In this episode I talk about how our rights for inclusion, diversity, authenticity and  basic decency are under attack and we, as a community, have to be brave enough to stand up in our power and make a choice. I give some facts on the 180 day playbook that we have heard about that is hitting the news channels and social media. Maya Angelou is credited with saying, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time". We need to pay attention.

In this episode, I talk about our silence is not golden when our allies and our own community stand silent. We are at a crossroads of being erased or standing up and out (when safe) to support our community and our friends and family who are LGBTQIA+. We need everyone to be on the ground and in support of our right to be who we are and to support the message of equality and equity, not just from our hearts... also with boots on the ground and by the words we speak.

  • Meet Matthew Roach!

Matthew Roach (he/him/his) is from Hayesville, NC. Born and raised in the buckle of the Bible Belt, he was submerged in the culture of old fashioned, evangelical religion. All his life he knew he was not a straight male, but the leather lunged, mountain style preaching with hell fire and damnation imagery kept him in the closet, and ultimately led to years of suicidal ideation until he finally found the strength to accept his God-given identity. After confiding in a dear friend of 10 years, he was outed to the church, his family, and friends. As a minister of 8 years, a musician and worship leader since age 8- his coming out was met with intense resistance and ridicule.

Through  all of the turmoil, the peace and freedom he now experiences has made the journey worthwhile, and he has a newfound excitement for the future.

Matthew is in healthcare, is currently studying Medical Sonography, and has plans to relocated after college, and become part of an affirming church in an effort to once and for all love people as God truly calls us all to love.
