    Good story despite poor reading
What did you love best about Stranger to the Game?
Having read "From Ghetto to Glory" (which needs to be an audiobook as well) was good to hear Gibson's stories from '68 and beyond.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stranger to the Game?
Particularly enjoyed Gibson recalling his no-hitter.
Would you be willing to try another one of Fred Bermans performances?
Terrible reading from Fred Berman who clearly knows nothing about baseball and does not miss an opportunity to mispronounce a name.
    Any additional comments?
Despite poor reading is an interesting story from one of baseball's all time greats.

In this gripping account of one of the most important steps in the history of American desegregation, Jules Tygiel tells the story of Jackie Robinson's crossing of baseball's color line. Examining the social and historical context of Robinson's introduction into white organized baseball, both on and off the field, Tygiel also tells the often neglected stories of other African-American players - such as Satchel Paige, Roy Campanella, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron - who helped transform our national pastime into an integrated game. Drawing on dozens of interviews with players and front office executives, contemporary newspaper accounts, and personal papers, Tygiel provides the most telling and insightful account of Jackie Robinson's influence on American baseball and society. The anniversary issue features a new foreword by the author.

    Title: Dr. J Unabridged

    Publisher's Summary:
With startling honesty and an unmistakable voice, Dr. J is a historic self-portrait of an American legend, Julius "The Doctor" Erving.
With his flights of improvisation around the basket and his towering afro, Julius Erving became one of the most charismatic (and revolutionary) players basketball has ever known. But while the public has long revered this cultural icon, few have ever known of the double life of Julius Erving. Dr. J traces the inner lives of the nearly perfect player and the imperfect man - and how he has come to terms with both.

I may overrate it, but Im a hoops junkie!
What made the experience of listening to Dr. J Unabridged the most enjoyable?
When talking hoops with people these days, its sad because the legends of the past are often forgotten. And thats the case when talking professional ball or street-ball. You watch TV and you would think that the game was played by only Magic & Bird in the 80s, followed by Jordan in the 90s. Growing up in Philadelphia I know better. One of the most popular figures of my childhood was Julius Dr. J Erving. He was larger than life in the city. He was also a legend in street-ball. Most of the older men in my neighborhood wanted to be him and all of the older ladies would have given him their love canal if they had the chance. Not only was he considered a great ball player but he has always been considered someone who carried himself with class.
The great thing about biographies is the chance to hear stories and learn details about someones life you had no knowledge of. The Doc was an amazing ball player and he did carry himself with class but he was far from perfect. This book is not only filled with amazing stories of legendary games and players but it also talks about his shortcomings and his personal struggles. If you are a hoops fan and love the history of the game, this is a must-read.
    legend in sports history!!!
Erving talks about some odd contract moves in his career. He talked about when he tried to jump from the ABA to the NBA's Atlanta Hawks at one point, even though he hadn't been drafted yet. Those who only remember Erving from his Philadelphia days probably will get the most enjoyment out of his autobiography, "Dr. J."
Phenomenal book! One of the best sports autobiographies ever!
Julius Erving has a uniquely American story - the underdog driven by a great work ethic and an ability to see and do things on the court never before imagined.
This book tells the whole story and is wonderfully written and narrated.
Buy it and listen and you follow the Doc in his flight from Hempstead to Amherst to Norfolk and on to Philadelphia and beyond.
    Insightful!
Unflinchingly honest and derailed account of the coolest if all the superstars. The Dr is still the man.
    The Most transparent autobiography!
Dr J has been has to be the best autobiography I have read. He tells it all.
He doesn't hide anything about his life. Both the good and the bad are shared with us.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 10 mins

