This book ranks in the middle of the DEAD books i have listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the huge accident scene at the beginning. I actually listened to it twice since it was so jaw dropping and awesome.

Have you listened to any of Pamela Lorences other performances before? How does this one compare?

no i don't believe i have listened to any other performances by Pamela Lorence. At first i wasn't too sure of it, but after a bit and i got used to her it was great!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The ending of the book left me feeling a bit lost. What was coming? what was happening? How will the town handle what's coming? What about the baby? I want to know what happens next ;)

I had questions on why the first zombies the police and mayor came across they were totally aware of the tracers and were not really shocked to see the strange eyes. i was expecting a little bit more explanation of tracers and all that near the beginning more since it is a bit more of a stand alone, but i did love that it included mentions of characters we have met and heard about in the other books in the DEAD series

Not much I can add that hasn't already been written. Not just a good zombie book, but a good book in general. Really great narration too.

Loved this!!

I only recently found this series and started off by reading Dead: Perspectives Vol 1 and on loving that, I got this one. This is just as good as the other series and I devoured this in just over a day!

This follows the story of not just one person, not even a few, but of a full community from Liberty, South Carolina. We get to see what a full town of people will do when the dead start rising. Can they come together and save their community?

It's hard to say much about the plot of this as there really is a lot going on and there are so many different characters that I may spoil something. I will say that it is a fast paced, intense, action packed and entertaining read. The characters were all well written and developed and easy to like and I found myself becoming invested in their stories. Even with there being so many different characters, the plot flowed nicely and I never found myself confused as to who was taking at any given time.

In all, this was a great addition to the DEAD world.

the navigator audio effects are annoying and distracting. book could be solid, but let's get a better flow.

Good story

This is a good series. Plenty of action and I liked the characters. There was no blasphemy in any of the stories. Thank you. I would buy more books from this author. The only downside to these books is the producer's penchant for playing music between each chapter. It adds nothing to the story and can get annoying sometimes.

Disappointed

I was disappointed in this book. It is confusing ( it could be less confusing in print ) the main character is, while not horrible or a bad personality or anything, flat and uninteresting. The plot might have been good but it was undermined by the point of view and flat delivery.

I kind of wish I hadn't spent a credit on it.

Not Unique, But Quirky Characters Rise It Above

Its a unique character story fit into an overused but yet exhilarating model of a hero captain that is being unused forced to take control of humanity's last chance against an alien threat, while the government and naval admirality is reducing all ability to fight during a peace time apathy. The viewpoint of crewmen from multiple viewpoints rises it from the average to unique making it a very enjoyable read and start to a new series.

Please not that old saw again!!

I had passed over Starship Alexander several times in my quest to find a book to listen to during the usual Monday gristmill because the summary outlined a cookie cutter plot: Old ship going out on its last mission with a full load of cadets as observers and captained by a short timer whose career covers a tendency to bend rules and reg's and interpret his orders to suit him. Of course this time the ship ends up in a running battle with Aliens who are better armed. Sound familiar? Don't let it fool you! This book made me resent the clock and any interruptions. Jake Elwood made Starship Alexander an engrossing tale full of adventure and action with a large compliment of well developed characters that interacted well with clear distinction of good guys, bad guys and utterly evil aliens. Colin Maheu, the narrator was flawless and from the opening line, kept me entranced. All I can say is that Assume did its thing and I was the one with the big ears......

White wing

I loved the full series of the first ordinance, except the narrator made a few mistakes, I am an avid reader or listener to Connie Suttle's work, I did find the fact that she mixed two book series' this one and blood Passage Queen Lisa and her mates I have all ten of those books and was saddened by the misinformation used from this series played into first Ordinance, I would suggest you not read the blood wager/passage Blood Queen books , or you will find like me the book facts are altered in the first ordinance.

Much better than I expected!

Maybe it was the cover art, but I didn't really go into this listen with high hopes. (Oh! That's where the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" came from! lol jk)

Likeable characters and interesting well thought out storyline proved me wrong quickly. I'm invested in the lives of these survivors (regular folks with no extra survival or gun training..... and smart capable women and kids too! Awesome!) - will definitely be downloading a part 2 if it's on its way :)

This was a very fun read and enjoyed every chapter of it. Please put the sequel on Audible!!!

A well done intro into new series.

Well developed characters without getting overly developed. Something that I'm sure many authors struggle with. The plot was interesting and again well developed without the need to constantly repeat the plot line over and over which is one of my pet peeves. This is a worthy addition to the space opera genre.

Don't be put off by the British accent of the narrator. He does a very good job of switching accents with the cast of characters to the point where I'm not really sure what his native accent is. Very well done. Up to this point John Lee had completely turned me off to British authors and in particular his narration. While I won't listen to a John lee narration, I may give some of the authors a second look.

Ignored frontier planet under attack

D Nolan Clark's Forsaken Skies is a sci-fi version of a classic theme previously rendered in western (gunfighters) and eastern (samurai) film motifs. In the this case, a planet on the edge of the human settled galactic expanse comes under attack from a mysterious invader. The geopolitical structure has planets mostly run by corporations with the Earth government coming to the aid of the underdog in any particular fight. In this case, no one cares about the planet which offers meager resources and a population of mostly religious pacifists. A retired and disillusioned fighter pilot comes to their aid after collecting a ragtag group of reluctant participants.

The sci-fi elements are limited to FTL wormholes travel and unremarkable electronic gadgetry and conventional space weaponry. The story starts quite slowly for about the first two thrids and picks up with lots of action, heroic action scenes, and unexpected surprises towards the end. All the characters are damaged in some way, either physically, mentally, or socially. Many of the plot twists are telegraphed a bit too obviously. In spite of a setup for a sequel, this is a self contained story that can be read as a standalone.

The narration is only moderately passable with poor gender distinction and overly dramatic accents. The speed is too slow for the pace of the tale.

Note: Audible lists the length as 20:05, but upon download, both AudibleManager and Android, list the run time as only 19:58 with no apparent loss of content.

What would have made The Survivors better?

Okay, I am a big fan of the MZB (MZB only not want-a-be MZB writers) Darkover books. The story lines and details in those books really got me reading. Survivors is nothing like Hunters of the Red Moon or the Darkover series. If the Darkover series were as bad as Survivors with its trite story lines and predictable cliches I would likely have turned away from my sci-fi and fantasy book fetish, become captain of the football team, class president, and then ruler of the world. No such luck. So if you want to be turned off to fantasy and sci-fi please read Survivors.

The story continues with the alien, Evaran, Dr Snowden and his niece, Emily.

Emily is captured and put on an alien planet through a rift so there is no telling where she was

sent alone with strange creatures..

There are several different things going on at once including Dr Snowden and his issues while

Evaran is trying to locate Emily.

Overall this was an entertaining read or listen filled with action, suspense, and adventure.

Michael Pauley, as usual, did well with the narration.

Another fantastic adventure. This is just a great series. Extremely fun and entertaining.

This is the 3rd book in the series not counting the prequel.

Each story is always interesting and creative.

Adventure, time-travel, altered timelines, suspense, action, humor, intrigue and more woven into a great story.

The past has been changed. Evaran, Dr. Snowden and Emily face their latest challenge. Purification.

This series would make a great T.V. show

Michael Pauley once again does a fantastic job with the narration. All the different character voices are great. Clearly spoken. Smooth even pace. He narration makes the characters and story come to life. Really enjoyable to listen to.

the narrator reads like he is talking to five year olds instead of sci-fi fans....and who calls ship engines "motors" WTH!!!!
