    Different spin on Andrew Luster
What about Elijah Alexanders performance did you like?
Elijah Alexander gave a very good performance. I would listen to him again.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    In one day anyway.
    Any additional comments?
The Devil's Bounty starts out with a bang - literally. A young woman is shot I'm the abdomen trying to find Ryan Lock. Obviously there are people out there who don't want her to find him, don't want him helping her or getting involved in any way. Lock patches her up and rushes her to the hospital where he gets the story.
Seems there's a fugitive (Charlie Mendez) on the run, sentenced to prison with out parole for raping young women with the use of a date rape drug and video taping the whole thing. He runs to Mexico and that's where the similarities end. This guy had some pretty bad people looking out for him and then the murders of the young factory workers is worked into the story.
This book is hair raising and very entertaining as long as you don't think about the fact that some of this is loosely based on reality. Moves along at a good clip.
The Ryan Lock character reminds me very much of Nathan McBride by Andrew Peterson. I have enjoyed both of these series immensely.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
If you found this review helpful please indicate so. Thank You.
I could not finish this book...
I got to chapter 61. and had to call it quits. I just couldn't get into the story and characters. I rarely do not finish a book, will keep reading to the end to give it a chance to take me into the plot. I purchased the kindle book too, I will try reading it to see if it was the narration, but I don't think so...
    Excellent suspense novel in an...
...inconsistent series. With The Devil's Bounty, Book 4 in the series, Sean Black finally delivers a 5 star suspense thriller in his Ryan Lock series Lock is a bodyguard/personal protection specialist along with his partner/employee Ty Johnson. In this novel they go to the badlands of Mexico to recover rich playboy Charlie Mendez who was convicted of the rape and murder of several young female college students before escaping while awaiting sentencing. Mendez is being protected by a drug cartel. The suspense is intense and the story line is realistic and interesting.

    Loved it! A action-packed thriller!
Philip Mercer, Geologist, is perhaps an unlikely hero. In this, the first book in the Philip Mercer series, we have a plot that spans decades involving the KGB, a remote Hawaiian location, the CIA, the South Koreans, and a plot to break Hawaii away from the USA. It's far too complicated to cover in a review, but Du Brul is a master storyteller, pays attention to geography, local flavor, and authenticity, and his description of weapons and tactics is also very good. Besides, the story is compelling, imaginative, and you simply don't want to stop reading. I stumbled across a later book, and had to go back and start the series from the beginning. I have not been disappointed. If you're a fan of Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, and the like, there is a lot here you will enjoy. If you're a fan of Matthew Riley, Clive Cussler, and the like, there is also a lot you will enjoy as well. Du Brul is simply a great author.
Great book series and love reading from this author
Great book series and love reading from this author. He is a master at suspenseful adventure and I love the unique twists and turns this all takes through out the book and the action is practically non-stop and you immediately start feeling like you're Dr. Philip Mercer himself. Overall a wonderful read and this book series is definitely a series I would recommend this series for those who enjoy action and a little romance.
    Fast readin
Great story and packed with lots of action and suspense. Cannot put the book down until the very last chapter.
Pay attention to historical time lines
I read Cussler and the like for pure escape. I tried DuBrul because of his co-writing with Cussler. I can suspend reality which is required for thsee stories. I however can not suspend historical time lines. One if the most in shape young and fearsome villans is a product of a rape of a Korian comfort girl by a Japanese soldier? That would make this "young man" no less than 65 if we assume the story line take place in the early 2000's. The rape of a child by this "young man" was completely unnecessary. The series is now 10 years in. I hope it has found some maturity or I will stop reading
Vulcan's Forge by Jack Du Brul
Vulcan's Forge was the first book in the Phillip Mercer series by Jack Du Brul. It was first published in 1998. I have read the Oregon Files series of novels by Jack Du Brul and Clive Cussler and had been eager to find out what Du Brul's initial solo effort was like.

