Great read

The Augusta Lifeboat series has me hooked. I have always liked stories written as 'short' novels in a series format. It leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book.

The first 2 books really set the tone and now I cant wait to see where the characters go from here. Keisha and Randy are likeable, interesting characters with a world to save. I'm looking forward to see how they go about it.

Great job Jamie.

Fun read

Interesting twists and turns for the characters. Looking forward to the next installment of the series. I hope Jamie doesn't wait so long to release the next one.

Fabulous!

Another great one in the series from Jamie Beckett! Very exciting story to follow! Can't wait for the next one!

Title: Just About Armageddon

Format: Unabridged

Length: 2 hrs and 39 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-19-15

Publisher: James F. Beckett

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 3 votes

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

The Earth is wrapped in a thick blanket of dense, dirt-infused cloud cover. It is the aftereffect of a massive slab of space debris slamming into the planet - potentially exterminating all animal life on the surface. Randy Tagget and several hundred survivors populate the Lifeboat Augusta, one of three orbiting space platforms intended to preserve human life. Tagget and his counterpart, Keisha Miller, launched into space with every intention of returning to earth as soon as it was safe. Their assigned role was to work with their fellow survivors to re-establish the species on terra firma. That goal is not shared by everyone on board the lifeboat, however. Governor Raphael Fuentes has other plans. Nefarious plans he shares with no one, yet he pursues them with increasingly ruthless abandon.

Can Tagget and Miller survive the unavoidable conflict to come? Will Governor Fuentes prevail? Only time, luck, and nerve-shattering risk will determine the future for Tagget, MIller, Fuentes, and the last traumatized members of the human race.

Ground Control to Major Tom

The second installment in Jamie Beckett's sci-fi thriller series, Just About Armageddon, finds our reluctant hero, Randy Tagget, aboard a space platform called the Lifeboat Augusta with a carefully selected crew. Planet Earth, as we know it, is gone, victim of a meteorite the size of Manhattan. This crew has no idea how long it will have to survive in space, but that's not the only problem Tagget will face.

Beckett originally envisioned this series as something akin to the movie serials of the 1950s (think The Rocketman). In the first installment, To the Lifeboats, Tagget is part of an elite group of specialists (engineers, mathematicians, software developers, doctors, agronomists, pilots) chosen for their ability to rebuilt earth from the catastrophic effects of the meteorite. A total of 379 rockets were launched toward three lifeboats and 317 achieved orbit.

Keisha Miller, pilot of Tagget's ship, was trained by Governor Raphael Fuentes, who establishes himself as the leader of the Lifeboat Augusta. Fuentes is hardly the benevolent dictator. Tagget and a small band of trusted confidants discover Fuentes has designs on a larger empire in space and won't hesitate to eliminate whoever stands in his way.

Though Tagget doesn't know who to trust, he eventually forms a secret team with Miller, software engineer Ashish Shah and air traffic controller Ronnie Tarkasian in a high-stakes plan whose failure would not only doom them, but possibly their entire planet.

Beckett uses his background as an airline pilot to create realistic flight scenarios. Tagget and Miller must figure out a way to stop Fuentes, while protecting their co-conspirators.

In both installments, a major theme is the inability of people to work together, even when facing the destruction of the planet. Perhaps this is Beckett's commentary on the dysfunctional political climate of Washington DC or the inability of politicians to do anything to stop the environmental damage to our planet. Even in space, politics trumps the collaboration of people of different nations and races to survive.

The cliffhanger ending will leave readers hungry for the next installment.

Good read in a novella length

I know the author personally through aviation writing he does.

Interesting story

This story was a bit short but a good listen. I wish it was a bit longer that way the main characters could have been developed a little bit better. The story had hot sexy scenes. The story was also cute and weird at the same time. The narrator did a decent job I would buy this book.

Leaves me wanting more!

Science Fiction has always been an exciting genre with which to explore what it means to be human. Zealot's Folly is another fine installment in Win Strock's exploration of that subject.

Now, where's the next story, Win? You can't leave us hanging like that!

Really enjoying this series of short stories!

This is the 3rd short story I have read by Winfield and it's really coming together nicely. The writing is excellent, editing is very well done, and the story is moving along at a solid pace. The series is starting to come together very nicely - but it's succeeding as a series of short stories as opposed to feeling like you are just reading a chapter here and then the next chapter there. I will continue to read the series!

Fight.

Survive.

In the Little Miami Valley of Southern Ohio, three groups of survivors use very different methods to endure the darkness and chaos. In a small neighborhood a community comes together for support and mutual survival.

Predictable

Any additional comments?

I really couldn't connect with any of the characters in this book.I found them one dimensional and the choices they made were silly. The first three chapters are devoted to one character each and in the final chapter 4 is when their stories converge. The narrator just "reads" the book to the listener. The mispronunciation of basic words like breathed & gored was a definite turn off. I received a copy of this audiobook from the author exchange for an honest review.

The Start of Something New

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com.

This series is starting to pick up now that the characters from the previous episodes have come together and some are weeded out. You start to learn a bit more about each character and what makes them tick before entering into something new.

I'm really interested to see where the series goes with how it ended. I played through the scenario of the ending in my mind a few times and am wondering if things will play out the way I expect them to.

Just as good as the rest of the series

Would you consider the audio edition of Z Walkers: Strangers - Episode 4 to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't know, I only have the audio version but prefer audio and like the narrorator.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to each episode so far and really enjoy the series.
