    Publisher's Summary:
At thirty-two Dev is "mostly retired" from Raines Investigations, content to run operations from his sprawling Arizona home. But Dev has never been able to say no to a beautiful woman, so when Lark Delaney comes to him for help, the former U.S. Army Ranger from Wind Canyon gets back in the game. Lark is sexy, successful and dedicated to tracking down the baby girl her sister gave up for adoption. It should be a straightforward case, but it's not long before Dev uncovers a shady adoption ring and worsethe child's parents have been murdered and the little girl has been taken.
As the case grows dangerous and Lark needs him more than ever, Dev can't ignore his growing attraction for her. He also can't trust his judgment with women or the emotions he's long-since buried. But there's a chance, if he gets this right and saves Lark's niece, that he'll end up saving himself, too.
    Members Reviews:
    A Windy Romance
The back and forth attraction that builds between Dev and Lark. I like the fact that Lark is a strong determined woman. Self made and doesn't just drop her goals for the man of her dreams. And Dev willing to go to the wall for Lark, not trying to change her but not willing to let her off the hook about the attraction between them. The romance is hot but not overly graphic. This is a good romantic read.
PI, designer bags, and old army buddies
Dev though he was in love once before and refuses to let it happen again. He plays fast and easy with his feelings and his women. When an old army buddy recommends him to a gorgeous woman looking for her niece, Dev goes about business as usual. He will not mix business and pleasure; but once business is concluded, he will have her. Lark made a dying promise to her sister that she would locate the 4 yr. old girl the sister gave up for adoption. She only wants to make sure the little girl is happy and safe. When they find her, she is in a house full of slaughtered people. This job just got prolonged and Dev knows for sure there is no way he will be able to keep his hands off of Lark
    Wonderful series

149 B.C.- Escaping just ahead of the invading Roman legions, a Carthaginian soldier carries an ancient secret to places unknown.
1925- Percy Fawcett launches his final expedition into the Amazon, but what is his true objective?
Dane Maddock is back. Deep in the Amazon, a university group encounters a horror beyond their darkest nightmares and vanishes without a trace. Called upon to undertake a daring rescue mission, Dane and Bones must trace the true path of Percy Fawcett's final expedition, but the secret that lies at the end of the search might be even deadlier than the enemies who seek it. From the streets of London, to remote islands in the Atlantic, to the deadly jungles of the Amazon, Dane and Bones must penetrate a secret lost to history, on their deadliest Quest.
    Critic Reviews:
"Dane and Bones are back! Packed solid with action and witty dialogue, this rousing adventure takes a fresh look at one of the most enduring mysteries of the 20th century, David Wood delivers again with QUEST." (Sean Ellis, author of Into the Black and Dark Trinity Ascendant)
"The escapades of Wood's serial character Dane Maddock continue in high style with QUEST, an all-out blitzkrieg of a globe-trotting mystery-adventure that breaks from the action just long enough for a couple of laughs." (Rick Chesler, author of kiDNApped and Wired Kingdom)
"Let there be no confusion: David Wood is the next Clive Cussler. From the accessible writing to the wide-ranging plot to the main characters who don't give up no matter how long the odds, Wood's latest book, Quest, is a tremendous classic adventure. Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop until the last mystery plays out in the final line." (Edward G. Talbot, author of 2010: The Fifth World)

Even though references are made to previous adventures, they're not vital to know and are easily followed/understood within the context of the current novel (Quest), so it stands alone well.

From here, the story follows: Arthur Puskis, the Vaults sole, hermit-like archivist with an almost mystical faith in a system to which he has devoted his life; Frank Frings, a high-profile investigative journalist with a self-medicating reefer habit; and Ethan Poole, a socialist private eye with a penchant for blackmail.
All three men will undertake their own investigations into the dark past and uncertain future of the City - calling into question whether their most basic beliefs can be maintained in a climate of overwhelming corruption and conspiracy.

    An interesting plot
While the story line is interesting, the reader OK, listening to The Vaults, the story finished with me thinking it was incomplete. It was kind of 1950's serial style.

Tully, and Army colonel Benjamin Platt are at the scene of a deadly outbreak, desperate to identify the pathogen that has infected children at a Virginia elementary school. Despite the miles that separate them, the two cases collide as Maggie, Tully, and Platt uncover secrets that were meant to stay hidden in the remote Midwest landscape.

