Miss Philpott has the time of her life!

This is a new series by Alicia Cameron and I hope she writes lots more stories about Francine's clients and her employees. Francine is a young lady with many unusual talents. She was born in poverty in the London slums but managed to pull herself out of that situation with the help of some perhaps a little bit shady group of friends. The life skills she learned serve her well in her new business of researching the backgrounds of potential marriage candidates for wealthy clients. It might be parents who want to be sure their wealthy daughter isn't being lead into marriage with a charming fortune hunter, or maybe a wealthy widow who wants to be sure she isn't falling for a man who will leave her in the country and spend all of his time with his friends and maybe a mistress in London. Francine has a knack of choosing employees who have the skills to gather the information her clients request. Maybe they can fit in with the servants of a family and learn if their employer is kind to them, or maybe where he/she shops so another employee might learn if the candidate pays his/hers bills or is dunn territory. It is a unique service Miss Francine offers and it is fun to read about the adventures her employees have while trying to maintain their masquerade.

In this book the main employee is Miss Philpott, a shy retiring governess who has lost her job without references. She is near starvation when Miss Francine recognises her and takes her to lunch to discuss a job possibility. Miss Philpott is expecting a job as a governess and is shocked when Miss Francine explains what is required of her. When Miss Francine gets done with her no one would recognise Mathilde, the stylish lady with a French accent who is prepared to be a ladies maid to the mother of a potential husband for the daughter of a wealthy set of parents. Whatever she discovers may decide the future happiness of the potential bride and her family.

This was such a fun read it seemed like time flew by when I was reading it. I'm not sure if it was a short book or if it just seemed that way. I was enjoying it so much it surprised me when the book ended.

Best one yet!

In my humble opinion, this is the best one yet! I have been following this series since the first one, Folly. I have loved every one and this one tops them all. But do not fear, dear reader if you have not been following this series. The author provides enough background that this can be read as a stand-alone. If you have never read Sabrina York, and like historical novels, this would be a great place to become acquainted with her work. You wonât be disappointed.

I love what Ms York did with her characters in this. We have our hero Ned, who is your basic second son of the era â living off of his older brother, pretty much good for nothing, spending money he doesnât have, partying with his cronies, kind of following in his older brotherâs (The Dark Duke) shoes. He seems likable enough, but has no direction other than to have fun. His brother has decided Ned needs seasoning so is sending him to the continent for a Grand Tour.

Then there is the heroine, Sophia. Little sister to The McCloud. (Brigand) Now if you believe her brother, she is your basic society debutante groomed to marry well. In fact the story opens with them arguing about whether or not she is going to marry a prince. Sophia wants love and passion like what she sees her brother and his wife have, not just some well titled nabob from who knows where that she hardly knows, let alone likes. AND she wants some adventure. When her brother insists that she marry a man of his choosing, Sophia decides it is time to find some adventure.

What was so very fun about this book was who, exactly, seduced whom in this rollercoaster of a romp. It wasnât the rake in the making. âBut he was a strong man. And he was an honorable man. And he was a stubborn man. And her brother was very large. So Ned banished his lust. Wiped it completely from his mind, focusing on a horse heâd seen at Tattersallâs and the price of tea in India and the lineage of the English kings.â Oh no. It was the very curious, and not so innocent Sophia. âSophia grinned down at Ned, taking in the ecstasy on his beautiful face, the shudders and the cries as she pleasured him. She pleasured him.â This role reversal was unexpected and ingenuous! It made me grin and cheer. And the author did it so well that it really worked â even in this historical novel where young women of society were not supposed to know such things let alone do them.

That is just the romance part of the book.

I liked this one. It had a lot of twists!

I've enjoyed each of these books, and I will now look for Book #11, which hopefully will be about Sasha and Ben. I am now used to the narrator's voice and thought he does a nice job remembering each of the voices. I can tell whose voice it is now without having to be told, and it seems as though that would be hard for him to do each voice differently, but the same in each book. I was NOT paid or given a free book to do a review. I stumbled onto them and love them. You will too!

What would have made Theodora better?

the author kept repeating several things1hero has 8 siblings and it is so hard to deal with them( I thought women do it all the time, what's your problem). 2 he doesn't want to marryheroine doesn't want to mary, she wants to make maps ( at one point I bet with myself how long it would take into the chapter for the word "map" or topical map to appear...not too long!4 The girls could ruin their reputations and therefore not marry well ( even though all the girls have other plans)Every chapter has the same elements, so nothing new. It could have been a short story

nothing by this author. The story was very boring, even though the premis is good.

