    Publisher's Summary:
Introducing an exhilarating new espionage thriller by former CIA ops officer Valerie Plame and thriller writer Sarah Lovett.
Covert CIA ops officer Vanessa Pierson is finally close to capturing the world's most dangerous international nuclear arms dealer: Bhoot, alias the ghost. One of her assets has information about Bhoot's upcoming visit to a secret underground nuclear weapons facility in Iran - in only a few days. But just as Pierson's informant is about to give her the location, they're ambushed by an expert sniper. Pierson narrowly escapes. Her asset: dead.
Desperate to capture Bhoot and the sniper before they inflict more damage, Pierson enlists all of the Agency's resources to find them. But with each day, the pressure of the manhunt mounts, causing her to push her forbidden romance with a fellow ops officer to its limit when she asks him to do the impossible. Despite the risks, she refuses to halt her pursuit of the terrorists, and she puts her cover and her career - and her life - at risk.
With rapid-cut shifts from European capitals to Washington to the Near East, and with insider detail that only a former spy could provide, Blowback marks the explosive beginning of the hunt for Bhoot, the villain whom Vanessa Pierson devotes her life to capturing, dead or alive.

Hokey and more like a dime-store novel
I liked Valerie Plame's autobiography of how she got screwed by the Bush administration and the CIA.
But this story is so bad I can't believe it's from the same person.
Also, the way the audio works, it is very hard to tell who is speaking and where they are. This is the first time I've listened to an audio book and wished I was reading text.
Also, the narration was so over the top that it became laughable.
Skip it and listen to a real spy novelist's work.
    Meh
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending fizzled but left the story wide open for the next book and many of the same flat characters.
What didnt you like about Negin Farsads performance?
The narrator has a lovely voice, but the pace was too fast.
    A Good Spy Story.
I loved this book and I am looking forward to reading more from Valerie Plame.
    Loved it!
Beautifully read, great action, very descriptive, you really felt part of the action. really a fantastic purchase
    Fast moving & sorta believable.
overall, I give this story a solid B+. it has the same believability as a '00' story & it was fun & (mostly) compelling.

    Hugely disappointing!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different narrator would have enhanced the listening experience greatly.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    The narrator ruined this book.
    Any additional comments?
I have never written a review before and rely on other's reviews for the books I choose so I thought it only fair to offer up my opinion finally. This is perhaps the worst read audio book I have ever listened to - and I listen to perhaps 1 per week and have been doing so for a number of years. The narrator can make or break a book. I guess the story is pretty good, as far as that goes - and I'm a huge fan of "Homeland" so thought it would be interesting to get some of the back story before the next season starts. However, the narrator, weirdly had a Boston accent, mispronounced so many words, I lost track, voices for male characters were a joke, she virtually destroyed any enjoyment I could possibly have gotten from this book. I stuck with it until the end, but it was a brutal listen. I will never again buy an audio book that has not been reviewed nor will I buy one without listening to the sample read. I caution others to do the same.
    Great Book, Terrible Audio Performance
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator simply failed on most all the male voices. It deeply brought me out of the book too often. Unfortunately, I decided to skip the audiobook and read it myself after 3 unbearable chapters.
Narrator is distracting - story good
The book itself was good but predictable. BUT the narrator was awful. I thought I was hearing things wrong, but her accent was very Eastern US. She dropped her "r's" and pronounced other words with a noticeable Boston or Jersey accent. It was very distracting. I have no idea why she was hired when there are so many narrators around who have "no" accent.
Haven't finished, but Narration is annoying
I really enjoy homeland and picked this up without listening to a sample.

