    About Leonardo
    Any additional comments?
This story felt more like a biography than a fiction. The voice felt distant, as if we were just reading about Leonardo. There were hardly any feelings involved and I just didnt connect with the characters on any level. Compared to other historical fiction Ive read, this just felt like a slightly altered biography. Not sure whether this is a fiction or historical nonfiction.
    My son was riveted
Would you consider the audio edition of Leonardo the Florentine to be better than the print version?
I've not see the print version so really can't speak to this.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Leonardo the Florentine?
MOM!!! It can't be over yet, it was just getting to be really really really interesting! I want to know more. What happens next mom?
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
he sometimes over enunciated, making the reading a bit stilted sometimes.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I thought it was a good story. I joined my lad in wanting to know what was going to happen next. I think it would be great to listen to the next part.
    Any additional comments?
we both learned so much, Leonardo Da Vinci was such a fascinating character. we saw the good, and we saw the more challenging aspects of his personality. it was a well rounded story.
    Historically Fascinating
    Any additional comments?
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a good book, even though it felt like more of a biography than a historical fiction novel. It was difficult to connect to the people; ie. Leonardo barely talks to one of his friends and instead of feeling sad for him, I just didn't care. It was not an emotionally captivating novel. On the other hand, the historical aspects were fascinating! Learning about Leonardo's early life, the strains between him and his father and his apprenticeship was very interesting.
    Awakening of a brilliant mind
Where does Leonardo the Florentine rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It's a good audiobook, but read in an even way. I prefer audiobooks with every character portrayed differently.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the portrayal of Leonardo as a real, living boy.
    Which scene was your favorite?
All the scenes involving Leonardo and Lorenzo were very good. My favorite was Lorenzo observing Leonardo grooming his horse.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was engaging and the characters were well developed.
    Any additional comments?
A very enjoyable story about young Leonardo meeting Lorenzo, which culminated in creating some of the best artwork of the Renaissance era.

    Members Reviews:
Absorbing story with a heroine you'll root for!
What did you love best about Goddess?
From the opening scene, Goddess grabbed my attention. Callista Hunter keeps the action, conflict and suspense going at a crackling pace.
Unlike a negative review left at this site, I think the author did an outstanding job of world-building by revealing Olivia's world bit by bit, through dialogue and not artificial exposition. This takes particular skill. I am reminded of, for example, William Gibson.
I liked the heroine, Olivia. She and her coterie of friends are vividly drawn.
I especially enjoyed Gaius, Olivia's taciturn love interest. Gaius is a handsome and intelligent young soldier who falls for five-foot-tall girl Olivia who he initially thinks is a bit of a feather-head; until he comes to realize she is extraordinarily courageous and modest.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Goddess?
The story serves up some real twists and turns -- the heroine is at first horribly disillusioned when she discovers everything she believed in is a lie, and I was certain that one her friends was a fraud who was going to bring her further disillusionment -- until the author turned the tables on me.
Have you listened to any of Tami Leah Lacys other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator Tami Leah Lacy provides voices for characters ranging from young girls to powerful generals. She also handles prayers written in Latin. Most importantly, her overall tone matches the humorous and youthful tone of the novel -- although Goddess deals with some calamitous events and serious issues, Hunter's book is never dark or depressing, and the idealism and optimism of the heroine carry her through the bad times.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Even though the story is technically a fantasy, it is filled with historical detail drawn from the Roman Empire and deals with issues which have relevance for the modern reader, including fanatics who commit acts of terrorism. Olivia and her friends are very vulnerable in a world where they can be made the scapegoats of ambitious politicians -- exploited, used and destroyed.
    Any additional comments?
Hunter skillfully balances these darker themes with humor and infuses the novel with the sweet-nature of the heroine, who gets her well-deserved happy ending. I would certainly read future novels from this author.
Great YA/Teen Fiction About Goddesses & Gods
This story was interesting and full of twists and turns.

    Title: Touched with Fire

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 12 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
Touched with Fire, a novel of the Civil War inspired by the true story of Ellen Craft. Awarded top Historical Fiction Gold Medal Award for 2016 by eLitAwards.
Ellen Craft is property; in this case, of her half-sister Debra, to whom she was given as a wedding gift. The illegitimate daughter of a Georgia plantation owner and a house slave, she learned to hate her own image, which so closely resembled that of her "father": the same wiry build, the same blue eyes, and the same pale - indeed, lily-white - skin. Ellen lives a solitary life until she falls, unexpectedly, in love with a dark-skinned slave named William Craft, and together they devise a plan to run north. Ellie will pose as a gentleman planter bound for Philadelphia accompanied by his "boy" Will. They make it as far as Baltimore when Will is turned back, and Ellie has no choice but continue. With no way of knowing if he is dead or alive, she resolves to make a second journey - south again. And so Elijah Craft enlists with the 125th Ohio Volunteers of the Union Army: she will literally fight her way back to her husband.
Eli/Ellie's journey is the story of an extraordinary individual and an abiding love, but also of the corrosive effects of slavery, and of a nation at a watershed moment.

