So today we are bringing our fairy boss mother and our entrepreneurial guide Tonnia Matthews to the pod to discuss the do’s and don’ts of entrepreneurship.
Tonnia Matthews is the founder and managing director of Tonnia Theory, a boutique business consulting firm that provides strategic business development, and operations solutions to women of color entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Tonnia spent her formative years pursuing business studies and built up her professional resume in strict regulatory financial environments, while simultaneously honing her entrepreneurial skills via various business and passion ventures. Tonnia eventually transitioned to a full-time entrepreneur after garnering over a decade of corporate experience.
With her share of challenges and setbacks as an entrepreneur, Tonnia understands the value in not only promoting ownership but also demystifying the complexities of operating and sustaining micro to small businesses.
She enjoys meeting and connecting with people who are driven, offers unique perspectives and remains curious about life. She’s a recent transplant to the DMV area and serves clients globally. What is radical self-care? Radical self-care is the active decision to put your wellness before anyone or anything else. As we have discussed in past episodes, many of us Full-Time Black Women have difficulty practicing radical self-care in this manner. The demands of work-home balance, the constant pressure of the pandemic, our families, our loved ones, our employees are stressful, oppressive, and debilitating. It is in these moments that we must safeguard our peace by remaining calm and practicing radical self-care in order to sustain ourselves to continue the work ahead.
Our guest today believes black women have been sold a bill of goods about working hard and putting everyone else first. Natasha aka the Love CEO has been teaching other women how to love themselves unapologetically and use Love as a strategy to increase their bottom line, build relationships, and design the lives they want.
Today we are going to discuss how you can use radical self-care to construct the life you deserve.
Natasha is a speaker, actress, and love coach who guides women into living their best lives. "I believe women are the gatekeepers to love. We have more power than society has led us to believe and when we tap into that love power we can create the lives and relationships our hearts desire. Self-Care has been moving up in priority since the beginning of 2020. Sometimes you will see it depicted as luxurious spa visits, shopping sprees, or lavish vacations. Practices that appeared slightly materialistic to get you to buy the latest expensive thing And to some, it was a practice reserved only for the white and wealthy. To reach a wider audience, media began to focus on the simple things you could do from home: bubble baths, painting your nails, and facial masks. And while all of these things from lavish to basic can have an impact on your mood and well-being, there’s a deeper level of self-care that exists.
Self-Care is an intentional act done for the purpose of supporting and promoting one’s physical, mental, or emotional health and well-being. It can take many forms, but overall self-care is necessary in order for us to manage stress, protect our energy and live our best lives as our best selves. So today we want to go deeper than the superficial versions of self-care and offer some additional options that can have a longer effect and stronger impact on your well-being.
And before we go on, we want to be clear…we’re not saying the other things aren’t self-care. We just want to start a discussion about the less glamorous, often less appealing self-care that no one typically wants to do, but everyone needs.

One thing all Full-Time Black Women have in common is our struggle to set healthy boundaries both personally and professionally. We are some of the most supportive, nurturing, and giving individuals. With our caring and ongoing invested nature, we experience being taken advantage of by all those who surround us daily. We have to teach ourselves how to set healthy boundaries in order to have healthy lives. What are boundaries? Personal boundaries are the limits and rules we set for ourselves within relationships. A person with healthy boundaries can say “no” to others when they want to, but they are also comfortable opening themselves up to intimacy and close relationships. Drawing boundaries is the process of finding your courage. Holding boundaries is the process of keeping your courage.
Boundaries help us build and maintain relationships that are important for encouraging us to unlearn harmful patterns of thinking and mythologies around unhealthy power dynamics.
Today we will share how you too can learn how to set boundaries.

The pandemic has ignited change in a lot of us. As we transition to work from home or begin living a healthier lifestyle, many of us have decided to go natural! More and more women are getting big chops, starter locs etc and really getting to know their crowns. However, there’s a lot of misinformation out there on how to care for your hair. Today we’re joined by Dr. Isfahan Chambers-Harris to set the record straight on the science of hair care and share her story on the creation of Alodia Hair Care.
Dr. Isfahan Chambers-Harris earned her B.S. in Biology from the City University of New York and Ph.D. in Bio-Medical Sciences from Morehouse School of Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Institute in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Isfahan officially began her medical career as a postdoctoral fellow at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. After earning her Masters, she went on to become a Presidential STEM Fellow at the National Institutes of Health ((National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) in Bethesda Maryland.
As a black woman, mother, PhD Medical Scientist, and Trichology practitioner, Dr. Isfahan understands first-hand the misinformation that exists around textured hair and she is committed to educating women on holistic health approaches to healthy hair and scalp care. In 2017, Alodia Hair Care was launched. Today, Alodia is an internationally sold, award winning, clean scalp and hair care brand. Alodia has been featured in Essence, Elle, Vogue, BlackDoctor.org and Forbes magazine just to name a few. Dr. Isfahan Chambers-Harris resides in the DC metropolitan area with her husband, Dr. Rashad Dupree-Harris, MD and their beautiful 8-year-old twin boys and 2 year old baby boy.