Length: 12 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-16-13
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Ltd
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
Madeline Hart is a rising star in British government: beautiful, intelligent, driven to succeed by an impoverished childhood. But she also has a dark secret. She is the lover of the Prime Minister, Jonathan Lancaster. When she disappears on the island of Corsica, it's clear her kidnappers know about the affair and intend to make the PM pay dearly for his sins. Fearful of scandal that will destroy his career, Lancaster decides to handle the matter privately, and not involve the police.
Enter Gabriel Allon - assassin, art restorer, and spy - who must find Madeline within seven days before she is executed. With the clock ticking, Allon is thrust into a deadly game of shadows in which nothing is what it seems - and where the only thing more dangerous than his enemies is the truth. Gabriel's mission takes him from the criminal underworld of Marseilles, to the stately corridors of power in London - and, finally, to a pulse-pounding climax in Moscow, a city of secrets and violence where there is a long list of men who want Gabriel dead....
    Members Reviews:
Who and What Can We Trust?
This novel grew on me. The main person was Gabriel - an artist who was also smart and an ex-super spy, married to a woman who was also smart and talented. The couple lived in London and were good together. Soon after the story began, though, Gabriel became re-involved as a spy in an underworld almost against his better judgement when he heard that the prime minister's secret mistress, Madeline Hart, was missing. Action heats up quickly in this book.
Gabriel recruited a fellow spy Nicholas who had worked against him in years past. Later the two of them recruited other spies who they knew would be useful to bring down and/or infiltrate the Russians. For their plan, some of them even changed part of their names, although that made it more difficult for me, at least, to follow who was who. The writing was dry at times, yet also showed humor. Here is a piece of dialogue between a spy and someone from the other side during their work: "A Russian henchman met him (Mikhail) at breakfast to take him to the meet and suggested: 'Our office is very close. I hope you don't mind walking.' "Will we survive?' 'The chances are good, but there are no guarantees in Moscow this time of year.' With that, the factotum turned and led Mikhail into Tverskaya Street." (Mikhail was a pseudonym for a man named Nicholas, Gabriel's good friend.)
A minor difficulty I had with this book was that there were too many too many names and descriptions of all the people involved in this story for me to visualize and keep track of. That being said, other readers might not have that difficulty, nor did it detract from the storyline. I got the gist of what was going on and enjoyed this book. I also really liked the fact that action took place in other countries, such as France and Russia, so we readers could imagine being there, hearing the languages.
    So. Good.
I disagree with some of the other reviewers who say that Silva's latest, The English Girl, does not match the previous Gabriel Allon installments.
In fact, I believe this is his best book since Moscow Rules. Perhaps that is because the "new Russia" provides for such interesting villains.
Some people complain that Silva's books are formulaic, but the formula is part of the appeal.

    The Characters Come Alive.
    âThe Characters Come Alive.â
In Book #3 of this fascinating series, Ava Lee, a young Canadian-Chinese forensic accountant works at recovering money stolen. In this case, a wealthy Chinese gentleman from Wuhan, China has been swindled out of 73 million dollars in fake art masterpieces called Fauvist art, which is wild colors also known as wild beasts. Sheâs not sure the money can be found, due to the matter of time that has passed since the purchase, and the man who brokered the deal has died and his records destroyed, but she promises to look into for a few days, and if leads look promising sheâll have Uncle offer a contract from Hong Kong. Her trail takes her to Denmark, Iceland, London, and New York. Once she discovers the evidence to proceed, she starts working to bring the money back to their clients, only to have the clients decide on vengeance instead.
This was another fascinating story featuring the martial arts champ, and the method of her trail to the final source of her investigation. The characters come alive, and Ava Lee is a force to be reckoned with. Highly recommended.
Ana Lee takes on Art Fraud
This series just keeps getting better and better. What a wonderful character we have in Ana Lee. A Chinese/Canadian Lesbian Forensic Accountant with serious martial arts skills. (Think Modesty Blaise in Brooks Brothers shirts.) In this book, the action centers around Wuhan, the original home of Ms. Lee's "Uncle", and London, with side trips to Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and NYC. The client, Wong Changxing, has been sold $70M worth of forged art, and Ana's task is to recover the money. A fascinating look into the world of art and forgeries.
    I enjoy reading this series
I enjoy reading this series. The main character, Ava Lee, does a great deal of traveling and the author conveys a feeling that you're really in these foreign cities. The author has surrounded Ava with supporting characters which develop as the series moves along.

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 7 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
It is Bicentenary year and Australia is having the party of its lifetime. Detective Inspector Scobie Malone, hero of three previous Cleary books and the most human of cops, would much rather be out on Sydney Harbor with his family, watching the fun. Instead he is on duty, investigating the murder of an aide to President Timori, who has just arrived unwanted in Australia following a coup in the Spice Islands republic of Palucca.
With Timori is his glamorous wife, Delvina, a lady as famous for her extravagance as for her lust for power. Clearly the bullet was meant for the president, and Malone has the task of tracking down the hit man before he takes a second shot.
Malone identifies the would-be assassin as Miguel Seville, an international terrorist now turned contract man, a hired killer who wants to retire and needs the money from this job to achieve his aim. Malone also suspects that Seville is in contact with a young Aboriginal rights activist. But who is paying Seville, and why?
Prime Minister Philip Norval, an exTV star who is lost without his advisors, turns out to be an old flame of Delvinas from the days when she was a dancer in Sydney. Business tycoon Russell Hickbed, though a reluctant host to the Timoris, has his own reasons for wanting President Timori protected. And interfering in the cast at every opportunity is Hans Vaderberg, premier of the state of New South Wales, political enemy of Prime Minister Norval, and master of every political trick ever devised.
In this gripping new novel, Jon Cleary has set an ominous cat-and-mouse game in a sophisticated city intent on celebrating. But carried on the wind at the edge of the city, fire, the summer scourge of Australia, is scorching the bush and destroying peoples homes. Not all Australians will celebrate this two hundredth birthday and Malone knows it.