Guinevere and Zachariah Justis discover their true feelings for each other when they team up to expose Madame Zoltana, a blackmailing psychic who makes big profits on her client's fears.
    Members Reviews:
    Low expectations not met
I didn't have high expectations for the Guinevere Jones series, considering they were written in the 80's and the genre has matured since then. The first two were decent, but this one was bad even given those caveats. The male protagonist was brutish, while the female made stupid decisions. It has the worst characteristics of the genre, even for that time period.
Fourth in a series and still good storyline.
I liked the character Guinevere. She and Zack, of course, made the book a want to read, but the narrator is one I had to get used to, in all the books. Disappointed in the read.
fake Psychic BLACKMAILS her clients~~ 4 STARS
PLOT: Guinevere Jones #4~ a fake Psychic gets ahead by Blackmail~~
Guinevere Jones and Zac are almost living together. So the romance deepens in this last novel in the series~ While Guin is digging deeper into a woman being blackmailed by her Psychic Madame Zoltana~ Zac figures out Zoltana digs up the dirt on to a client and then charges 'big bucks"~ to PROTECT her clients from future evils~ as Guin goes for a reading Zoltana knows quiet a bit about Guin and suddenly Zoltana disappears bring Zac and Guin to join forces to find how discover what happened to the fake psychic. a man Guin dumped in her past is now attempting impose himself on her with some interesting results. a very good ending for the series. 4 STARS all the way and holds the interest and I think this is the best of the series.

Neither writer or performer ever disappoint.
Always an entertaining experience. Read the whole series do.
Jayne Castle is a good author
I do like the story by Jayne Castle, but the Narrator needs to have a change of voice to really make the book great instead of only good.
the Pentagram is a clue~Guinevere Jones #3~4 Stars
PLOT: Geuinevere Jones #3~ Artist Mason Adair has a few SECRET involving a cult.
Guin looks out her window and spots a mysterious hooded form across the way in her neighbors apartment. Calling Zac to help her she helps rescue MASON but notices the huge Pentagram on his latest painting. IS it a warning? Guin and Zac become involved in mystery and blackmail and violence as they discover a cult. This one is one of the better ones of the series. The elegent Elizabeth is Zacs new client wants his "services' ~ more than private eye services that is. She is wants him to donate his sperm so she can have a super baby. This turn moves Zac and Guin into a new deeper romance and they realise they are in love. Members Reviews:
    I Enjoyed This Book
This was my first time reading a Patricia Gussin novel. It's a good suspense book. It's not your typical kidnapping. It's about identical triplets, and there bond to each other. How one sense's what the other may be going through.Even though there are identical triplets, each one is different from the other. You don't know who kidnapped the girls until 3/4 of the book. I can't say who kidnapped the girls. It will give away the " Who Done It". I would suggest this book.
The narrator did a good job with this novel.
    Disappointing
I think it's the performance that ruins this book. The story is ok. The reader is not good, especially given the fact you find out pretty much right away that half the characters are Afro american. You'd never know. Just not a realistic portrayal.
    Spellbounding
Would you listen to And Then There Was One again? Why?
Yes, this book raises your awareness to issues with child abduction. It was spellbounding from the beginnning
What was one of the most memorable moments of And Then There Was One?
The reunion of the tripletts very emotional.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, but emotionally you could put yourself in the character's situation as a parent.
    Any additional comments?
It was conflicting that the one person, who was attached to the doctor was not convicted of the crime since he has engaged with the woman involved in the kidnapping.

A friend, Thomas Pilsner - the frenetic president of the Settlers' Club on Gramercy Park - calls Regan, desperately pleading for help. But now the diamonds are gone, the men are dead, and Thomas is a mess. He fears the police will suspect he is at the heart of both mysteries, and worse yet, he'll lose his job.
Enter Regan. Who better than the star of Decked, Snagged, Iced, and Twanged to solve the mystery of the missing diamonds and the suspicious deaths? Who better to contend with quirky characters like Lydia Sevatura, the self-styled "Princess of Love" who operates a dating service and her butler, Maldwin Feckles, who has just opened up the first school of butlering in New York City? And who better than Carol Higgins Clark whose sparkling, canny prose keeps listeners guessing "who done it" to the end?
Fleeced is a witty portrait of modern urban life, and proves once again that Carol Higgins Clark is a uniquely talented writer.
    Critic Reviews:
"Like an Agatha Christie incarnation, Clark knows how to pull out the whodunit stops of yore.... She cooks with the same three ingredients used by many great mystery writers of the past - elegance, wit, and a good plot." (The Ottawa Citizen)
"Good enough for holiday dessert." (The Calgary Herald)

Would you listen to Fleeced again? Why?
Yes, this is my 4th go round.. This is a very easy listen with a good story behind it. It's getting better each time I listen to it. No blood and guts just story and good characters.
What other book might you compare Fleeced to and why?
Actually the storyline is fresh and one I hadn't heard before.
Which character as performed by Laura Hicks was your favorite?
Regan of course. Bright and methodical in her thinking and actions. A very real character.
Carol Higgins Clark is always great
What did you love best about Fleeced?
Oddly enough the use of the sheep.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Regan Rielly of course. She is she a real character. Someone you would want to be friends with in real life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nothing extreme, but always good when you can walk away with a smile.

