Some people talk because it makes them feel important when others ask for their opinion.
They love being seen as the “go-to-expert.” In fact, the more that people ask their advice, the more important they feel.
If you want to generate more positive word of mouth for you and your brand, identify ways that you can recognize these clients. Look for ways you can help them elevate their status.
Acknowledging them, keeping them in the loop, and asking for their input are great places to start.
The desire certain types of people have to look smart, appear valuable or important is often paired with an altruistic higher-level motivation – “The genuine desire to help other people.”
They want everyone else to enjoy what they are enjoying, and it bothers them when they see people making bad decisions.
To generate more word of mouth marketing, identify these people in your tribe and help them to help others. Give them samples to share, information to distribute, and messages to forward.
Word of mouth is always driven by emotion and the desire to improve one’s status, not by the specifics of your business. People share because they want to look smart, valuable or important.
The people that are known for giving others good recommendations have no shortage of people coming to them for advice.
So, if you want to generate more positive word of mouth, your job is to (1st) identify these Knowledge Mavens from your Tribe and (2nd), give them information they can use to look smarter.
