The daughter of a Florida drug runner, Alison Kerry lives from day to day, in seedy motels, surviving on cigarettes, Wild Turkey, and the adrenaline rush of danger. Allie is a runner and her latest job should go down easy: easy pickup, easy payoff - easy money. But in a bar outside Seattle, everything goes horribly wrong. Allie finds her contact with a bullet in his brain - and a government-issued Colt in his jacket.
Suddenly Allie has a killer on her trail, and the computer disk he killed for burning a hole in her pocket. For Allie, it's a cross-country journey through the Cascade Mountains to the winding back roads of Montana and into the darkest corners of a country's secret history, because somewhere between the killing fields of Vietnam and the wide-open heartlands of America, a horrifying truth is buried. A truth about a people, a war, and one woman's past - a truth Allie may not survive.

Do We Really Care About This Heroine?
Alison Kerry is our protagonist, and she makes her living as a courier hauling drugs and other contraband from one crook to the next. Her father is also in the drug business, as is his best buddy, and his girl friend.....etc. An honest guy sneaks into the book, but the author does him in quickly so that he doesn't make the other characters look too tawdry.
So, what's our Key West, trailer trash heroine (with the attractive feminine nickname of "Al") up to? She's moving a computer disc with some Vietnam secrets from one bad guy to the next, and she runs into trouble. There are three ho hum action scenes in the book separated by great gobs of filler.
I didn't care about any of the following elements of the book: the heroine; her friends; her family; the tedious, hackneyed Viet Nam atrocity plot; the soporific action scenes; or the writing. This, indeed, is one of those books that once you put it down, you will have trouble picking it up again.
    Great writing, unbelievable plot
If you want to send a computer disc with Vietnam secrets why not US Mail or Fedex - or just telephone the New York Times? If you think you're being framed for murder why not get a lawyer?Flashbacks to cobble the plot and explain obscure motives. But she is a great heroine and the action scenes keep you on the edge of your seat.
A Great Debut Novel from Jenny Siler
Alison Kerry's childhood was anything but normal. Raised in the Florida Keys by her father, a Vietnam vet-turned-barkeeper and smuggler, Allie learned early on the skills necessary to survive on the wrong side of the American dream. As a young girl, she learned how to drink and fight and shoot and joined her father and his partner on their drug smuggling expeditions before falling into the grip of a nasty cocaine habit. Now in recovery, she has become a courier, driving packages from one part of the country to another.
Allie is not working for UPS or FedEx, but rather for any number of shadowy figures who pay her well for her services.

Leaving behind his wife and children to face the wrath of the men sent to collect the debt. But Danny's ruthlessness on the streets of London doesn't stop at his front door. He rules his wife, Mary, and his children with an iron will - and his fists. I liked it but it was hard reading kind of book you take up put down take up again.
The violence was too much and it was realistic but depressing
Inside the British Mobster Scene - Become a "Face"
I was lucky to get an advanced copy of this excellent novel from an author I did not know of. Based on this book, I will know her going forward. It is an excellent introduction into the world of the British mobster scene. In some ways it parallels "Wise Guy" (the book version of Goodfellas) however, Ms. Cole shows that these British thugs have very few rules of conduct.
Danny Boy Codigan is a fearsome "Face" which means he is a mobster that everybody knows and must give respect to (like a "made man" in the US mob). Ms. Cole starts the book with a glimpse of how the tale might end. We get the sense that everybody is plotting Danny Boy's death but afraid of the consequences should the plot fail. The book then flashes back to the beginning with a gripping story of how Danny got to be so powerful yet so hated. Danny was not even a teenager when two loan sharks appear at his door demanding payment for his father's (Big Danny) gambling debt. Big Danny had abandoned his family to pursue his own interests and didn't care that those interests may be detrimental to them. Danny Boy shows no fear to the loan sharks and when Danny Boy's mother attacks them, Danny Boy joins the fray. This incident changes Danny Boy forever, changing him into the dark yet flamboyant up and coming Face that people start to talk about.
Danny Boy is both charismatic and vicious at the same time. To those that don't know his vicious side, he is a "star" to be admired. However, behind closed doors he is brutal, especially to his own family. This book is an excellent read but those with a weak stomach for violence will be taken aback especially when Danny Boy deals with those that cross him or those he thinks need to be taught a lesson.
I give this book five stars and my only objection is that what happens usually involves pipes, knives and weapons of that sort and very rarely guns. So I wondered throughout why his enemies never gang up on him with firearms to take him out.
    Get to the point.
I had previously read Martina Cole's, "Close". I loved the book, the characters, and the plot.

