If you ever travel to France and engage in any interaction with a native French speaker, you'll definitely need to ask them questions in French! In order to give you the confidence to do so, this episode will focus on the different possible translations to say "what...?" in French. We'll also reuse what you've learnt in episode 111 of French Your Way Podcast to play around with the different structures to ask questions in French ;-)

He doesn't know what he wants = Il ne sait pas ce qu'il veut.

Can you repeat what you just said? = Pouvez-vous répéter ce que vous venez de dire?

What do you prefer ? = Qu'est-ce que tu préfères? / Que préfères-tu ? / Tu préfères quoi ?

What are you going to do next weekend ? = Qu'est-ce que tu vas faire ce week-end? Que vas-tu faire ce week-end ? / Tu vas faire quoi ce weekend ?

Le prix = the price

Quel est le prix d'un kilo de tomates? = What's the price of a kilo of tomatoes?

La nationalité = the nationality, the citizenship

Quelle est votre nationalité? = What is your nationality?

La langue = the tongue, the language

Vous parlez quelle langue ? / Quelle langue est-ce que vous parlez ? Quelle langue parlez-vous?

Vous paieriez quel prix pour un kilo de tomates ? / Quel prix est-ce que vous paieriez pour un kilo de tomates? / Quel prix paieriez-vous pour un kilo de tomates? = What price would you pay for one kilo of tomatoes?

Tu as vu quels animaux au zoo? = What/Which animals did you see at the zoo?

Exercise:

Chose a word among those below and make up a question with it, including the question word "quel(le)(s)" or "qu’est-ce que".

Example: Age (nm) --> Vous avez quel âge ? / Quel âge est-ce que vous avez ? / Quel âge avez-vous?