What was most disappointing about Jon Clearys story?
His plot is a bit tired
Which character as performed by Shaun Grindell was your favorite?
All the characters sound believable as they were red
    'Dragons' come to life
I've been a regular reader of the very good books by Mr Cleary for some years. His style, wit and humor, coupled with a meticulous attention to detail, have made him one of my favorite authors. So it was with some trepidation that I entered the world of audio books and purchased 'Dragons at the Party'. From the opening couple of pages I was hooked. Mr Grindell's diction, clarity and obvious enthusiasm crackled over the airwaves and brought the characters stunningly to life. This was the perfect 'marraige'; great author, brilliant narrator. Thank you both, and Audible, for making many hours of travelling, literally, fly by. Can't wait for the next one.

    Not A Waste Of Time
I listened to all of Other Paths The puzzle part was sort of given away early. the characters were interesting though and Price and Schatzberger kept my attention. Liked the senses of place Uh-huh sensES of place. Or maybe sense of places. Places in time. It is a smart multi dimensional story that, without flashbacks whips us back and forth from a sort of present (I'm thinking late 50s early 60s) and the middle of WWI with trips to WWII. Price gives the impression of being a captivating teacher whose telling a story to keep our interest while the events are really the subject.
The book kept my attention and left me with an intriguing set of memories. Hey, that's not a waste of time, right?
    History and a mystery.
Quite enjoyable story about ww1 battles and spy thriller too. I thinkit would be interesting for anyone interested in learning more about the wharf
    Really enjoyed this
What a gem of a find. I really enjoyed this story of a young man who gets embroiled in a present day thriller whilst studying a WW1 action. There was a nice balance of the now and the then and the climax when the two times come together (sort of!). The narration was quite laid back but it was gripping and I found myself taking longer on my walks because I was reluctant to leave the plot which, in hindsight was quite pedestrian compared with most modern day thrillers. I would happily read more by this author and listen more to this narrator.
    Interference at the end
Within 1 second on the story ending, Audible interrupts the listener the something like "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this book"
It would be much better if a pause followed the end of the story - or better still 30 seconds of music.
If i had been reading the book, and had the physical book in front of me, i would know i had reached the end by the lack of anymore words.... and i could reflect on the closing page or paragraph and remember what i had just read.
Bot oh no " Audible" is ever intrusive at the end of a book - very rudely interrupting my end of story meditation. Thus i declare the Performance/ Production worthy of one star only.
great story well told...no padding too...
loved it and couldn't put it down. would recommend to thriller lover's and historians too.

And so, with the Black Stone and the police on his trail, Hannay is chased across the wild country of Scotland. And while dodging his pursuers, he somehow has to find a way to contact the right people with British Intelligence. For if Scudder's code book falls into the hands of the enemy, all is lost.

... 39 steps was one part in particular that 'I' liked well as his mind began to grow back again ...
During a lot of parts of Hannay's thoughts in-side of the book and in reconstructing his thoughts to him self about the 39 steps was one part in particular that 'I' liked well as his mind began to grow back again to another bar of 'Annie Laurie; to the sound of 'Twisdon's as some kind of resemblance to the beauty of a black stone, the name isn't it,?' / And about Trafalgar Lodge the movie say's it's inside of the London Palladium. / And the movie also says that it was a woman that was skewered surprisingly with a kitchen knife in the back. When the book says that Hannay's imagination led us to believe that he had came back 4 hours past 10 and skewered the body of Scudder and then dressed Scudder into Richard Hannay's own pajamas when shooting him in the head as for Scudder was one of the guards men and the porter inside of Hannay's flat that was in-side of the new block behind Langham Place. Does this book relate to The Skin Game in 1916 (or) by any chance also the book Sabotage in 1914?? "I" enjoyed the book very much so that "I" could say that "I" loved the book, Thank You Kindly, MJQ Los Angles California.
An English Novel Pre-World War I
A good story with much detail and color to put the whole thing in a mentally visual context. Personally, I had a little difficulty understanding some of the local English vernacular, being an American. But I got the majority of the discussions and descriptions to keep the story flowing along to the end.
    A racy spy thriller!
A short novella. A racy read!
The plot revolves around a political conspiracy and the attempts of a colonial Scotsman to thwart it, after his chance encounter with the person who first detected it. Although some events seem more contrived and less likely to help the protagonist escape (I didn't trust one person he did when he was a fugitive!), this is clearly seeing it as a person in 2016 and not in the 1910s when this book is based. In fact, I believe this book was one of the first in the spy thriller genre, and clearly worth a read for that.
