  • Making Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy!

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/qziakvjr
Hello Hive friends! I hope you all are having a beautiful weekend!?

Not so long ago I already wrote about Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy, so in the meanwhile you all should be already real experts of Filipino food, hehe.

This time I write again about the same kind of food because I have created a nice new video for you! While in my last video you saw me cooking the banana leaves, this time I show you the process of wrapping the ingredients of Suman (grated cassava, coconut, and sugar) into the banana leaves, and I really hope you enjoy to watch the process!

Also this time I am not selling the food but made it for myself as a snack which I take together with my beloved black coffee!

Who is reading my blog already knows that my preferred side job beside being a domestic helper is to prepare food and sell it on the street. But that is illegal in Hong Kong, and unfortunately, not long ago another seller got caught by the police! That's a truly awkward situation ... but at the moment I don't dare to sell food outside anymore ... I wish that one day I can go back to the Philippines so that I can open my own business and completely legally sell my own food ... maybe dreaming for now, but I hope possible in future!!

Now I hope you enjoy the video and the photos of my newest Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy!

  • Hive Open Mic Week #262 || One Day At A Time by Cristy Lane, Cover

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/dksuovak
Dear Hive friends! This is the first time I am posting in the Hive Open Mic community! I am not a professional singer like maybe some of you(?) but I love to sing and I hope you enjoy my song!

One Day At A Time by Cristy Lane

I am happy to join Hive Open Mic #262 with the theme "Holy Week". I chose the song "One Day At A Time" by Cristy Lane.

I like to sing this song when I feel I like to connect with Jesus. If life is a struggle sometimes and I feel like tumbling it helps me to sing this song and feel that someone cares of me and gives me strength, it helps me to feel better again then...

I wish you all a blessed holy week!

Lyrics (which I took from there)

    [Intro]

One day at a time, sweet Jesus

    [Verse 1]

    I'm only human, I'm just a woman
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am
Show me the stairway I have to climb
Lord, for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time

    [Chorus]

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday
    What I have to do

    [Post-Chorus]

    Yesterday's gone, sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine (Ooh)
Lord, help me today, show me the way
    One day at a time

    [Verse 2]

Do You remember when You walked among men?
Well, Jesus, You know, if You're looking below, it's worse now than then
Cheating and stealing, violence and crime (Ah)
So for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time

    [Chorus]

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday
    What I have to do

    [Post-Chorus]

    Yesterday's gone, sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine (Ooh)
Lord, help me today, show me the way
One day at a time (Ooh)

  • Cassava based Snacks!!

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/kijxnajn

In the video you see me cooking banana leaves to try them and make them more soft so that they can be used to wrap the content of Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy!

Hi Hive friends! Here I am sharing again what I always do to earn some extra cash here in Hong Kong: preparing and selling food!

You know that Filipinos in Hong Kong always starve to eat some Filipino kakanin (snacks based on glutinous rice) like Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy, Cassava Cake (also known as Kamoteng Kahoy), and many more! But today I only want to write about 2 of these yummy Filipino snacks, both based on cassava.

    Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy!

Oh yeah... This is really my favorite, and my parents keep making this since we were little kids. They prepare this kind of food to sell it or sometimes also just as a tasty dish for the family to eat, especially on special occasions.

It's fun to make but here in Hong Kong banana leaves are sometimes hard to find. They are used to wrap the other ingredients (grated cassava, coconut, and sugar) to add a typical banana leave taste but also to keep the content moist enough during steaming. As Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy gets only steamed, no oven is needed.

Anyway, it's very yummy and I like is especially together with black coffee!

Here you can find a recipe and a detailed explanation about how to make Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy yourself.

And that's how it looks like when I prepare it:

    The already grated cassava.

The mixture is getting wrapped into banana leaves.

    The result after steaming!

    Cassava Cake (Kamoteng Kahoy)!

Oh yes! I love food! And I have to tell a story about Cassava Cake. The first time I tried this food when I was in my 1st high school year. And when I tasted this yummy cassava I was so amazed by its taste! I kept telling myself that one day I could make this kind of food, too... And finally, after many years, when I began to sell food in Hong Kong, I tried to make Cassava Cake myself ... I am so happy that nowadays many of my customers really love my Cassava Cake. Actually, it has become my most popular kakanin, hehe!

Cassava cake is baked (maybe you also can try to stem it) and therefore an oven is needed. When I was a child some people also used a pogon (furnace) for that purpose as they couldn't afford an oven.

