Tom Devlin drops by the Gateway to talk about Sandanista! by The Clash, the very first album that interested him in both music and the world around him,. He recounts how he discovered and fell in love with the album having no preconceptions about punk music or The Clash. Howard and Tom agree on the unique nature of the album as Tom makes the compelling claim that Sandanista! Is the first world beat album. The album is overstuffed with 36 songs on three albums and it is filled with varied song structures that reflect cultures from around the world. Along the way Tom tells us how his interest in music got him his start working in the comics industry.
