    Hasty Novella
Don't get me wrong; it was a nice little novella. The plot was good and it was entertaining. It just felt like a waste of time. It doesn't tell the reader much that she doesn't already know or that she needs to know. It doesn't delve into the relationships that Rhona has although it does explain how she met Sean. I felt like this plot-line could have been used later in the series are a sequel instead of a prequel. Like I said, it was a good book and worth the time it took to read it (hour and a half). It just wasn't worth the money.
An okay crime novella but nothing special
    WHAT I THOUGHT
Blood Red Roses is an okay crime novella but itâs nothing special. I read the authorâs novel Dark Flight years ago and have never read any more of her books so I was intrigued when I recognised the authorâs name. The novella stands on its own. You really donât need to have read any of the authorâs books or know anything about the characters. The plot is a bog-standard stalker turns murderer so thereâs nothing particularly original. The method of murder by strychnine poisoning is quite gruesome and not something Iâve come across before so it was quite interesting. I didnât know who the killer was so his identity was a revelation I didnât see coming. Overall, Blood Red Roses wasnât bad and I read it in one sitting but the novella didnât seem to have much point which was disappointing.
    Disappointed on price
Not buying on principle ! The same price for a 100 page novella as for a full book ? The authors publishers must be joking ! I'd like to think the author herself doesn't think that price structure is appropriate so I'll blame them ... Especially as it's an ebook and it doesn't cost anything to produce as such ! Really disappointed, though I'm sure I'll live without reading this installment in the series, having just bought the full series after being 1/2 way through book one, as I'm enjoying it so much, if I had seen this first, I might of thought again about supporting this author.

The Da Vinci Code with Shakespeare
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this audiobook to anyone that enjoys a good thriller and adventure story
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot keeps you on your seat for sure as you never know who it is that is after the main character, Kate. The people that help her along the way change regularly and though she trusts them half the time she shouldn't
Have you listened to any of the narrators other performances before? How does this one compare?
I never heard a book by the narrator before and she did a good job on this one
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it is and it was hard stopping it because I always wanted to know where Kate was going to and what mess she was getting herself into.
    Any additional comments?
This is a very enjoyable listen and I hope that J.L Carrell's next is done in audio format as I have read that one and it was really good read so I would love to listen to it as well.
    Disappointing!
There is no doubt that the author has researched the subject of Shakespeare and the various associated mysteries and conspiricies in commendable detail, but unfortunately it does not make for an enjoyable listening experience. The construction of the plot and the book in general is contrived and clumbsy. Potential enjoyment is further marred by poor narration. The female American first person narration is almost comedic and does not suit the nature of the book at all. Often parts of the narration slump into farce with a Cockney accent that makes Dick Van Dyke sound like a skilled linguist; an English aristrocrat who is a dead ringer for Snake in the Simpsons; and a so called Yorkshire accent that owes more to the west of Ireland!!
The book has been compared to the Da Vinci Code, but in reality it is only similar insofar as it explores age old mysteries and speculation based on historical ambiguity. All in all it is not an enjoyable listening experience. It may be that the book is a better 'read' than 'listen' , or that a more professional narration would help its cause, but as it stands it fails to impress. I was very disappointed as I had been looking forward to this coming out in audiobook format.
    Move over Dick Van Dyke
The book is dramatically overshadowed by the narrator's foray into the various accents of the characters. Her English accents are even worse than the famous cockney of Dick V.D. Absolutley amazing. Whoever authorised the release of this version should crawl into a corner and hope the earth swallows them up. The Australian accent has to be heard to be disbelieved! I've only read the first of the two part downloads, but have given up because the story line becomes absolutly purile when you hear it read in some sort of ' ere guvernor - wot a night luv' parody of the English language.
    Peerless Insanity
Truly the worst narration I have ever heard.

    Hypnotic stuff
This is a thriller and a commentary on American life in the small townships of the 40's and 50's.
Joseph Vaughan is a boy and man growing up in a town where young girls are being killed and it's a series of killings that wont stop and leaves the police baffled.
This is Josephs often sad story but grips you to the end with twists and turns of fortune . Not fair to tell too much but the reader is superb and the short pieces of blues guitar between chapters is utterly perfect for the story.
Does anyone know what the music is?
    A Quite belief in Angels.
I found this very interesting, gory and difficult to guess who was the murderer - but would recommend it as a good read
    Dazzling and Devastating
Unforgettable, brilliant book from RJ Ellory, who surely is the next great thriller writer to come out of England. It's rare to get a book which deals with such subject matter, that isn't a whodunnit, or a whydunnit, but a clever, thoughtful study on the effects of a terrible crime on one of the inhabitants of a rural town. Unmissable
    Q Quiet Belief in Angels
A thrilling beautifully written and read book. I was gripped from beginning to end. The descriptions are so vivid you can see the people and places.
    Fantastic
Another great story from the author who likes to write his own reviews. However, there is no doubt that he is on fine form here. Well worth downloading.

