  • From the Middle - Free Containers, Friendly Cards, and Fraudulent Calamari
#235. We’ve got mail and our tails are wagging! Do you enjoy receiving Christmas cards? Do you send them? Are they antiquated and barely hanging on or is the tradition still holding steady? Let us know via the LinkTree below along with any other thoughts that come about with this episode. Kory received a kind thanks from a beloved comedian, then we talk about one of our known pet peeves: fur babies. Also, do you hoard take-out containers or have you not admitted that to yourself yet? You may need all those containers to stash Christmas leftovers as we head into the holiday week. After the break, we discuss what a cow rectum and squid have in common. Hint: cocktail sauce. And if you could yank one Christmas movie from the annual rotation, which would it be? All three of us share what may be an unpopular opinion. Finally, we’re streaming Fargo, Mob Land, Old Boy, and Parasite. Chime in and until next time, be kind to each other. Merry Christmas!

  • From the Middle - Cold Chews, The Columbus Crew, and Correale’s Comedy
#234. And unto Kory was given three meats wrapped in swaddling tortillas, and he did live mas. What would you do if food was delivered mistakenly to your house overnight? Find out our answer at the top of this one! We also celebrate the Columbus Crew and their MLS Cup victory! Will Ferrel likely left town disappointed, but we were glad to have him for however long he was here. We also discuss our kid’s sports and some fun experiences we’ve had recently with them. On the back half, Kory and Dillon detail their meet-up with comedian and podcaster Pete Correale and then we catch up on some streaming. This week that includes WWE, Wrestlers, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man and the Pool, Arnold Schwarzenegger: Athlete, Actor, American, Activist, and Squid Game: The Challenge. There’s plenty here to respond to and we would love to hear it! Follow the LinkTree below for that. Until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - The Encouragement Assist Leader, Chris Massie
#233. Chris Massie is a positive, loving, kind soul with a passion for encouraging others. He has recently seen this passion flow into a book, “The Clarity Question: What does this season require of you?” He also has a lifelong experience of seeing his gifts make positive impacts on those around him. We take a ride into is childhood as he points out some events which molded him into what he is today. We also look at a recent health scare which is already serving him and those who listen to his story. For a man with formal ministerial education who is not vocationally in the practice, he has a personal ministry which matters so much to so many. Those of us (all of us) who sometimes struggle with looking for answers for how to live out what we’ve been given, while we may not find answers, can still find clarity and peace through Chris’s testimony. Enjoy, and until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Trying International Stuff, Stuffing Day Recap, and Getting Stuffed Thrice
#232. We hope everyone is kicking off their holiday season in style and wonderful food. We are spending some time trying some important food from across the pond and the suppleness of the cookies is top notch. Also, is Tim Horton’s importing their cream cheese? It’s probably the most expensive smear one can order in a drive-thru. Time with your boy on a cold hunting trip as the weather slowly gets the best of both of you, however, is priceless. Nerd dice are about ten bucks. Also, America’s Team chalked up a hard-fought win over the weekend and we do some pre-lamenting over how that game will feel in the coming years as the landscape of the NCAA football playoff changes. Dillon had pie for days, Kendall decorated for Christmas, Kory had three Thanksgivings, and we are all on board with LESS STUFF under the tree this year. Share your thoughts, hopes, and dreams with us via the LinkTree below! Until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Facebook Caring, Duck Water Repairing, and State Pie Pairings
#231. Rip your hearts out of your chests and give ‘em a good hug, cause it’s time for the most caring podcast from the midwest! We are a simple people who like our water the way we like our milkshakes and appreciate a little smile with our customer service. We like calm, quiet streets where one can mosey about in a golf cart to see the neighbors. And according to this here article, we love…butterscotch pie? What in the name heck is butterscotch pie? And why is everyone yelling about F1 racing in Las Vegas? Anyway, we talk about all of that plus some streaming. This week we’re watching Matt Rife, Loki 2, Welcome to Wrexham, Violent Night, Gran Turismo, Hereditary, Midsummer, and All the Light We Cannot See. There’s a lot of room for your thoughts in this one! Use the LinkTree below for that. Until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Pizza, Archery, and Land Management with Brent Gargasz
#230. Brent Gargasz is a regular guy from Pennsylvania who made his way to central Ohio and filled a gap because he missed something he loved. The best part is the cost of doing so was leaving something he hated. He is a grinder, an outdoorsman, and a Pizza Nerd. Listeners and folks from Newark know what we’re talking about. Pizza Nerds is a nostalgic project that combines the pizza of Brents youth with the pop culture of the same. Do you like pizza? You need to try theirs. Do you like Rugrats, Saved By the Bell and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? You’ll have fun while doing it. Brent shares his story and the perhaps naive confidence which led him to being a successful entrepreneur. We also play a fun game listing foods from TV and movies and we wax poetic with the natural experience of hunting and fishing; a solid discussion with a solid dude. Thank you, Brent! Follow the LinkTree below to keep the discussion going and, until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Dillon Swims, Kendall Wicks, and Kory Beams
#229. The Queen City hosted Dillon and his wife and provided them with some amazing music and regional pizza. Two of the three things were stellar experiences. At least the hotel was weird. While we’re on food and drink, have you sampled the new Starbucks seasonal line-up? We’d love to hear your feedback. Hit up the LinkTree below to tell us how you like your coffee. After managing to hit only two main topics in a half-hour (incredible, right?) Kory starts the back half sharing a mind-boggling milestone with his eldest and a couple of exciting sports updates for his other kiddos! Congrats to the Hubbell kids! He also found a wonderful yet secret camping spot and finds out what’s worse than grocery bags in the rain. Kendall moans about the NCAA for a minute then we move along to streaming. This week it’s John Wick, Bill Burr’s Old Dads, Wind River, Welcome to Wrexham, Loki, and LEGO Masters. Enjoy! Until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Football, Festivities, and Friends
#228. We hope your Halloween week has been nice and spooky like someone is watching you from the other side of the field in a coaching costume. Also it’s a transitional time of year. A nice cold sparkling water goes down as easy as that first warm mug of hot chocolate and Halloween gives way to the holiday season, for some even simultaneously with Christmas decorating! That’s the first half of this episode! In the back half we pay a small tribute to Matthew Perry with a look at some favorite quotes and moments from the man who created the way an entire generation does sarcasm. Join us, share, and let us know your favorite Matthew Perry moments. The LinkTree below will show you where to do that. Until next time, be kind to each other.

  • From the Middle - Bad Pi’s?, Kids in Disguise, and Stolen Signs
#227. We’re back with a fresh slate of socially relevent topics to poke at! We just don’t know what all of the topics are supposed to be. But we do know that Dillon likes lots of meat in his burrito a la “you had me at meat tornado.” We ponder an article which accuses Columbus of being one of the worst pizza cities in the country. Where do we stand? We also talk Halloween costumes and learn what some of the hot 2023 disguises are. After the break, Kendall cries about the big bad NCAA wolves trying to blow down the Big House. Brandon Lake is good at Singing. Mark Pi’s is scary. TikTok just got better. Feel free to chime in on any of these things via the LinkTree below! Until next time, be kind to each other.
