A no-holds-barred accounting of the actual battles, shown through the eyes of the novel's characters, uncovers mistakes and even incompetence at the highest levels. Closely following the actual battles of Midway and Guadalcanal, the listener gets an insiders view so vivid the smell of cordite will hang in the air.

Disjointed story, 2-D characters, no ending?
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book is probably best for a young person who knows little or nothing about flying or WWII history and has a very short attention span. It's also a poor choice for Audio as the author inserts a date-time group every two or three sentences, which get annoying quickly.
Has Vengeance: At Midway and Guadalcanal turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not sure what this genre is supposed to be. Is there a genre called "disjointed comic-book style with no character development and location/character changes every fourth sentence"? I have read and listened to a wide range of historical fiction and mostly enjoyed them and how they built believable characters and placed them in historical times and events to let the reader experience it as if they were there.
I don't think the author of this one ever really decided what he wanted this book to be. I also wonder if it was edited by the author only. Some of the flight instruction part was accurate and condensed well, but the rest was very chaotic.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Thomas Block?
Probably not unless the reviews by many others were stellar and I had read other books by same author. I will not try any more by this author, no matter who narrates. There was also a good bit of inconsistency in pronunciation of the names of people, places and even ships. Not all of these were Japanese either.
What character would you cut from Vengeance: At Midway and Guadalcanal?
I gave up at chapter 13. People and places kept switching so fast for no apparent reason that I didn't get a chance to know anything about any of the characters. The editing and continuity of this book is terrible. It needs a good editor who can make it flow and doesn't shift everything every few minutes. The writing level also seems more intended for a very young reader/listener, both with very simple sentence construction and with lack of any of the nastier details that go with war at sea or in the jungle.
    Any additional comments?
Very disappointed. Usually books I get here are better written, edited and performed, even if the content is not for me.
    Listen to this it's great
Just finished Vengeance. I really enjoyed this audio book. The story was excellently developed with a wonderful mix of back story and action perfectly spaced.
Mr Blocks narration was its usual engaging and enjoyable performance.

wonderful to listen to over and over
the narrator was one of my favorites! his voice was perfect for the story and distinguished the characters well. I listened a few times and now listen to it repeatedly to go to sleep, now that i know the story so well. very engaging and genuine picture of life as it must have been in early America!
LOVED the narration - Like listening to my Pappaw!
Would you listen to The Dream Bucket again? Why?
Absolutely! I have recommended it to all of my friends and family.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dream Bucket?
This was a great story - so many good moments! Without giving any of the story away, I will share one of the memories I really identified with, which was the group of men who always gathered together. It gave the whole story such a good southern feeling
What about Clay Lomakayus performance did you like?
I loved how he sounded like my Pappaw, down to the whistling when he spoke. It was a super narration. I found myself immersed in the story, like I was right there living it! It would be great if all narrations provided this same kind of good sense of actually being in the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was brought to tears when the house caught on fire, and the family was thrown into poverty.
    Any additional comments?
Can't wait to hear how the next one in the series is narrated!
    A good read
I found this book to be a very good read.
It was a great Christian story. Based on widows life experiences of losing her husband and raising a family.
    A Most Enjoyable Listen!
Listening to this book made me feel like I was a member of the Cameron family facing the struggles and joys of living in the rural Deep South in the early 1900's.The author paints a vivid picture of life in a time long past. The narrator is perfect for this story. Altogether, a most enjoyable listen!
    Dream Bucket
I liked the narrator, he had a great southern voice. Mr. Lomakayu's voice reminded me of southern men when I was a child growing up in the south. The story had some sad parts so do all good books, that are about history of the south and hard times the people of that era lived and endured. I had a hard time not spending all my free time listening to this book - very entertaining. Really enjoyed the audio version.

    Members Reviews:
    ANNOYING NARRATOR
If this book wasnt for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
    A most uncritical person.
What could Nathaniel Burns have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
A continuous narrative would be more satisfying. As it is, the separate books are more like chapters, never come to a conclusion, and end either on a cliffhanger to the next episode, or at the least, in an unsatisfactory way which is not an ending.
What didnt you like about Gregg Rizzos performance?
The performance is dreadful. The American voice, in this sort of subject matter, is obtrusive, he mispronounces so many words it's really irritating, and his placing of emphasis in the sentence is unnatural and peculiar, and also becomes extremely irritating.
What character would you cut from The Forgotten Papyrus?
    Not an issue.
    Any additional comments?
I love detective stories with an Ancient Egypt setting, and his female character is interesting, so I stuck with it up to this one, number 5, but the bittiness of the story gets worse, and I just can't stand this man's voice any more. I'm stopping here, no more!!!! (And as someone else has remarked, there's no papyrus mentioned anywhere!)
    Irritated listening
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A narrator's voice which is not so dry, clipped & wooden & so dicficultto listen to without feeling irritation.
What other book might you compare The Forgotten Papyrus to, and why?
Kevin Clay is a better & more imaginative narrator
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    Very wooden
    Any additional comments?
Too many things are left hanging; I didn't hear anything about a papyrus in the narrative!

A 2012 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award quarterfinalist (top 100 out of 10,000 entries, general fiction category).
Former history professor John Curry has been recruited by a time travel company to scout the best vantage point for clients to witness the inauguration of the first president of the United States. There's just one problem: When he arrives in 1789, there is no inauguration - and no United States. Until this point the time travel job has had its perks. Getting relationship advice from the legendary lover Casanova was valuable. Accompanying Casanova to the opening night of Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni, was even better.
But being stranded in the British colony of New York isn't what he signed up for. Few people have even heard of George Washington, and the short-lived American Revolution failed, presumably because Washington wasn't alive to lead it. John always knew history could change on a dime but not after it already happened. Right?
After learning Washington was killed 30 years earlier, during the French and Indian War, John realizes the only way he can return home is to ensure there's a United States to return to. Everything hinges on keeping Washington alive, which is not the easiest task when protecting someone famous for leading battles on the front lines while perched on a horse. While traveling further back through time to protect Washington, he uncovers a secret the Freemasons have kept for more than two and a half centuries and learns that the history he thought he knew was completely wrong.

    es so damn cute :')
I learned some history and 'twas sad but happy in the end. 10/10 would recommend
p.s. Did Lillian and John ever sail bc I ship it
Interesting story, and fun to listen to.
I am a fan of alternate history stories. I enjoyed the narrator's reading style.
I'll start by saying I am a huge fan of Doctor Who. Alternate history is kind of my thing. I liked exploring the idea that the American Revolution was thwarted before it had a chance to even begin. I think that the author told an engaging story that made me want to keep listening to end.
The narrator made the characters come to life in a way that was interesting and entertaining. There was depth and warmth in his vocalization that makes you care about their individual lives. I would recommend this book and this narrator highly.
    A Nice Surprise
I was a little wary of purchasing this book because I had never before heard of the author or the narrator and there were no Audible reviews or Amazon reviews. However, I listened to the sample and decided I could listen to the narrator and purchased the book.
I am a great fan of time travel stories and have been ever since I was a child watching The Time Machine(with Rod Taylor) on television. This book was a nice listen for me while I was cutting the grass and doing other chores. I enjoyed the narration.
Not too much science in the book, but that was fine. I enjoyed the history presented and found myself googling various things about Casanova and the Revolutionary War, etc. the author gave some detailed descriptions of daily life at the time--including bedbugs, the dangers of poor sanitation, the pervasive smells and the lack of bodily cleanliness.
