Best to focus on this one....
    Any additional comments?
( I received a free audible copy for an honest review.)
I am not a hard-core science fiction fan. I do not like half of the story to be the art of physics. For this reason, I did enjoy this intricate short story. And it is intricate and full of depth and multiple themes.
The opening description of the dancers did intimidate me a bit initially, so I decided to put it aside until I could give it my undivided attention. I am actually glad I did.
This story feels like a spider weaving a web of stardust all through your head. You may not completely understand how the spider does it, but the result is a beautiful piece of work easily appreciated. The underlying theme of determination makes this a worthwhile listen.
    Dense, meaty scifi story!
They lost a group of folks precious to them and now they dance and trance, attempting to communicate with them, hoping there is still someone left to communicate with. At the galactic core there is the grandmother of all black holes. Some folks drifted too close to the edge. Now the people left argue back and forth about whether they are dead or not, whether they can be rescued or not.
This is a rich and dense novelette, full of characters that obviously have back stories. The reader is tossed into the middle of a years-old debate, showing the hopeful and usually drug addled dreamers who believe their long-lost friends & relatives life on and the more scientifically-minded bureaucrats who way the odds and find them wanting. Over time, a percentage of the population has begun to suffer from various diseases some are born with functional eyes but lack the connection to brain, and other afflictions. Humanity is dwindling with each generation. So they dance & trance, argue & survey, and stay in the area.
This is such a dense story, I highly recommend that you give it your focus in order to get the most out of it. Since you are tossed right in to the middle of things, you need to pay attention to work out what is going on. That said, it is highly worth your time. The characters and story line are well written. I love that there is so much that went on before we enter the story, as it gives this tale a full-rounded feeling. The character have agendas and hopes. They have history with one another, and with generations past. Dive into this tale and enjoy!
The Narration: C. S. MacCath narrated her own book and I am usually wary of books narrated by the author. However, with this audiobook, set aside all such concerns. She has a range of voices for both female and male characters and does a good job of imbuing the text with emotions when needed. It was a well made audio.
    Too busy
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not really. I do not feel I have the grounds to recommend this to anyonye as I did not get the fully understanding of the story here.

You don't know when it will change your life, or how, but the zombie plague is spreading quickly and in ways that no one could have imagined.
In Part I, an independently-hired researcher watches a mysterious plague decimate an island and takes notes with a gun-toting guard at his side. But the brisk waters of the Puget Sound can't keep it from spreading to the mainland.
In Part II, follow the infection from chapter to chapter and person to person. A frightened neighborhood cat, a harmless fishing trip, a room full of infected preschoolers. Perhaps someone will deliver it right to your front door. How kind.
Featuring short stories that showcase the many ways in which a disease can overwhelm a city, The Spread will get you thinking of how mundane acts can become deadly.
No matter your precautions, the spread will reach you. Of that you can be sure.

Your name is Harry Vail and you alone know the terrifying truth - or do you?
You are an expert on earthquakes and you fear their awesome power to the point of insanity. Now you are sure that an earthquake is building below your very feet. Your house, your family, your friends, your town, are about to be destroyed. The cracks appearing in the walls, the "accidental" deaths of local people, the strange movements of inanimate objects - all increase the certainty of your belief and the urgency of your warnings to those around you. The trouble is, there are others who have another, even more frightening explanation for what is happening - and God help you all if they are right.
    Critic Reviews:
"A piercing shriek of fear and panic from page one to the shaking end!" (Cleveland Press)
"Eerie suspense... Arthur Herzog's The Swarm was mighty scary, but Earthsound is even more so!" (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
Is that a new Qwack in the wall??
What did you love best about Earthsound?
It's an interesting concept that slowly builds and contains some well researched information. The setting and principle characters are honest, real and assembled in a mostly believable fashion.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Somewhat obvious, but had the action and wrapped things up in a way that made sense.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
OK, the narration. This performer could not say the word " crack". In an of itself, not a problem. However, the challenge here is that the word is used extensively throughout the book, and the ongoing mispronunciation became the focus of the experience. Every once in a while he would correct it, and they go back to his messed up ways. It drove me NUTS!
It's CRACK..not...QUACK! There is no mention of ducks in this story that I can see, but gosh by the sounds of it, there are.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Aside from pulling my hair out whenever he said " quack" instead of "crack", no.
    Any additional comments?
The almost funny if not sad mispronunciation of a key word notwithstanding, not a bad offering. Audible, PLEASE edit for these things ( and yes, I know, you are cranking out alot of content these days, but get it right will ya?! )
    Recommended with obvious conditions.
Earthshaking...Yes it could happen for REAL!
Would you listen to Earthsound again? Why?
Yes...I like the action and suspense. Also the narrator performs in such a way where you are drawn into the story.
What did you like best about this story?
That it could really happen. This book is based upon historical fact.
Which character as performed by Kenneth Campbell was your favorite?
The Main Character Harry Vail although all were interesting in their own right.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
At times it had me at the edge of my seat.
    Any additional comments?
I am an Arthur Herzog fan. He also wrote other best sellers like Orca, HEAT, and The Swarm.

