What a long strange trip it's been.
From the first time Steve Cohen bought the team, to this past week when he actually did, it has been a wild ride. It's over now, though. Cohen owns the Mets, and it already feels like things are changing.
I also talked about all the players that have unexpectedly had their 2021 options declined, and who might be targets for the Mets. Plus, the decision by the Tampa Bay Rays to remove Blake Snell from Game 6 of the World Series, and what that says about the state of baseball.

It is time to take our first look at the 2021 New York Mets. We'll be checking in on how the team is shaping up at various times throughout the offseason, but this is the first one.
We'll go through the major position groups, look out who could be in the everyday lineup, who may not have a place on this team, and what major free agents and trade targets could be in Queens next season.
We also take a look at this week in Mets history, and say goodbye to two more Baseball Hall of Famers.

Host Michael Smith was a little under the weather last week, but he's back and better than ever and ready to wrap up the Mets' 2020 season.
We'll talk about the abysmal performance against Tampa Bay and Washington, which led to the Mets finishing last in the NL East.
(You read that right.)
We'll also talk about the performances of the teams that finished in front of them and how they could've gotten in the playoffs.
Plus, we'll evaluate some of the more important players on this team, Luis Rojas as manager, and Brodie Van Wagenen's job as GM.
All that, as well as this day in Mets POSTSEASON (and not-making-postseason) history, and much more.
RIP Bob Gibson

Six games. Three with Philadelphia. Three with Atlanta.
5-1 was desired. 4-2 was necessary. The Mets got out - stumbled out - at 3-3.
There are 7 games left. They play the first-place Rays, then four with the last-place Nationals.
They're mathematically alive, but do they still have a realistic chance?
That discussion, plus, this week in Mets history.

The New York Mets had a rough week. It seems they're all pretty rough this year.
Host Michael Smith breaks down what went wrong for the Mets this week against the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, and Toronto Blue Jays, and how it hurts their season.
Plus, why they STILL have an opportunity to make the postseason.
Michael also takes a look at the upcoming week with probable pitchers, as well as a breakdown of how the schedule shakes out over the final 13 games, and what it's going to take for the Mets to have a chance at sneaking into the playoffs.

The greatest player in franchise history passed away this week. Tom Seaver, aptly nicknamed "The Franchise," left us at the age of 75, due to complications from Lewy body dementia and COVID-19.
NY Post columnist Mike Vaccaro joined me to discuss what made Seaver so special, and why he is revered so much by generations of Mets fans.
I also talk about the week on the field for the Mets, from their lackluster effort on Tuesday in Baltimore, to the emotional victory against the Yankees, to the Labor Day Weekend battle with the Phillies.

Mike Vaccaro on Tom Seaver:
Mets legend Tom Seaver was truest definition of a hero
This was perfect way for Mets to honor Tom Seaver
My all-time favorite Tom Seaver story
Host Michael Smith has returned with Fun Times in Flushing, following a week (and change) off.
He has a lot of thoughts on how the Mets have played the past two weeks, including:
Michael will talk about all that, plus Jacob deGrom and Peterson's injury, as well as the additions of Matthew Allan, Francisco Alvarez and Ronny Mauricio to the 60-Man Player Pool.