    A good start...
It has been a while since I read a self-declared thriller, and I must say that this proved a page turner for me. I like a good spy story, though one doesn't find many writers who are as talented as Len Deighton, for example.
I am not fond of protagonists who have near superhuman skills to heal from bad injuries. There's a little too much of that here. But this is a good, ripping tale with a lot of nice twists. It's not a five-star read, but it's a good 4+.
    Superb spy thriller
A 21st century Fleming has created a more human, conflicted super-spy. The pace is blazing, with multiple plot twists, and a jujitsu maneuver at the end. I will be reading the next book.
    Spycatcher
A very good book. It is well written and keeps you guessing for the most part. It is a little slow for the first couple of chapters, but finishes nicely.
    So,so
This should have been a comic book. Really, MI6 throwing temper tantrums? Give me a break. Good plot but...... the spy with a minimum of seven lives. Only reason for two stars is because of the plot.
    Quick paced
Not so bad a read but sometime unrealistic. Good story plot. Shoutouts and number of killed a little to much to make plot believable.

    A disappointment
Where does The Last Templar rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Very near the bottom
Has The Last Templar put you off other books in this genre?
No, I'm tenacious and I know there are better.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
If there was one It came near the beginning.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The developing plot was directed towards an emotional non-climax eliciting a groan from this listener
    Any additional comments?
At the start of the story, I could believe in the characters. They appeared to have integrity and backbone. Then, sadly, the plot became awash with sentiment, cuddles and emotional twaddle. It should and could have been an exciting gallop through accepted religious certainties, confounding dogma and the accepted norms. But it ended in the main characters in each others arms having compromised their principles. Very disappointing though, of course, Jeff Harding was a good as ever.
    Gripping but confusing.
If you could sum up The Last Templar in three words, what would they be?
    Gripping, confusing, enjoyable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    I don't have a favourite.
Which character as performed by Jeff Harding was your favourite?
    That's already been asked.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, but I couldn't
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book but am still confused by so much of this book including the subplots and the historical elements. I wish I could listen to the unabridged book, but it isn't on here.

Suspense And Mystery Behind A Relentless Quest For The Truth
When I started to read "Moments of Truth" I was immediately turned off by the story line. It was unexpected. It seemed to end the novel just as I had begun to read it. I thought: why read further? There is no mystery. The crime is solved.
However, Lisa Scottoline is a skillful story-teller. She can hold your attention with the most mundane matter. The story starts with the startling confessions of an unusual client and develops into an interesting and intriguing plot replete with classic conflicts and unrelenting doubts on all sides.
The story moves through multiple paths of suspense and intrigue. It arrives at a resolution that affirms a timeless adage: good will triumph over evil. Lisa Scottoline's powerful writing force draws her readers into the story as active participants in a quest for the truth. She shows that this quest can be messy and can contain unavoidable tragic consequences.
"Moments of Truth" is a book I could not stop reading once I got started. Every page evoked my curiosity and had me engaged in solving mysteries. I was just as anxious as Mary DiNunzio, the rookie homicide defense attorney, and the lead detective, Reginald Brinkley, to discover the truth behind a high profile murder. It was exciting reading it. There is not one dull page in this book.
All in all I did enjoy the book and will read more of Lisa Scottoline's ...
The story was interesting but you felt from the start that the main character was not the doer. At times the story moved slowly. All in all I did enjoy the book and will read more of Lisa Scottoline's books.
    Another great read!
Moment of Truth is another must read if you're a Lisa Scottoline fan. Great fast paced book first to last page. I have only discovered Lisa Scottoline and her books this year but was hooked after reading my first book by this great author. Loved the characters and how the storyline grabs you and takes you for a great ride.
    Another Hit.
Enjoyed this book thoroughly. It was fun and daring and at times left me somewhat breathless. Do read it.
What to say? I'm hooked on the series.

