From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Nashoda Rose comes a full-length friends-to-lovers romance.
What started out as a deal quickly became a friendship that conquered monsters.
I killed, but I escaped hell. Emotionless. Disconnected. Cold. A mannequin. It's what I'd become in order to survive the years held in captivity. I was able to endure the abuse and devastating loss as long as I remained detached.
But he wouldn't let me. Crisis, the bass guitarist in my brother's rock band, Tear Asunder. He's cocky, rude, a total man-whore. But the rock star has far more beneath the surface of his inked skin, and he's determined to make me laugh again. He made me a "deal", but really it was blackmail.
His terms were simple. Until his playful honesty became the building blocks to something unexpected. Something strong enough to pull me from the eye of the storm. Because even though I escaped years of abuse, it didn't mean I was free.
For mature audiences only - 18+. Listener discretion is advised. Dark elements.
Members Reviews:
Listening to gritty is different to reading it
Im going to keep this review fairly short. I know Ive said that before, but this time, I mean it.
To start off, I have to say that Nashoda Rose is definitely becoming one of my favourite authors. Her style of writing, depth and character development really appeals to me. I havent read a book from this series in a while and I was worried that I would struggle to remember what was going on. That worry was put to rest pretty quickly. What I thought Id struggle with, came back relatively quickly. The characters are hard to forget. The pain theyve survived and the happiness they found or are working towards makes it easy to pick up and follow along.
Now, to be honest, I think I made a mistake. I should have read this story instead of listening to it. Its hard to explain. The story is great and the audio is great but I think that some of the overwhelming feelings I normally get when reading myself, was missing. Sure, I still squirmed, giggled, gasped and shuddered but I think if Id read it, it would have been even more of an experience.
I actually bought this in audio form because Im a huge fan of Stella Bloom as a narrator. She does a great job again. Now, Kas Vadim, he does a great job toobut, I think I struggle with a guy doing a girls voice. I know that seems mean, sexist and judgemental, but a female dropping her voice to do the male comes through better (for me) than vice verse.
Now, story-wiseoh boy, oh boy, oh boy. You really have to toughen up for this one. I found listening to a scene with graphic violence, especially the one in this book, had me physically reacting. Yep, on the trainAGAIN. I swear my fellow passengers must think there is something wrong with me. My body jumped, my face scrunched up and I even said (out loud) Ewww. Just a wee bit embarrassing.
Shattered By You is not an easy story to enjoy. The pain, abuse and suffering that was experienced by Haven is not something youd wish on your worst enemy. The fact that it happened when she was really young makes it even more horrific. Luckily, waiting on the other side is Crisis. He holds the glue and sticky tape to help her put herself back together.
