This is my interview with Coach Marty Wolner youth sports coach, referee, and Brain Strength/Peak Performance specialist. Coach Marty and I take a brief look at how sports can help improve the brain health of athletes who have experienced mental trauma. Everyone knows the importance of the mental aspect of playing sports at the youth level, but the benefits can go beyond, developing discipline, mental toughness, confidence, etc. The subject of mental health in athletics is not normally discussed in a way where sports are used to improve the mental health of athletes, but as you listen to this discussion and my own anecdotal evidence from my years as player and coach sports can be essential in helping youth athletes heal the brain after trauma.
