  • Negotiating a Sports Job Offer
We learn early on that Rob got bamboozled by a Christmas tree salesman.... or so he thinks. Also, if all else fails in the sports industry, he can chase his dream as the Sham WOW and Flex Seal infomercial host. The guys announce they will be hosting live 1 on 1's for networking on December 21st as a thank you to our listeners and courtesy of SDSU Sports MBA. Plus, it was a historic day in MiLB as the 120 teams received their invitation to remain an affiliate for the MLB franchises. Rob and Chris discuss the seismic shift that will occur within the Minor League world pertaining to not only the business operations but also the player operations for these teams. Also, what is next for the folks who unfortunately were left without an affiliation and how they should start planning their next move now. On the positive side, Rob is bullish on upcoming job opportunities and poses a question to Chris to discuss the right and wrong way to approach a job offer. Chris has a moment in his past triggered by the question and plays out a real life scenario of an employee mismanaging the situation for all young folks to avoid. Chris is celebrating 1 year later today that he still has a hand after sticking it in the snowblower!

  • Adding Sports MBA to your Resume
Our good friend and longtime listener, Scott Minto, Director of San Diego State University's Sports MBA Program, joins us to discuss the benefits of furthering your education in the greatest city in America. Knowing a lot of people are currently facing a challenging job market, we thought a discussion around alternative avenues would be topical for our listeners. Scott provided a peek behind the curtain on how he prepares his students for the sports world by instilling a diverse perspective and skillset. SDSU takes a different approach vs your typical Master's program allowing you the flexibility to pursue a variety of roles upon graduation. One of the aspects of the program that had Chris and Rob impressed was their emphasis on data analytics and reinforcement of how important this skill set is for the current day sports job seeker. Enrollment is currently open for SDSU's next class in 2021 and Scott literally gives you the answers to ace the interview. Fish tacos not included!

  • Let's Talk Turkey - The Thanksgiving Episode
Chris and Rob continue their streak of being the worst at teasing upcoming episodes as they decide to put the brakes on "How to Quit to Your Job" until next week and focus on the positive for Thanksgiving. It was a big day in the Crain household as he washed his son Nolan of his Original Sin. For all you Gentiles all out there, you know what we are talking about. Chris and Rob share some positive ancillary benefits that have come about in COVID such as more family time with their kids, Rob's Ballpark building prowess, and the fact they are both still employed. Rob issues a challenge for everyone to reach out to 5 people over Thanksgiving that they do not know and try and secure a conversation with those people to introduce themselves. This is a GREAT way to build your network and get your sports career started. We can't thank you all enough for listening and wish you a safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  • When Your Sports Job Defines You
Rob and Chris are back at it this week and continue their trend of having dialogue around issues we all face. A lot of people would agree that their job has a huge impact on defining who they are as a person. Rob and Chris share how sometimes their work and issues they have faced in their career have crossed into their daily lives due to "not having that off button." It goes without saying, we all need to find a better way to sometimes separate ourselves from our careers. We get a great email inquiring about what it is like to jump from one sport to another and also what challenges people face when changing departments. Chris and Rob dissect and offer their opinion on this year's Masters ratings and what may be causing the overall decline for all sports. Plus we deviate from our normal routine and talk some real sports talk around the NBA draft and the new look Nets.

  • Eric Kussin - CEO, We're All A Little "Crazy"
This may have been one of our most important interviews we have done yet as Chris sits down with Eric Kussin, CEO of We're All A Little "Crazy", the SameHere Global Mental Health movement to discuss his journey that is a story you have to hear to believe. Eric quickly ascended through the ranks of the sports industry with stops at the NBA League Office, the New Jersey Devils, and eventually the CRO of the Florida Panthers. Eric's life changed when his mental health took a sudden and  rapid decline the day of a Panthers home game. While essentially being mentally paralyzed Eric needed to step away from his role with the Panthers to regain control of his mind and body. Eric faced 2 1/2 years of extensive medical treatment from countless number of drugs to electroshock therapy. It wasn't until he tried alternative treatments that he was finally able to get his life back on track and start this foundation . Given the challenges we all currently face in our industry from unknown futures, lost revenue, and layoffs this is an important topic that affects all of us.
