Jesus wants us to follow in His footsteps, of bridging the gap, and erasing the dividing line between image bearers of God... but making peace between those who were once separated, that we all might come to be part of the same family, joined together in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus tells those he's teaching that if we want to see all that God desires to show us -- most importantly Himself! -- then we can't have a divided heart. We have to desire, purely - the things of His Kingdom, and not to split our affections with the things of this world.

Jesus calls us, in verse 7, to be people who give what we've been given. Not to return evil for evil... but to share with others the undeserved mercy that God has shown His kids.

Sometimes we misunderstand things we haven't experienced, and righteousness is one of those things. Righteousness can feel like rules that keep us from the fun we might want to have... but once we experience the true life that comes from living life God's way, we won't just want righteousness for ourselves, we'll hunger and thirst for it. Jesus tells us that when we do that, God can't wait to fulfill that desire and hunger in us!

There are those who try and strive after all they want out of life, and who try and squeeze life into getting their desires met... and then there are the believers who understand that our lives are about God's desires... who submit to all He wants from us, and whose posture towards their lives are one of service and humility. This is who Jesus says will inherit the earth... not those who take it by force.

God's presence comes to us and comforts us.

This week's Daily Devo theme is an empowering force that keeps us going. Our theme this week is HOPE. When we face tough things in life that are unavoidable, no matter how much we stress about them - at some point, we'll have to face them. Jesus offers us hope in that space... that the troubles and hardships of life, though real and difficult - do happen, but won't last forever. In fact, we're able to draw hope from the reality that one day all of life will be made right and we'll be on the other side of this challenge, and into an eternity of rest in Jesus!