    Better than I was expecting
What did you love best about Touched with Fire?
It is an intriguing story that you don't hear about when you are being taught American history. Ellen Craft is incredible and I wish we would learn more about this subject and womens' place in war and history.
    Any additional comments?
While the topic is intriguing and appealing, it was slightly off-putting to find out the latter half of the book is fiction. With that being said, It was still a good book and I enjoyed it. The narrator's voice at times for was a bit mono-toned. However, his southern accent, at times, was able to cover that.
    History Alive! Reads like fiction.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this is an excellent book with a heart warming story taken from an important period of history. It is the product of 10 years of research, yet reads like fiction. The story is empowering and well-written. It is populated with colorful historical characters that you will want to know.
Who was your favorite character and why?
That is a tie between Ellen Croft (Ellie or Eli), Joseph, and William. You cannot help but like Ellen because she is so determined and passionate. She is a strong, independent female character with grit and dignity.
William is an amazing person marked by bravery and decency. The way he stood up to the Reverend in Ellie's defense reveals his character. He is courageous but not ruled by his passions. He is smart and honorable.
Joseph is love embodied. He is gentle and kind. He keeps saving Eli's life even when she is ungrateful and wants him to go away. He is a character you admire.
Have you listened to any of Hugh Harpers other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I haven't, but this book has made me a fan. I certainly will in the future. He gives a unique voice to each character that he maintains throughout the book. One of the generals sounds just like Bill Clinton. He has excellent pacing and when he sings the scene on the train you don't hear Hugh Harper, you hear two Southern belles singing.

A novel about adventure, family, faith and the character of a man who touched generations.

    Twice a Slave
This story is told in first person format as a grandfather tells his grandson about his life. Born to an Indian slave and her white husband owner, he is considered a slave to all but his father. Upon the death of his father he is forced to live as a slave on his own land. While he is eventually granted his freedom he is forced to leave his home. He and his wife and children begin the journey of spreading the gospel amongst the unclaimed territories.
It is a very detailed story. The narration was extremely well done. Tom Lennon did a good job bringing the story to life and making you feel as though you were there along side Joseph Willis.
Will definitely recommend this book to others.
I was provided a free audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great Story of Faith and Sacrifice
This book won't be everyone's preference but I'm very glad for the opportunity to enjoy this true story that is filled with family, faith, and determination.
This is the story of Joseph Willis whose life is a remarkable journey of slavery, prejudice, determination, forgiveness and faith. The challenges he endured in life were tremendous yet they made him a better man. This is not only a book about the life and ancestry of Joseph Willis but the heritage of the Christian faith and the sacrifices that were made to spread the faith across the Country. The USA was founded on Bible principles & standards and people like Willis pioneered the crusade to build churches and spread the Word of God. This book revealed to me of how much I take for granted, how grateful I am for people like Willis, and how blessed I am to live in a Country where I can worship freely. If you love interesting stories with religious history I highly recommend this book. I loved it!
The.narrator did a good job with this book. All accents and male/female voices were clear and distinct.
My heartfelt thanks to the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audio book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Joseph Willis was an amazing man
What did you love best about Twice a Slave?
I enjoyed the amount of work and research that was dedicated by Joseph's family to bring his story to life. I experienced emotions of joy, apall, anger, humility, sadness. Great story about a great man
Who was your favorite character and why?
Joseph by far. What an amazing man. Humble, kind, reverent, joyful, tenacious
    Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoyed when Joseph and Ezekial first met Anna and her friend.

    Visual Stimulation
After reading the book, I wondered if I would enjoy the audible version because of my personal connection with this story- a family member in the story (my great uncle Norman) and growing up in this area. As I began to listen to the voice chosen to read and give life to the different characters within, I found myself visually stimulated and wanting more.
My visual senses were awakened as I visited my of the towns and counties that I grew up visiting as a child. For example, I was at the church picnic and on the farm with my Great Uncle Norman. I was also on the train with going to my hometown Greenwood, Mississippi and returning to Black Hawk where both sides of my family still live and own land.
Hearing my great Uncle Norman's name and part in this story added new memories about his life that I can cherish since his passing at the age of 102.
After reading and listening to "Blood is Thicker Than Color," I am reminded of the importance of this and other stories being preserved for my generation and future generations.
Thank you TJ Morris for your research and preserving these memories...our appetite is wet and we are waiting for more.

New York Times best-selling author Barbara Wood's latest novel follows a disinherited English baron and a young New York heiress who marry and move west to build an agricultural empire in Palm Springs in the 1920s, when it was just a budding town on the edge of the Mojave Desert. It's a saga about ambition on both large and small scales and the rapidly modernizing world as the harsh, sun-drenched landscape transforms from a Native American haven to the playground of Hollywood's rich and famous.
Land of the Afternoon Sun is also the story of a woman finding her own personality and strength in the West against a breathtaking desert landscape that changes constantly and shows its deadly side in poisonous snakes, flash floods, and sandstorms, with dramatic moments of forbidden romance, reversals, treachery, betrayal, and, ultimately, triumphs.

another great read by Barbara Wood
another great story by Barbara Wood that i can so visualize under the right direction on the big screen in an epic movie. my only issue without ruining the ending for anyone was the demise pf 2 of the major characters was a bit anticlimactic. as far as the narration, the narrator was very good but sometimes her tone made me felt like she was reading me a childrens bedtime story lol. But i find that true of most of the narrators that perform the readings for BW's books. Either way i thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorites by BW are still Blessing Stone and Domina. If you enjoyed this book then definitely read/listen to either or both of those as well!
History of Justice & Romance Abide Together
Again my favorite author, Barbara Wood, tells a compelling story of the hard work and commitment it took to create a movement of Justice for not only the environment but the combined efforts of the people who lived on the land in the western part of the US in its early days and continues to ripple out for all today who benefit from our ancestors dedication.