    Publisher: Penguin Books Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 84 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Jennifer Saunders' comic creations have brought joy to millions. From Comic Strip to Comic Relief, from Bolly-swilling Edina in Ab Fab to her takes on Madonna or Mamma Mia, her characters are household names. But it's Jennifer herself who has a place in all our hearts. This is her funny, moving, and frankly bonkers memoir, filled with laughter, friends, and occasional heartache - but never misery.
Bonkers is full of riotous adventures: accidentally enrolling on a teacher training course with a young Dawn French, bluffing her way to each BBC series, shooting Lulu, trading wild faxes with Joanna Lumley, touring India with Ruby Wax and Goldie Hawn. There's cancer, too, when she becomes 'Brave Jen'. But her biggest battle is with the bane of her life: the Laws of Procrastination. As she admits, "There has never been a Plan. Everything has been fairly random, happened by accident or just fallen into place. I'm off now, to do some sweeping..." Prepare to chuckle, whoop, and go bonkers.

    Brilliant!
Where does Bonkers rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
A great listen, one of the best.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bonkers?
When Jennifer reads the faxes sent from Joanna Lumley. I honestly cried laughing.
What about Jennifer Saunderss performance did you like?
This book was made brilliant by Jennifer being the narrator. Her style of delivery would have been lost if I'd just read the book. Her ability to put the character rightin your ears was marvellous.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Made me laugh A LOT. I also wept a tear or two when she recounted her experiences with breast cancer. It was obvious that despite her "putting a brave face on it" that it was a horrid time for her but she came through with love and laughter.
    Any additional comments?
This book will cheer you. I ended up driving 800 kilometres over two days so that I could listen to this book. I had a marvellous time....thank you Ms Saunders!
    Lovely and from the heart
A very easy informative and entertaining memoir. Loved it from one of our British comedy greats.
    Funny and real
Jennifer Saunders is a great comedian and she brings that same spirit and comedy to her own life. Absolutely random, absolutely hilarious, absolutely fabulous!
    Wonderful
Really enjoyed this, I have always been a fan of anything Jennifer Saunders is in and was not disappointed.
Just makes me love her more and looking forward to seeing her future projects!
Reminded me I needed to stop and laugh more often.

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
"From kicking a ball as a kid under the street lamps of Poplar and standing on Highbury's North Bank with my dad, to my first game at West Ham, I was born head over heels in love with football. It saved me, and 50 years on that hasn't changed one bit - I'd be lost without it"
Harry is the manager who has seen it all - from from a dismal 70s Portakabin at Oxford City and training pitches with trees in the middle to the unbeatable highs of the Premiership, lifting the FA Cup and taking on Real Madrid in the Champions League. With his much loved, no-nonsense delivery, Harry brings us a story filled with passion and humour that takes you right inside every drama of his career. Harry finally tells the full story of all the controversial ups and downs - the pain and heartache of his court case, the England job, his love for Bobby Moore, his adventures at Portsmouth with Milan Mandaric, the Southampton debacle, Tottenham and Daniel Levy, and not forgetting his years at West Ham or the challenges at his current club QPR.
Its the epic journey of one of the great managers and, along the way, the story of the British game itself over the last five decades. In an era now dominated by foreign coaches Harry is the last of an old-fashioned breed of English football man - one who has managed to move with the times and always come out fighting.

Would you consider the audio edition of Always Managing to be better than the print version?
Yes. It sounded like Harry was talking to us
What was one of the most memorable moments of Always Managing?
His account of an argument with the then Portsmouth Manager
What about David Johns performance did you like?
He made me think that it was the Author that was reading it
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were lots of instances when I would laugh out loud. Harry is a real racounteur
    Any additional comments?
A great insight into the life of a football manager.
    Most enjoyable
Would you listen to Always Managing again? Why?
For the finer details, to hear what I missed
Have you listened to any of David Johns other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I have not listened to any before however, David Johns made a great narrator and it certainly helped turn around my disappointed Harry Redknapp did not narrate himself. At times just maybe, just maybe, you could pretend with David's narration it was Harry speaking
    Any additional comments?
A very enjoyable memoir of a man I certainly admire for a no nonsense but honest account of himself.
    Fantasticly written & narrated
What made the experience of listening to Always Managing the most enjoyable?
Absolute pleasure, as 'Arry would say (different class). I was begining to lose interest in Audio Books, I havent had a good listen in my last few picks. This is just Brilliant. You can count on Harry to tell it as it is. I was dissapointed for about 30 seconds that it wasnt narrated by Harry himself but the narration is incredible, it felt like listening to the old man himself.

