    Very good read
No alien monsters, no galactic wars, just good people coping with a difficult situation. It was a pleasure to read and I hope you enjoy it too.
    Diferent and Original
Questor by LS Gibson is the fascinating story of the spaceship Questor, and the obstacles, friendships, enemies, and loss that the crew goes through after a unknown energy storm sweeps them hundreds of light years away from home. Severely damaged, the only chance the crew has to repair the ship and get desperately needed supplies is to find a planet that has what they need. The basic story is covered by the blurb, but there is so much more to this very solid tale, and I can't add more without spoiling it.
The story is character AND plot drven, with strong characters who are so vivid and solid that they could be someone you run into on the street. The plot moves from beginning to end with a sure, smooth flow and the backstory gives enough details so that you know what's going on without overwhelming you. There is no sex in this story, but with the fascinating characters and the solid, richly detailed world building, there's really no need for it. The author's style of writing is solid, clear, crisp, and renders complex scientific ideas in an easily understood manner. I really like how the author has taken a basic storyline and turned it into something so much more satisfying. You can't help but be drawn into the story and find yourself rooting for the crew to get home. The ending is bittersweet, but has a unique and very original twist that I really enjoyed, and never saw coming.

a worthwhile read for military sci-fi fans
Eventhough this is not an earth-shattering book, volume II of Gammalaw is thoughtfully written. The book is much easier to read than volume I. The plot is well developed and the story flows smoothly. One gets a feeling for the chatacters in the book, various settings, and problems they have to overcome to survive. I am eager to read the other volumes in this series!

Rincewind to hell and back, quickly
Eric, the 9th Discworld book, chronicles the adventures of the inept wizard Rincewind, who is summoned by a 13-year-old demonologist named Eric. Eric has 3 simple wishes, which he hopes his newly conjured demon can grant. 1. To be the ruler of all kingdoms, 2. To have the most beautiful woman who ever existed and 3. To live forever. What follows is a Discworld parody which draws upon Faust , Dante's Inferno, Homer's Iliad and the Trojan War. The book is laugh out loud funny at times but short and it does end rather abruptly. If you read it on a Kindle, you will probably get to somewhere at about 93% and find that everything is wrapped up and abruptly ended. Seems a bit incomplete but pretty good reading. 3/5
    A Fun Take on Hell
Eric turns out to be another fun story by Terry Pratchett in the Discworld, and is the froth in the Rincewind series. This particular one really jumps around a bit, and not only just around the Discworld, but around time and space as well which allows for the setting to change quite drastically from part to part. This is where the strength of this novel really comes through. We are given glimpses of each of these areas, that result for the not so intended granting of three wishes by 13-year old demonologist Eric.
Throughout the book we also get some glimpses into the world of Hell, and that is perhaps where Prachett's humor feels the most spot on. As expected, many of the elements of Hell are there, but Pratchett adds in some of his own flair, changing things up a bit and providing some great humor developing the Bureaucracy of Hell.
Overall, this is another solid novel in the Discworld. Fans of the series will most likely find something to enjoy, and it would also stand up fairly well as a standalone story as well. While the plot might be a touch slow, the constant change of scenery and the fun take on Hell provide more than enough enjoyment to keep the pages turning.
Eric is a wonderful story, with plenty of laugh out loud jokes
Eric is a wonderful story, with plenty of laugh out loud jokes, typical of Pratchett. My only complaint is that in the Kindle edition, the footnotes don't work as they should. In most Kindle books now, footnotes are hyperlinked in such a way that they either appear in a popup at the bottom of the page, or clicking the asterisk takes you to the footnote on its own page, where you can click the asterisk again to return to where you were in the main text. In Eric, the footnotes don't return you to the main text. First World Problem, I know, but still a bit irritating.

    Deadly Indeed
When the previous book ended, the crew was not much more than a small, rag-tag band of disparate people thrown together by circumstance. Trust was uneasy. Harmony did not quite exist. Read, now, the third installment in Drew Averaâs space opera, The Alorian Wars, as circumstance draws them closer and trust grows as the plot pushes them into a dangerous situation.
Mr. Averaâs writing skills improve with each new book that comes out. With Deadly Refuge, he fleshes out the main characters, complicates the plot, introduces some new characters and reacquaints us with and old foe. The story is well written, draws the reader into the continuing tale and is neither a waste of the readerâs time nor money.
I was originally given a copy of Deadly Refuge in exchange for an unbiased review. I liked the book well enough to purchase a copy in support of his growing writing skills and storytelling ability and look forward to the next when it comes out.
    Good read.
A little soft on the action side but it was ok. The story was not my type of action it
    Two Stars
The mix of characters is not quite right. Not strong enough as individuals or together.
    The battle continues on
More twist and turns in book two, the author keeps us on our toes. The Replicate needs supplies and repairs, but things never go as planned. Replicate crew have to fight once again for their lives, but help comes from a unexpected place.
    Four Stars
Great read, good follow up to book 1

What is humanity to do when faced by aliens whose language is vague at best? What is humanity to do when faced by aliens that are worshipped or feared by almost every other species in the universe? What is humanity to do when faced by aliens that make decisions that seem completely illogical?
These are the questions that must be answered by Captain Shiro Takahashi and the crew of the Astrid, and failing to come up with the right answers could lead to the annihilation of humanity at the prehensile limbs of the Lemec.
Governing, but not governing most of the nearby galaxy, the Lemec are a powerful species that no one really understands, and this is just how the Lemec want it. Captain Takahashi is trying to understand, but the Lemec try to block his actions at every turn. How can he ever hope to save humanity, and do the Lemec even care if humanity is saved?

    solid first contact story featuring
typical space-opera first contact story. Erwine enjoys linguistics, and presents here conundrums in translation. The humans have automatic translators, that in theory are still working correctly, but struggling with alien languagues that are vague, without structure, and possibly pronounless.
The humans come across a few alien species, with two focused heavily on, the Lemec and Kulnar. The Lemec appear to be "running" the universe to an extent, but not in the same sense humans have created empires on Earth. The ship's captain and crew making first contact struggle to understand the Lemec, their intentions, and the views of the Lemec held by other species.. possibly the Lemec are to be greatly feared. The Kulnar are difficult to converse with as well, but easier, and serve as translators between humans and the Lemec. The Kulnar seem willing to help humans to a point, and seem loyal to the Lemec to a point.. again, the intentions of the species the humans come across are almost undefinable due to translation issues.
In the end the human government and the ship making first contact find themselves in quite the confusing situation on the brink of war and peace.
A lost treasure of a read. Good job J Alan.
A fun read. Both my exes must have been Lemec.

    Great fun read
Mostly Human by Lon Varnadore is a great sci-fi mystery. 4Pollack, goes by Four, is named that because he is the fourth clone of Pollack. He gets the memories of the last death of 3Pollack, a metal taste of a gun in his mouth, and the bills accumulated along the way from the others. His partner is killed at the same time an old flame arrives. This flame claims she was looking for someone high up on the dangerous list. The book has a old detective vibe in a sci-fi scene.. Clones and other augmented beings are discriminated against on this world. I enjoyed it.