    Interesting Story
This was a solid fast moving story with some interesting twists along the way. The story is set in Thailand and the author obviously knows the country and its culture very well. The title Noble Lies comes from Thai culture, where it is better to provide an answer, even if it is wrong, rather than not provide any answer and admit you don't know. There were some twists along the way, which kept the book interesting. The narrator was also excellent and added to my enjoyment of the book.

Caught in the crossfire, Stone's nightmare is only just beginning: for the hunter has suddenly become the hunted, in a heart-stopping race against time.
Unrelentingly violent, harrowing, and chillingly graphic as it hurtles us towards a truly shocking climax, Nick Stone's 10th adventure is high-voltage, pulse-pounding, no-holds-barred McNab: prose so testosterone-drenched, action so blisteringly paced, it could only have been penned by the master thriller writer at his electrifying, un-put-downable best.

    More excitement from McNab
I'm an easy mark for this guy. I have been reading his stuff since his first book, Bravo Two Zero. Very entertaining stuff. I really enjoy his style of story telling. This book is a real page turner. Even though these books are fiction, they have the feel that they could just as well be true. I burned through this particular book in 2 days, and promptly read it again. I would recommend reading the Nick Stone stories in order if you haven't, when you get to this one you'll know more about the characters.
    Four Stars
    Full of action and suspense.
    Crossfire
I enjoyed reading Crossfire, but I've read quite a few McNab books & I think the other ones I've read were much better. Still worth a read though.
    Excellent!
Love all the Andy Mcnab Nick Stone books! he gets his ass kicked, hes not the most handsome guy, hes a soldier with a heart of gold though he tries hard not to show it! scenery and locales are great, I almost feel like Im there!!!! Great book!
    Captures the atmpsphere perfectly
Another excellent story, this time set in Dublin and Afghanistan. There is a real sense of what it is like in Afghanistan overlayed with even more mystery and intrigue than usual. Very good actions scenes as you would expect but the end was rather short and a bit of an anti-climax and would have been better if more time had been spent on this. There was a sense of running out of space and rushing to get it finished.

    Members Reviews:
Excellent Retelling of the Battle of Britain - Ending Fades Into the Sunset
    M. Abnett is a very capable writer who has proven again and again that the Warhammer 40K universe and quality writing can coexist between the covers of a novel or - in his case - comic books as well.
Double Eagle covers a rarely visited aspect of the 40K genre, which is typically dominated by ground combat, aviators and war in the air. For "fluff" and background fanatics, this alone would be worth the price of admission, especially the central, very non-standard Imperial Guard squadron. Above and beyond this, M. Abnett does an excellent job bringing the reader into the story. Characters are surprisingly complex, yet very believable and "human."
The action scenes really stand out. M. Abnett clearly did his homework in talking to current-day Harrier pilots, as the trademark craft of the book - the Thunderbolt - has similar vector capability, and in consulting the historical record, integrating elements of classic true tales of air combat from WWII and other conflicts.
The central tale seems very loosely based upon British retreat in the very early years of WWII and the Battle of Britain, but M. Abnett has woven in enough other elements into the tale that history buffs might be the only ones who take notice.
There are two elements that might be considered weak points. The first is the enemy, whom aside from their ace of aces and his "flying circus," has very little character and acts surprisingly mundanely for a chaos force. Their bombing sorties come in organized waves; their aircraft are uncommonly uniform, except in color or decoration. The second is the ending, though this rather depends on one's point of view. To put it in terms that won't give anything away, it has a European art film ending rather that a US action film ending.
The short summation: another worthwhile offering from M. Abnett, well worth the read even though it isn't "perfect."
    Lots of action
This story spans the world in action, boggles the mind in double, double crosses, and pits two âagentsâ against their own government âs agencies in an effort to survive. Of course, the good guys prevail, but everyone else is suspect. Enjoy!
A REAL IT TAKES A THIEF PAGE TURNER
This novel is very internationally staged.

    Macho Cliche
Thought this could be interesting as historical fiction but had more (marginally offensive) stereotypes than you could shake a stick at. Insufferable macho male protagonist who is like James Bond but with even less personality/integrity. Any conclusions finally drawn are myopic, convenient and flawed. Also, the female characters were primitive and described mostly as the sum of their most attractive body parts. Sorry but I did not enjoy this.