Too slow at the beginning, rushed through at the end
Interesting plot but feels rushed through at the end. Some loose ends. The author provides so much information about secondary characters throughout the book but it's not clear what exactly happened to the main character. It's very frustrating.
    Spoiler
Maggie was saved from being shot by a dog, but what happened after the dog bit an attacker? Maggie is injured, practically half-conscious, and alone with too bad guys (one hogtied, another bitten by a dog). How did she get out of there? How the dog found her? What was going on in that lab?
    Great book
Great read. In this book we have kids doing drugs in a field seeing strange lights. One of them ends up wrapped in barbed wire. We also have mutilated cattle turning up on farmers fields. The eyes ears and insides are gone. Taken by some unknown person. Two investigators and two separate crimes in two different places. It ends up one amazing read.
Another good book by Alex Kava
I read all the previous books right in a row, then took a break for a bit. I enjoyed coming back to Maggie O'Dell. It was another suspenseful mystery. I do wish we learned a bit more of the "why" and not just who the bad guy was. I also missed Gwen and Tully!! Never the less, I still enjoyed it very much. I am going to order her next book in the series now.
There's nothing like a good Government conspiracy story ...
that, plus Maggie O'Dell made for a fun and exciting read. I am disabled, so I have loads of time for reading. Also, I read really fast. Even so, every one of Alex Kava' s Maggie O'Dell novels seems to have flown by. I've been buying two books at a time so I can start the next one right away. I am delighted to say that I am a confirmed Maggie O'Dell fan. As a multi dog owner, I'm very interested in how Jake and Harvey will get along.
Awesome book but left you hanging
I liked this book but wanted more. The alien encounter was a bit much however the author always left you wanting to keep reading

With a rogue American Secret Service agent targeting Rose for her unwitting part in a North Korean counterfeiting operation, Poke can see trouble descending from everywhere to attack those he loves - and it will take every skill he possesses to keep them, and himself, alive.
    Critic Reviews:
"Hallinan offers a taut story line enhanced by an insiders look at Thai culture. This book features an unlikely but likeable hero and provides readers with an informed glimpse into a world they are not likely to experience otherwise." (Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    Immersive
Timothy Hallinan is as good as any mystery/thriller writer I know at immersing the reader in the world and situation of his characters. He uses wonderfully evocative detail to bring Bangkok to vibrant and chaotic life even for someone who has never been there. He paces the development of his plots expertly, keeping multiple threads twining all the time but never allowing them to become confusing or tedious. He holds back just enough information to allow us to enjoy the surprising revelation without feeling that we are being toyed with. And he has created a familiar cast of characters who are so appealing that we cannot help but be invested in their fates. Add more than a dollop of humor, much of it domestic and comically bittersweet to anyone who has lived for more than a couple decades, and you have a mixture so rich and familiar that it feels as though it is coming out of your own family. As a result, there is an intimacy in his writing which makes the threat or occurrence of violence almost physically painful, engaging the listener very powerfully.
Hallinan is one of the few writers whose books I ration, not wanting to gobble them all up at once. (Jo Nesbo falls into the same category.) I recommend him very highly to listeners who have not yet encountered Poke and Rose and Miaow. You'll have no problem staying immersed in these wonderful stories, I promise.
    Mr Bevine and Mr Hallinan
What made the experience of listening to The Fourth Watcher the most enjoyable?
There is something about Mr. Bevine's interpretation of Mr. Hallinan's words that makes Poke Rafferty, an over-the-top character, appear to be a believable super human. Definitely a fantastic combination.
    Tim Hallinan cannot fail.
If you have had a chance to read any of the Poke Rafferty books, you already know Tim Hallinan, and I may be preaching to the choir. Tim is a unique talent who shows us the life of Bangkok, Thailand in a way that is rich, finely detailed, genuinely empathic with the people who live there, and truly creative. Poke, Miaow and Rose are wonderful creations, and Tim always places them in dire situations, from which they emerge even closer in their small family, and in the broad landscape of Bangkok.

    Excellent introduction to this author!
I had never read Ian Rankin prior to purchasing this audiobook, but something about the synopsis offered by Audible caught my attention. When I finally bought it, I was not disappointed.
The main character was well-developed, and if you spend as much time inside your head as I do, you can very readily relate to Gordon Reeve. Rankin reveals a little at a time about his protagonist, and each revelation is important to the further development of the story,
The antagonist is also well-developed, and quite chillingly believable in his "evil". I may never again hear "Row, row, row your boat" without getting chills down my spine!
Steven Pacey did an excellent job with the narration, giving each character a distinct voice and personality, even those that required a bit of a brogue because they were Scots. His pacing was excellent, and he kept the suspense going where he should with perfect timing. Even during some very technical descriptions of pesticides and their effects he did not become boring or pedantic.
A good mystery, complimented by some fine reading.
    Detailed and absorbing
if you are looking for Rebus then you will be disapoiinted. if you are looking for a good read in the boys adventure style then this is it it is a book that unfolds at its own pace and will not be hurried. Gordon Reeve is a damaged man driven by his pink mist of rage and trained in deadly skills. all he wants is a quet life. conspracy theroists will love this. Big business as the ultimate corporate baddie and the lone avenger facing deadly foes and his own horrors. This flawed hero deserved more books.
    Brilliant story so well read
Loved the story and Steven Pacey so good as usual . Thanks!
The story is engrossing and exciting.
    Blood E Good !
Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Hunt to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version, but, the audible version keep me engaged for an 11 hour flight and the following taxi ride.
What about Steven Paceys performance did you like?
    Clear diction and balanced emotion.
    Blood Hunt - not bad
Not a bad read I did want to give up after the first few chapters but stuck with it & it was ok
Narrator good as always from Steven