This is a collection that will explore our hidden paranoia, challenge all that we take for granted, lure us to new, exotic places - only to make us wish we could run back home, and keep us up all night just waiting for the safety of the dawn.
This is the second volume of a three volume audio series.

    Read and read again stories.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am an enormous fan of Peter Robinson and have all the Inspector Banks books in one format or another. These short stories are up to his normal standard. It is a genre I particularly enjoy. Although I enjoy new books and previously unread authors I like my old friends around me to read again one day. Robinson's stories are very well-researched and informative apart from the good characterizations and plots.
I have only been using audio books for about eighteen months and realise just how important the narrator is.
What did you like best about this story?
The variety, the plots and the insight into human nature
What does Robert Glenister and David Shaw Parker bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
They are good narrators, especially Robert Glenister. I cannot cope even with an e-reader now so the quality of audio books is very important. There is nothing as good as reading a book, especially the traditional paper sort, but I cannot fault the narration of this collection.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, it was.
    Any additional comments?
I am waiting for Sunday so that I can buy the third part of the collection.
    Not Robinson's best work
Despite the odd interesting experiment ("The Duke's Wife" in Volume Three, for example, a short story of murder featuring the characters from Shakespeare's Measure for Measure) and brief interludes filling in the gaps between the Inspector Banks novels, this collection is a slightly disappointing one. The stories are frequently predictable, unlike the full-length Inspector Banks novels, and certainly not up to Robinson's usual standard.
Bit cheeky stretching the book over three audiobooks, too!

A very entertaining and engaging read
Ben Zakkai's Coffin is a very entertaining book, every bit as engaging and enjoyable as more popular works from mainstream mystery writers. I found it fit my taste perfectly -- slightly irreverent, slightly mysterious and slightly sexy. At its heart it is a fast-paced story of a totally ordinary guy caught up in extraordinary circumstances. It has a developing plot, interesting supporting characters, and snappy dialogue that keeps you turning the pages. Although some of those characters may seem a bit unbelievable when they are first introduced, they become real and believable as you get to know them. As another reviewer has stated, it is as much a personal journey as it is a mystery. The main character, Herman Bachrach, is a struggling half-Catholic, half-Jewish photographer who practices neither faith. He discovers as much about who he is as the answers to the mystery in which he has become an unwitting player. As in any good mystery, you are kept guessing about what is really going on, but all questions are answered by the time you read the final page. While you are reading the book, you may find yourself wondering about the title. But, trust me, it will all make sense.
Susan Pettrone's review of "Ben Zakkai's Coffin"
    For "Reader Views" (9/06)
"From the very first paragraph, it is clear that" Ben Zakkai's Coffin" is one of those books which pulls you into the storyline by mixing interesting, realistic characters with a little suspense, a pinch of romance, and of course, the murder of a mysterious, beautiful woman. Add in a detective that is more persistent than a dog with a bone, and you have a book that holds the reader's attention from the first page until the last.
The storyline of "Ben Zakkai's Coffin" is easy to follow. Herman Bachrach, a seemingly simple photographer, becomes involved with Diana, a breathtakingly beautiful woman, only to find he is the prime suspect in her murder. Confusion reigns in Herman's life - his religious identification, the relentless pursuit by detective Sheehan who is convinced Herman is hiding something; and the demands by his boss Gabe Cohen to go to Switzerland and "finish" the job Diana began. Everything becomes more convoluted as Herman discovers the real reason behind the trip and the mysterious package he is instructed to deliver.
Cohen asks Herman to find Schtarker, and give the seemingly innocent bundle to him. This seems simple enough, until Herman discovers Schtarker is a man with an unbelievable past. Herman is at once faced with the history of his people, as well as events so horrifying, that Herman is hit full force with the importance of the package and the one word message he has delivered.

This is a rela good listen,a mixture of innocence and murder or is it.With really colourful characters.I really enjoyed this good thriller.
Deserves to be better known - worth a listen
Highly recommended. I'd never heard of this writer but I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that, while it's no literary masterpiece, this book has far more depth than the average crime novel. Certainly far fewer of those jarring cliches that are the backbone of far better known books.

Get to Know Margery Allingham's Wonderful Creation
If you like old school mystery and adventure stories such as Dame Agatha Christie's great Herculw Poirot or Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes then you should get to know Margery Allingham's delightfully eccentric pair of early 20th century trouble-shooters Albert Campion and Magersfontiegn Lugg. Her storiea are a delight to read. Margery's stories deserve to be far better known than they are.
    Five Stars
Print is small, but that's the point with this book. But exactly as expected and came in timely manner.
    Best in the Series
I am reading all the Campion books in order and this by far is the best one yet. I loved it, could not put it down.
    One of the best
This is certainly one of the classics of the Allingham canon. Recommend "Fashion in Shrouds" for those interested in their future adventures.

We are still dealing with a rather incredible international Napoleon of crime, but the characters are developed, even if some of the premises of the plot are far-fetched, at least, based on those premises, nothing that follows, however surprising, is unlikely.