    Title: Running
    Subtitle: The Autobiography
    Author: Ronnie O'Sullivan
    Narrator: David John
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-04-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 14 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
World snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan's first-volume autobiography Ronnie was a major best seller, acclaimed for its candour and insight into the life of a top sports star. In his second book, Ronnie reflects on how much of his life has been running away or running towards (often inadvisable) things.
Running is my drug. To be honest, drugs (and alcohol) used to be my drug, but now I've got the healthiest addiction going. Running is what has helped me fight my demons, win five world snooker championships, and cope with all the crap life's thrown at me.
They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and in this book I look at everything that hasn't killed me, but has had a good go - my addictive personality, depression, my dad's murder conviction, the painful break-up with the mother of my children, the difficulty of balancing family life with that of a sportsman.
Those are the downers. But it's also about the great things in my life - my kids, snooker, my dad's release from prison, great mates who have helped me, and the psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters who has taught me how not to run away from life when it gets tricky.
For the first time, I explain some of my madder moments - why I walked out in the middle of a match against Stephen Hendry, why I sat with a wet cloth over my face in a match against Mark King. This is a book about what it takes to be a champion - the sacrifices you have to make, the obsessive practice, the selfishness. Finally, it's a book about what it's like to get the buzz; and I hope anybody who's ever got the running buzz will relate to this.
Since turning professional in 1992, Ronnie O'Sullivan has clocked up an incredible number of awards and trophies, including the Embassy World Championship, the China Open, the Regal Championships, the Benson & Hedges Masters, and the British Open. In May 2012 he won the World Championship and announced his retirement. He then returned in May 2013, having not played for a year, to win the World Championship for a fifth time.

We need more books like this!
I was surprised to find Ronnie OSullivans autobiography was titled RUNNING, but having recently discovered Ronnie and the world of snooker, and being a runner myself, I thought Id give it a try. I am so glad I did! I wish more celebrities who happen to be runners would write about their experiences and what running means in their lives. This is a great look at what motivates Ronnie and helps him get through the hard times and good times. It was well performed and very much enjoyed!
    Runners be warned
Ronnie will take you much further than simply running. He'll make you think of what the sport means to you and how much it can give and take from your life.
It's a great honest and candid story.
very enjoyable for fans of the Rocket.
Where does Running rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
A brutally honest memoir of talent, addiction, and recovery from one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time. As a shy 19-year-old, Dwight Gooden swept into New York, lifting a team of crazy characters to World Series greatness and giving a beleaguered city a reason to believe. Then he threw it all away.
Now, with fresh and sober eyes, the Mets beloved Dr. K shares the intimate details of his life and career, revealing all the extraordinary highs and lows: The hidden traumas in his close-knit Tampa family. The thrill and pressure of being a young baseball phenom in New York. The raucous days and nights with the Mets bad boys (and the real reason he missed the 1986 World Series victory parade). The self-destructive drug binges and the three World Series rings. His heartbreaking attempts at getting sober, the senseless damage to family and friends, and the unexpected way he finally saved his life - on VH1s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. In Doc, Gooden details his close friendships with many of baseballs greats: Pete Rose, George Steinbrenner, Joe Torre, and nephew Gary Sheffield. For the first time ever, he reveals the full story of his troubled relationship with fellow Mets superstar Darryl Strawberry. And he tells the moving story of the Yankees no-hitter he pitched for his dying father. Doc is a riveting baseball memoir by one of the games most fascinating figures and an inspiring story for anyone who has faced tough challenges in life.
    Members Reviews:
    Very powerful story
I picked this up because I like to listen to memoirs occasionally. Wow, this one blew my mind. The story digs deep into the life of an addict. It is a wake-up call to anyone who have given drugs even a tiny thought. Absolutely a wonderful listen.
    ...Doctor K, delivers another strike
Doc is a refreshing look at the life of one of the greatest young pitchers of all time. I remember his rookie year, the World Series year and I remember the struggles with drugs. I am thankful he took an honest look at himself and presented it in a way that may help others become honest with themselves. Having worked in Substance Abuse Treatment I appreciate how he finally realized that being open and honest made life better. After all, "If you hide nothing, you have nothing to hide."
Doc of Ks and living life one day at a time
A truly tragic yet inspiring story of a young man with insane skills on the baseball diamond who has fought his entire life with the demons of addiction to drugs and alcohol. The shattered lives he left in his wake as he sunk deeper and deeper into self destruction was tragic but thankfully he never hit bottom which to Doc is the grave. Here's to Doc as he continues his struggle to slay his demons every day one day at a time.
    Good narrator... adequate book
Terrifying story of extreme talent wasted. Very typical for the 1980's. Sad and yet triumphant in the end. All and all a good story with excellent narration. I will look for more books from this narrator. I wish the best for "Doc" and his children.
    Really enjoyed
    Great insights into personal struggle.
Gave me a great idea of what it was like for Doc during the glory days.