Led by William de Hauteville, the eldest of five mercenary brothers, the Normans cross into Apulia intent on more than aiding revolt: they are seeking land and titles for themselves. Will the might of the Byzantine Empire crush Arduins Lombard revolt? Or will the treachery that stalks the lands favour the Normans?
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent narration and story
I truly enjoy historical novels, book one in this series was excellent, and this follows suit. The time lines and many of the individuals were actually real. Jack Ludlow put together an enjoyable trilogy this being book two. I'm looking forward to the listen to the last in the series. If you enjoy historical novels, this being about the "Normans", you will enjoy the books in this series.
    a good primer
    great
always wanted to know more about the Normans in Italy. This was a good intro.
    Draw me in
    Jumped around too much
It was not worth the money
I do not think I would buy another by this writer
Great Historical Fiction: Plus teaching cool truth
The series is great so far. I did not have the same knowledge of the Normans than ever before & what they offered to the history of warfare... Ludlow does a great job of describing a group of mercenaries that could 'bring the pain' when needed & the fiction of the situations could be obviously dramatized but the Normans & characters similar to the ones this trilogy is based on could have existed.
Part of what I like about historical fiction such as Ludlow or Bernard Cronwell, ect... is they make what global studies should have gone over the battles with as good as these authors, it would have made me pay more attention, ha. I will see what lies ahead for these books but things have def. changed and I'm not sure how much I'll like the last book... others may disagree but the author doesn't pull an HH Martin effect but there is a major change in what the end of the trilogy will offer. But I've been more than satisfied with the books so far, great battle vision & in depth descriptions of cultures. Worth the credit
    Disappointing
I was looking forward to the continuation of De Houteville brothers' story but it was not like I expected. This seemed to be more the set up for the final conquest of southern Italy by the Normans. This was more the political intrigue between Byzantium and the Lombards that set up what is to become their loss of control as they try and wrest military power from the Normans...typically done through assasination. In telling this part of the story the book moves slow, talking is not as exciting as a calvary charge.
Reading about the Norman mercenaries you get the sense for the military power they represented, but what they lacked was the mind for politics. They were brutes. We were introduced in the first book to the beginnings of the Norman desire to acheive more than being mercenaries, real power is land and titles. This book explained how that was acheived.

    Bones, bones and more bones!
Death Du Jour is the brilliant second novel, featuring Tempe Brennan, written by Kathy Reichs. Tempe's sister Harriet is involved in a life changing course which may be more than it seems. Tempe investigates a cult after the bodies of women and children linked to the cult, are discovered. Bonnie Hurren delivers a good performance.
    Death Du Jour
Another good book from Kathy Reichs. The storyline was very creative, full of suspense and detail and very well read.

    Thoroughly enjoyable!
I'd forgotten how much I love Dick Hill! His oratory skills truly bring stories to life. I get the impression that this isn't the first story featuring these characters and now that I've finished this one, I'm compelled to find out of my guess is true. I generally love the longer stories; must be leftover from my impulses as a kid to always check out thicker books from the library. This story is full of action and suspense; getting lost in their world was easy as there was just enough description. Sometimes authors can lose me with their habit of describing every little thing in minute detail. This author didn't fall into that trap. I'll definitely be adding him to my list of must read authors. A+
    Much better than expected
This book was a good listen . . well performed with a feasible, if not improbable plot
Gripping till the end. Great research
Great story line and live Mr Morrells research of the details. Feel like he's lived it. Brings his charters to life
    Excellent
If you could sum up The Naked Edge in three words, what would they be?
Have not listened to David Morrell in a long while...The Naked Edge started strong and stayed strong to the very end. Did not disappoint.
    Just OK
There are two books in this series, this is the second. The first was very enjoyable and satisfying this book much less so. I haven't been able to put my finger on why. I think one reason is Dick Hill. Stefan Rudnicki narrated the first book and does a better job creating a cool under pressure operator tone and cadence. And I think he did a better female voice. Dick Hill seems to have an edge and almost pushy tone to his reading. The story is also a bit stretched with some elements barely tied together. It just wasn't as satisfying as The Protector.
