Every conversation reminds me that producing the Faultlines audiobooks has given me far more than voices for characters I’ve carried for years; it has brought an incredible group of humans into my life, and I am so, so lucky to know them. Part of me still cannot believe these are the people bringing my characters to life.
This time, I’m sitting down with the fantabulistical Sherrice Williams, the voice of Dr. Julia Weston. Sherrice shares how she went from working exhausting hours as a dialysis nurse and searching for a way to spend more time with her children to building a voice career wherever she could find a quiet corner—closets, Airbnbs, an RV, and even her car.
We talk about being biracial, navigating black and white spaces, code-switching, neurodivergent masking, motherhood, medicine, imposter syndrome, and learning to know your worth in an industry that often expects artists to work for basically nothing. We also dig into why Sherrice understood Julia so instinctively, how professional polish can become a survival strategy, and what it means to portray a character as a whole person instead of flattening her into “the smart mom” or “the doctor.”
Naturally, my ADHD takes us on a few scenic routes through casting, character development, audiobook pay, AI as an organizing tool, shady clients, courthouse weddings, Chili’s, Texas Roadhouse, and the fact that apparently neither of us can accept a compliment without immediately short-circuiting. You know, it is a completely normal and tightly structured interview.