Here you can find a very good guidance about how to make Cassava Cake yourself.

So now I want to show you how I prepare Kamoteng Kahoy... The hardest part when making this kind of kakanin is to grate the cassava! ... Enjoy the pictures!

The first four pics show how I grated a cassava.

    The baked Cassava Cake.

  • My push-up challenge, part 3; I won!!

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/uumcwrkc
    ## Hello Hive folks! Do you still remember my push-up challenge?

Can you believe it: I already reached my goal to do 20 push-ups in a row, that means I WON the push-up challenge!!

Yes, so hard, but yeah, I finally did it!! Hehe, I am really proud of myself now!

Adding some other gym to my video

To make it more interesting, today I show you not only my push ups (yes, you can watch me winning that challenge! Hehe) but at the beginning also part of my gym routine.

    Next project: sit-ups!

You know, I am really excited that recently I made some progress in doing push-ups! I already noticed how my muscles in arms, shoulders and chest are getting stronger! But I still have many other aims to reach. Can you for example believe how hard sit-ups are, if you didn't practice them since quite I while? I can tell you ... that is the next area needing some improvement! Hehe

What are your current ambitions or aims in sports?

  • My loveliest experience of Sunday life here in Hong Kong as a voluntary worker!

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/jbeojuvw
    ## Spending my Sunday as a Voluntary Servant!

Yes! Here in Hong Kong there are lots of communities that we can join! Since I live in Hong Kong I love to meet people in church who are so busy doing something every Sunday. They are singing! They do cleaning. And so many more which I always experience when going to the Catholic church on Sundays.

This is so important for us because we OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) can go out for ourselves only once a week. And also because my dream is to serve people without them having to pay me back, doing some charity.
I grew up in a poor family and always had the dream of having a good life. At my young age I also tried out a lot of jobs to master my hard life and survive. Then when I started to work abroad, at least I earned more than in my job in the Philippines: there I sometimes even couldn't eat 3 times a day as I had to save money. These days I ate only for lunch, no breakfast, no dinner.
Also because of this experience with having a hard time myself, one of the aims I pursue in my life is that I want to do more good things to others ... as we know, what we give is also what we will receive. I am a big believer in Christ. I am not that perfect, I know I made mistakes a lot of times, but I also know that my heart is pure.

I remember the first time I attempted to join the community was on my birthday, June 14, 2020, on a Sunday. At that time I felt so blessed in life, I was so happy that my situation had improved that I wanted to give something in return. So I offered someone in the St. Joseph Church to clean the toilet which they are doing every Sunday. But they replied that I can't just clean without joining the community as well. Thats how my routine started of doing work in the church and its sourroundings every Sunday. Sometimes we visit prisoners, homes for the elderly, helping kids and many more.

Today I'm showing you pictures of a project where I am playing with school children

As you can see in the pictures, these kids are so happy, and so I am as well... I don't know why, but I love kids as I love being like a kid myself sometimes, hehe... Well, I love to do whatever tasks are given to me, but I especially enjoy being with playing kids. I enjoy my time with them as I love to play like them, too... (isip bata ang lagay bah... hehehe). Actually, so far I visited this St. Louis School in Sai Wan Hong Kong only twice, for playing with and helping the kids. Seeing them happy fills my heart with joy.

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/epsovycr
Hello Hive friends! Some news from my sports today!

A week ago I started with my push up challenge. I try to reach

20 push ups straight until June.

This time my aim was to reach 15. Sooo hard!! I tried it twice:

    before and after my jogging.

In my first try I couldn't reach 15, but then, after jogging, I finally did it!!

It was really so hard, and I very proud at myself, now. :-)

But the challenge is still so difficult: in another try somewhat later

suddenly I only reached 7 push ups in a row again, oh nooo! :)

I will keep you informed if I can reach 20 push ups soon. Please

    wish me good luck!

  • Doing gym in fitness studio

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=gen-quimba/rjhuewkk
Good morning Hive! This is my first 3Speak video.

I'll show you some gym I did in May 2024 in the Philippines. There was only to pay 70 pesos for a whole day in that fitness studio! Most of the time I prefer to do jogging or dancing as I didn't enroll in that fitness centre but it was a great day there, yeah!

Hopefully you like this video, and I also hope to post more of that stuff in future!

Have a great day and God bless!!