    Title: True Justice
    Author: Robert K. Tanenbaum
    Narrator: Nick Sullivan
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 14 hrs and 35 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-20-12
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 54 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
For Butch Karp, chief assistant district attorney for New York County, the nightmare begins when a shocking act of negligence results in homicide. Goaded by the media's sensational publicity, the public is screaming for blood, and the DA is listening. It is Butch Karp's unpleasant job to give the public what it wants - a thorough administration of hard-line justice - by prosecuting a poor, Hispanic, fifteen-year-old mother for murder.
Complicating matters further is Butch's wife, private investigator Marlene Ciampi, who has decided to return to law. On her first assignment, a case involving an equally unspeakable tragedy, Marlene has the unenviable task of taking on a politically ambitious local prosecutor who is pressing to charge a suburban teenager with capital murder.
With Butch and Marlene squaring off on opposite sides of a national debate, things couldn't get worse, until an astonishing turn of events puts their daughter at the center of a horrifying crime. Suddenly, everything they believe in is challenged, as they are drawn into a maelstrom of big city politics and small town values, where justice is sacrificed to the twin gods of public perception and expediency - and Karp must struggle to salvage his self-respect, his career, and his very life.
    Critic Reviews:
"Intelligent dialogue, a well-designed maze of political and moral traps, and the charming and incendiary chemistry between Karp and Ciampi. For those who prefer their legal thrillers with plenty of spice and a high IQ, Tanenbaum remains an essential addiction." (Publishers Weekly)
"This is vintage Tanenbaum: each of the deftly drawn characters wrestles with the moral dilemmas raised by the intertwined plots in a believable way, and readers will close True Justice's final page satisfied they've wrestled with those dilemmas a bit themselves." (Booklist)
"Karp and Ciampi are smart, honest, and aggressive." (Los Angeles Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
Tanenbaum has been there and describes it well
A winning criminal defense is the most rewarding experience any lawyer can have.
    Tanenbaum describes it well.
    I loved the book
    Thinking
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the story to a friend because it makes one think. There are always more sides to life than most folks can see and in this book, Tanenbaum effectively presents at least two of them. It can also be read as a relaxing adventure if one prefers not to get caught up in the social message.
How could the performance have been better?
Two major errors in reading disrupted the flow of this story for me repeatedly. These were: 1) he's reading a legal thriller and doesn't take the time to learn the pronunciation of simple legal terms such as Ex Parte; 2) he's reading in Spanish-speaker voices and doesn't bother to learn the pronunciation of a main Spanish-surnamed character. Were he reading from the perspective of an English-speaker, I could overlook the mispronunciation as belonging to the character, but this was not the case.
I like the reader's voice tone and inflection, but just couldn't get past the mispronunciation.
    Great book!
Very good story and well read. Book 12 in the series. Ready for the next one.

    Members Reviews:
    Enjoyed it
Would you listen to Hanging Hill again? Why?
Yes, the story really keeps your interest. I was pleased that the usual rules of behavior were bent for the main characters.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The story built well until it droppped you off the cliff at the end
    Any additional comments?
I find it very frustrating when an author pulls a Soprano-like ending. I don't want to use my imagination as to what happened. If I wanted to write my own end, I would be an author. I'm not; finish your book!
    Good book but..
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    With a warning
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
yes it was a really good book with twists and turns.
Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landors other performances before? How does this one compare?
Don't know but enjoyed this one.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was totally caught up in the story.
    Any additional comments?
I also felt like I was left hanging at the end so much I was sure there had to be another book. My choice only ,nothing wrong with the book I just need to feel it's finished when they say the end. I hope this isn't a spoiler for anyone else.
Enjoyed, but gross and a little unbelievable
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I did think it was a little gross (I'll not give anything away) and the "grossness" could have been more believable if the male character with the mutilation plan would have been built up to be a very high profile agent instead of just a financial agent. I know that's a little convoluted, but I don't want to give too much away.
The ending really sets you up for the next book and continuation of these characters, which I liked.
Rosalyn Landor is one of my favorite narrators, but I typically listen to historical romance and I had a hard time envisioning the characters in this book with her "posh" (at least it's posh to me) British accent. Her accent is perfect for historical romance, but I didn't think it fit well in this murder mystery. BUT --- she delivers a very solid and enjoyable performance.
    Good...But Felt A Bit Unfinished...
Would you consider the audio edition of Hanging Hill to be better than the print version?
I've only listened to the audio version and really enjoyed the narrator's performance.
Would you recommend Hanging Hill to your friends? Why or why not?
Overall, it was an intriguing story so I would recommend it, but I'd let my friends know how much the characters weighed on my nerves.