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
The true story that inspired the Sofia Coppola film.
Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson: robbed. More than $3 million in stolen clothing, jewelry, shoes, and handbags reported missing. Who is behind one of the most brazen string of crimes in recent Hollywood history? Meet the Bling Ring: a band of club-hopping teenagers from the Valley with everything to lose.
Over the course of a year, the members of the now infamous Bling Ring allegedly burglarized some of the biggest names in young Hollywood. Driven by celebrity worship, vanity, and the desire to look and dress like the rich and famous, these seven teenagers made headlines for using Google maps, Facebook, and TMZ to track the comings and goings of their targets. Many of the houses were unlocked. Alarms disabled. A "perfect" crime - celebrities already had so much, why shouldn't the Bling Ring take their share?
As the unprecedented case unfolded in the news, the world asked: How did our obsession with celebrities get so out of hand? Why would a group of teens who already had so much, take such a risk?
Acclaimed Vanity Fair writer Nancy Jo Sales found the answer: they did it because each stolen T-shirt or watch brought them closer to living the Hollywood dream... and because it was terrifyingly easy. For the Bling Ring the motivation was something deeper than money - they were compelled by a compulsion to be famous. Gaining unprecedented access to the group of teens, Sales traces the crimes minute by minute and details the key players' stories in a shocking look at the seedy, and troubling, world of the real young Hollywood.
    Members Reviews:
Facinating Account of American Culture Gone Wrong
    Any additional comments?
Mrs Sales did an outstanding job of exposing a twisted, American sub-culture. I was expecting the book to be a superficial account of ditwits and their antics. However, it proved to be an in-depth account of ditwits and their antics. It was a absolutely facinating read, full of insights and examples of how our society helped create these lost souls.
    Fascinating listen
Even if you have been over saturated by this "made for tv" real life drama about a group of kids from the Valley burglarizing some of Hollywood's elite, there is something for you in this book. Instead of regurgitating everything that's already known about this case, the author goes deeper and backs up the facts with a psychological study about narcissism in today's society, and does it in a way that's entertaining and engaging. I highly recommend this one!
    Interesting
Good book, author's east coast accent tends to be somewhat distracting at times, but otherwise good listen
    Reality reading brought to life.
Would you listen to The Bling Ring again? Why?
I would not listen to the story again because I typically don't read/listen to a book or watch a movie or television show more than once.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot definitely kept my interest throughout the book. There was the plot itself but there was also the connection to society on a whole.
