even met his real father. So he brought in that old wound from a young age that I wasn't loved, I wasn't good enough. So he always fuelled that with trying to use drugs and stuff to feel better. With him selling drugs, he always had people coming to him trying to be popular and stuff that he thought was important to hang out with them. The cool high school kids who he thought were his friends, but really a lot of those people weren't my friends. And when the tough times came, it seemed like everybody disappeared. So yeah, I came from a good home. My parents did the best they had, we moved around a lot.

In 2012 her best friend ended her life. Before her death, her family and friends were at a loss of what to do. There was and still is such a stigma about mental illness. She did the best they could at trying to protect her but their hands were really tied. Fast forward to fall of 2015, Michelle was sitting in the Walmart parking lot thinking about her best friend and her love for elephants that not many knew about. She had an elephant in her room that was broken a few days before her death. This spoke to her that day.
Everyone knows that mental illness is real and suicide is a heartbreaking way out but no one seems to be comfortable enough to talk about it or know how to - there remains an awful stigma attached. People are afraid to seek help for fear of being labeled "crazy" or not taken seriously until it is to late. Michelle drew the elephant that night with intentions of it becoming a decal so people would see it and know they are not alone and that it is okay to talk about it and seek help. She needed and wanted a 10 year old to be able to understand the concept!
Why a 10 year old?
Because that is the youngest age in statistics of suicide in the United States.