    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best seller John Lescroart delivers a dark, intimate thriller about the price we put on family and the terrible costs of seeking the truth.
Raised by loving adoptive parents, San Francisco private investigator Wyatt Hunt never had an interest in finding his birth family-until he gets a chilling text message from an unknown number: "How did ur mother die?"
The answer is murder, and urged on by curiosity and the mysterious texter, Hunt takes on a case he never knew existed, one that has lain unsolved for decades. His familys dark past unfurls in dead ends. Child Protective Services, who suspected but never could prove that Hunt was being neglected, is uninformed; his birth father, twice tried but never convicted of the murder, is in hiding; Evie, his mothers drug-addicted religious fanatic of a friend, is untraceable. And who is the texter, and how is this person connected to Hunt?
Yet in the present, time is running out. The texter, who insists the killer is out there, refuses to be identified. The cat-and-mouse game leads Hunt across the country and eventually to places far more exotic - and far more dangerous. As the chase escalates, so does the threat, for the killer has a secret that can only be trusted to the grave. Thriller master John Lescroart weaves a shocking, suspenseful tale about the skeletons inside family closets... and the mortal danger outside the front door.
    Members Reviews:
The narration detracts from the story.
What didn???t you like about Eric Dawe???s performance?
The narrator does a very poor job with voices. He is equally poor with doing male and female voices. Every time he varied his normal voice it was done poorly enough to be intrusive. I wouldn't get another book with this narrator.
    An okay read
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
    Not really.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No.
    Any additional comments?
I've not been one for romance in suspense/thriller novels and my position still has not changed. The relationship between the protagonist and his secretary adds no context or dimension to the story. Even more confusing when his so-called girlfriend (which happens way too quickly and not logically) spends her entire time trying to get him to abandon his mission: to find his mothers killer and his long lost father. I say, He couldve done without her.
There was nothing suspenseful or interesting about this story. I purchased it on the recommendations and glowing comments by other readers. Also, the summary made it seem quite alluring. A secret people would stop at nothing to conceal. I found the dialogue less thought-provoking and somewhat lacking. There was too much tension between characters, especially when it came to Wyatts so-called friends. I understand that the relationship between private investigators and the police is usually strained, but not your best or very close friends. The connection between his mother and a cult does nothing to arouse my desire for inquiry.
Finally, the narration sounded somewhat automated. Oftentimes I wasnt sure if a person was narrating or if a machine was doing it.
    Before He Learned to Write
This must be an early transcript, something from the early days when Lescroart was trying to decide if he had what it takes to be a novelist. Based on this performance, he would not have had the career he has since enjoyed.

    Good Thief and good book
Would you listen to The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas again? Why?
I would definitely listen to this book again.... It's an easy listen and the narration is perfect.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the main character's perseverance. He just never gives up on his writing or his "side" occupation. His personality moves the story forward. Each city is a supporting character to Charlie.
What about Simon Vance???s performance did you like?
Simon Vance has a great voice for this character.... not too stuffy, not too sophisticated. He sounds like a witty friend. His voice for female characters is also very good. The female voices do not sound helpless but rather they compliment the main character well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The "real" guidebook to where you want to go.
    Any additional comments?
When are the next books coming out? I can't wait. My husband and I enjoy this series so much.
I will read more of these
This was humorous with exciting moments. I enjoyed him getting out of his scrapes. I would read more by this author. I have also read his Amsterdam story and found it more deftly plotted, but the Vegas story is more fun.
    Fun Story
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas?
I enjoyed the main character's sharp wit and sarcasm throughout the story despite the things that were happening to him.
Have you listened to any of Simon Vances other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love Simon Vance's style. Also enjoyed Safe House by Chris Ewan. His pace is good without feeling rushed. He performs women's voices well without sounding forced. He is a little weak when doing American accented characters.
    Any additional comments?
It was a fun story, not a masterpiece.I enjoyed the twists and turns and how all the loose ends come together at the end. I would read another book in this series because the main character is so likable.
Funny, Engaging & a Delight to the Ear
What did you love best about The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas?
I loved the wit & dry humor of the author, delivered impeccably by the narrator. The main character's descriptions were thoroughly entertaining.
What about Simon Vances performance did you like?
He captured the essence of Charlie & delivered it. Since I knew that he was also the narrator of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, I was impressed with his amazing performance in this novel.