Better than the first book I think
Oh phew, I won't reveal who, but someone dies in the book and hopefully the next book will be better because of it.
Actually there's a fair bit of killing going on and new characters, even girls! This story has more going on and is more interesting becuase of it. They get stuck on an island they thought was safe, fight their way out, meet up with some soldiers and find their way home. If the author put a little more effort and focused on details like scavenging or reinforcing, this book could easily be as long as a proper book.
Otherwise same issues as the first book. Billy just makes lousy decisions and the narrators whiny voice when the characters argue gets so tiresome. Not everyone makes their point by whining the last word of every sentence they say. I can understand if one character does that, but they all do.

    Twists And Turns
This book had me. guessing the whole time. Can't wait to hear more from My Antinozzi.
    Amazing!
Beautifully written, I found myself lost in the life's of the people in this story. Not only a great story but a thought provoking, eye opening adventure.
    Close to home!
I'm a fan of Nicholas Antinozzi's books. I never really gave conspiracy theory's much thought before I discovered his body of work, but he has a way of weaving a story that relates to every man and woman in our ordinary lives. This book was so timely too with social media and a virus scare.
The narrotor was comfortable to listen to. He wasn't really a voice actor, but fine to listen to and not in the way of the book at all (which can sometimes happen).
His writing is like a train that keeps speeding up with twists and turns. You get to the end of this ride and want more.
So: timely, sort of scary and a nice listen.

    Title: Just like Beauty
    Author: Lisa Lerner
    Narrator: Jorjeana Marie
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-18-14
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Just like Beauty is a brilliantly inventive debut novel that blends adolescent angst and cultural satire and is set in a disconcertingly not-so-distant future complete with high-tech food, mutant animals, socially sanctioned violence, and despoliation of the planet. This surprising combination gives author Lisa Lerner a fresh and funny way to explore family dynamics, gender roles, competitiveness, and the "beauty myth" in a society that keeps reinventing them anew for each generation.
A plague of mutant grasshoppers is invading American suburbia. An underground suicide cult is gaining national prominence. Gangs of teenage boys with blow torches run amok. But what really has 14-year-old Edie Stein distracted from her town's annual Feminine Woman of Conscience Pageant is Lana Grimaldi, the sexy girl next door. How does a feminine woman of conscience deal with her?
Just like Beauty offers a comically trenchant look at where our culture is heading and the absurdity that passes for ordinary.
    Members Reviews:
    Should Be a Movie
This would make a better movie! Lisa Lerner creates an interesting future world and sets up a great situation but I think the book moves a little slowly for my taste. The world she creates is definitely worth spending time in its just that I wish the book would have zipped along faster.Still worth buying!
    Just Like a Classic
In this satirical novel by Lisa Lerner, we follow the adventures of teenage Edie Stein in her dystopic surburban hell. Alternating between teen romance and startling brutality, this debut book speaks to us about rampant consumerism, mass self-medication, mother-daughter relationships, and how we view adolescence.
Wildly bold and imaginative, Just Like Beauty will grab you from page two and surprise you with how much you get pulled into Edie interior world. Yes, there's mutant grasshoppers and suicide cults and such, but despite all this, there's still nothing more perilous than growing up.
    just like a classic
beautifully written. if i had to categorize this novel, it would something like: humorous feminist dystopian coming-of-age story. definitely one a kind. read it if you get your hands on it!
I read a great review on this book and absolutely had to buy it. It's Lisa Lerner's first novel. It is set in the future in a society that is just kooky enough to seem simultaneously unrealistic and plausible. Edie Stein is participating in an annual "Feminine Woman of Conscience Pageant", a pageant that is so reputable that successful enrollment is seen as a high honor. It is no ordinary pageant though, to win you have to pass all sorts of strange tests. The pageant, in short, delivers as a winner any girl that can embody all the feminine qualities that would make her desirable to a man. Edie enters the pageant to make her mother happy and, although she doesn't admit it, she secretly wants to win - but doesn't know how she is going to kill her pet rabbit, in the "Sacrificial Rabbit" event (I won't spoil it, but you won't be disappointed in her decision). There's another problem that Edie wonders about, she's falling for her next door neighbor, Lana. Lana is against the pageant and all that it stands for. Edie is aware of the superficiality of it too but plays along to please her mother.

Ah!! Ciara Knight has captured our hearts once again with the second book in the series. You won't want to put this down after you start. Semara, Ryder and Raeth are joined by Penton (love this addition) as they journey not only physically to Middle Europe, but emotionally through love, joy, anger, and confusion. The love story between Semara and Ryder (be still my heart!) is amazing. Action, adventure, and emotional heartstrings are tugged during this read. I can't say enough great things about this book--or this series.

I'm going to start out saying this I hate cliffhangers. Okay I got that off my chest. Make sure you own Balance before reading this, I have to wait a little over a week and I'm going to go insane. I have to know what happens next. Don't get me wrong I loved this book and I love the series. This author is a gifted writer and you get so caught up in the story when it ends you're in shock. Now that I've taken a second and calmed down I can tell you this series is awesome.
    Absolutely Wow!!!
I could never give enough praise for this book. I loved it even more than the first. So many twists and turns, that I just could not put it down. I cannot wait to get started on the next book. I want to see if Ciara is going to out do this book. I am proud to have the pleasure of reading this series. I think everyone should read it. Such an awesome book. Well I am off to read the next one, go get this series and enjoy too.
    Four Stars
Loved the twisting plot. Thuroghly enjoying watching the main Characters grow and learn.
    A real page turner!
Too good to put down. I am not a fan of futuristic writing, but Ciara Knight hooked me from the beginning. She is an awesome writer and well worth taking a chance on a new genre. I recommend her to anyone looking for a great read.
