Title: The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall
    Author: Kennyrich Fomunung
    Narrator: Spencer Bryant
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-20-15
    Publisher: Enrich by Kennyrich
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 4 votes
    Genres: Drama & Poetry, Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
Is a lion in a cage still king of the jungle? With this seeming riddle, wordsmith, poet, and author Kennyrich creatively and tactfully constructs this unapologetic narrative about the enigmatic African-American race--particularly about what makes this people of infinite potential their own worst enemy and the biggest contributors to what is wrong with black culture in America.
Using his signature writing style, which infuses a seamless blend of poetry and prose, Kennyrich paints a vivid picture that highlights longstanding plagues that continue to afflict black people in the United States today. In truth you may be offended by the controversial words herein, or you may well find yourself in agreement with them. All the same you will ultimately be impacted and perhaps even enriched by the bold and candid perspectives they offer.

Goading! Just what I needed to hear and read.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall to be better than the print version?
No, I prefer the print version, made my mind ponder.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall?
Hip Hop Poison provides significant questions and solutions to what affects the Black Community. Only if the artists in Hip Hop could realize their influential power, they have to do great things. This whole section is enduring.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Daddy Issues would be my desired scene from the Black Plagues that features women talking about the absence of their father for various reasons located in the Broken Family Chapter.
A conversation that needs to be heard!
What did you love best about The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall?
I loved the fact that Kenneth Fomunung did not back away from being open and honest about his views on the black community. He discussed numerous topics that many African-American authors would back away from due to backlash. Very nice piece and new perspectives on an old issue.
Tough discussion that need to be had
If you could sum up The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall in three words, what would they be?
    Honest. Needed. Impact.
What other book might you compare The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall to and why?
Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria: And Other Conversations About Race because this book tackles some pressing issues in the black community and dares to "go there".
What does Spencer Bryant bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I really enjoyed his reach, deep, male voice. It added emphases behind the already powerful words.
    Any additional comments?
This book tackles some of the most pressing issues in the black community. Issues that may offend or hurt, but need to be addressed nonetheless. What I like about this book is that while it dares to "go there" it is handled with caution. It brings food for thought to the table. While this book doesn't necessarily provide answers, this book gives you something to chew on while you consider the message. I definitely think this book brings up topics that are worth discussing in a group setting. Even if you don't agree with the author, I definitely think it is worth examining where you stand on the issues and I think that is the point of this book.

Alan Bennett's selection of English verse by his favourite poets: Thomas Hardy, A.E. Housman, W.H. In this personal anthology, Alan Bennett has chosen more than seventy poems by six well-loved poets, discussing the writers and their verse in his customary conversational style through anecdote, shrewd appraisal and spare but telling biographical detail.
Speaking with candour about his own reactions to the work, Alan Bennett creates profound and witty portraits of Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, John Betjeman, W. H. Auden, Louis MacNeice and Philip Larkin, which are all the more enjoyable for being in his own particular voice.

    Just Listen
The only audiobook I can truly say I turned on and listened to to the finish. I was completely entranced by the power of the poetry, the voice of the narrator and the background stories he provided for each poet. Even if you have only a passing interest in poetry or want it revived, give this a go.
    Acute and humorous
Well chosen and excellently read extracts from each of the poets to illustrate the kind of poetry Alan likes best. He does not veer from the contentious, which is a good thing.

    Release date: 10-09-14
    Publisher: Pan Macmillan Publishers Ltd.

    Publisher's Summary:
New poetry from a fiercely talented, Ted Hughes Award-winning poet.
Kate Tempest's first full-length collection for Picador is an ambitious, multi-voiced work based around the mythical figure of Tiresias. This four-part work follows him through his transformations from child, man, and woman to blind prophet; through this structure, Tempest holds up a mirror to contemporary life in a direct and provocative way rarely associated with poetry.
A vastly popular and accomplished performance poet, Tempest commands a huge and dedicated following on the performance and rap circuit.Brand New Ancients, also available from Picador, won the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry and has played to packed concert halls on both sides of the Atlantic.
    Members Reviews:
    A riveting collection of poems
Hold Your Own was awesome to listen to, almost as amazing as her collection Brand New Ancients.
I loved how the poems in this collection blend myth and legend with contemporary issues and ideas. This makes for some entertaining and highly original poetry. Tempest does something similar with Brand New Ancients and shes good at it.
Reading the poems is hugely enjoyable but Tempests work is designed to be listened to. I cannot stress this enough. Listen to Hold Your Own and be transported somewhere incredible. I love Tempests voice. I would kill to see her perform live.
    Raw and sublimely lyrical
Kate Tempest's verse is clever, lyrical and a sharp as a razor blade. For people who think poetry is prissy and irrelevant - take this!
    Amazing and inspiring
Kate's work makes me feel fully alive. So inspired.
Listen to what's beneath her work.

    Publisher's Summary:
Following in the footsteps of A Glass Half Full, Lone Wolf and When Jack Sued Jill, Homeless In My Heart - Felix Dennis's long-awaited new collection of verse - is 'the story of a fool whose life was saved by poetry'.
Felix Dennis' life has been a long series of unlikely events: incarceration by the British government in 1971 following the longest conspiracy trial in British history; recording a chart single with John Lennon; co-authoring Muhammad Ali's first biography; becoming one of the richest individuals in Britain; launching one of the most successful media brands in the world; falling into crack cocaine addiction; beginning the task of planting a huge native broad-leaf forest in the Heart of England; salvaging the wreckage of a life dedicated to hedonism; and, lastly, and most surprisingly of all, discovering that he could write the kind of poetry that people wanted to read and to hear.
Now, with the publication of Homeless in My Heart, Felix Dennis' extraordinary talents have come to fruition - from ironic tales of darkness and savagery to hymns of praise for the glories of nature. Homeless in My Heart fulfils the promise predicted by the author and critic Tom Wolfe, who has called Dennis 'a 21st-century Kipling [whose poetry] rollicks and rolls with rhyme, meter, and melody'.

Creative and good for teachers to use
Highly recommended for creative writing and English teachers. I wish I'd found this one several years before I retired, because it's the kind I had my students imitate as alternate research papers. It has ok poems about various night animals, plants, etc with sidebars containing factual information about each topic. Fun for kids who like poetry, animals, night, and informative nonfiction.
    Gorgeous book!
Beautiful illustration, engaging poetry. My children, who are both big animal lovers, just love it. Perfect for bedtime story time!
    Beautiful illustrations
Absolutely beautifully illustrated book. I could look at it all night. Honestly got it for me and not the kids.
    Beautiful poems and illustrations
These poems are wonderful, they share a real appreciation for the nighttime side of nature. The illustrations are lovely, and each page even has a little informational paragraph about the subject of the poem (snails, owls, mushrooms, etc). I read these to my daughter all the time.
    dark emperor is awsome!
There was so much poetic language and description from a poet's eye. My favorite poem in the book is welcome to the night because of the dark rhyming language