Would you be willing to try another one of Virginia Fergusons performances?

No, I don't think her male voices were good. Especially a story that had such a weak hero.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Theodora?

Cut all the repeated theems. There was really no interaction between the h/h. I have 3 hours to go and still can't figure why they like each other. I was a former archer, but just hitting the target never inspired such strong feelings in the men around me...or I was doing it wrong!

Any additional comments?

A real disappointment. I was looking forward to this book and doubt I can finish. I fell asleep and woke up several chapters later, but it was the same thing..the hero moaning about having to look after his siblings. I thought I jumped back chapters in my sleep, but no, it was a new chapter, just not a new idea.

Excellent

Loved it! A continuous story from the first two books. You would not have too but you have a more understanding of the characters and story line if you start with The Handfasting. Main characters are Angus the Reah and Alissa, mistress of the Keep. Though not married, the love only each other. A Gus feels he does not deserve Alissa but does whatever he can to keep her at the Keep in his life. Alissa is wanting to marry preferably Angus but if he doesn't, she will find someone. Desperate to have a family of her own. In this story you have laughter,sorrow, excitement and suspense! I'm hoping there will be continuous in the storyline for there are many more interesting characters and situations to carry it on! Excellent story!!

The Reah - book 3

This is the third book in - The Handfasting Series. Becca St. John continues to weave her magic words in the world of the Highlands of Scotland. We have another story of Scotland during the 1200's AD. Previous characters from the series are interspersed iwithin this saga as the ancient Highlands show the love, trials, and heartaches that were always within the day to day norms.

If you loved the previous books, you will not be disappointed with this third installment!

Must read....this book will keep up guessing until the end....great love story that shows love comes from the heart not the eyes....I would suggest to read this series in order...but none will disappoint....one of my favorite series..... Go get all 3.....

Cole lost his first wife and son a few years ago. This has made him stronger, yet he guards his heart. The Constable has been killed and the town is now looking to Cole to fill the spot and find the murderer.

Abigail has traveled to Hunter's Grove to marry its Constable only to find that he has been murdered. She is a sassy, headstrong woman and the opposite of Cole's first wife. Abigal is bound and determined to find her fiance's killer with or without Cole's help. Cole just wants her to go away.

Cole and Abigail find that by joining forces, even if it becomes one of the greatest challenges in their lives is better than trying to find the killer on their own. Can these two who long to be loved set aside their personal struggles and find strength in one another?

Mail Order Vixen was a great second book for the Kansas Brides Series. Though I did not like Reagan Boggs as much as Meghan who narrated the first book, the story was wonderful and even fun. Barb is a great story teller and I am looking forward to book three!

No, there are too many other books I want to listen to. This one was very good though and anyone who listens to it will enjoy it. It is a clean Christian romance western.

That Cole was willing to listen and accept help even though it was from a woman. also that Cole was willing to say I'm sorry and try to explain when it looked as if he did wrong

Which character as performed by Reagan Boggs was your favorite?

I liked all of them.

Vixen or shrew? Loved the heroine!

Another great read from Barb Goss! I enjoy the integrity and strength of character her heroines display even in the face of tough times.

Abigail arrives in town, expecting to meet her future husband, instead she learns that he was shoot and killed in town just prior to her arrival. She handles herself with dignity and integrity as she makes decisions about her future and works to find the murderer of the man she fell in love with through his letters. She works with the newly-sworn-in Sheriff, Cole, to investigate the murder. Cole is not sure that he wants to associate too closely with a woman who speaks her mind so often. He considers Abigaril a bit shrewish and sharp-tongued, especially when compared to his first wife who was docile, soft and steady.

Decent Story and Narration

So this was decent. Not boring, not exciting. I really liked Miranda. She had spunk. The Duke of Wyldehaven was okay for the most part, sometimes he was annoying. The attraction was okay at best.

There were some twists and turns that were fun, albeit a bit ridiculous and could no way happen, but this is fiction so it is expected.

As for the narration, it was okay. The narrator needs to work on the male voices a bit. Otherwise, it wasn't the worst narration I have listened too.

This was included in my ARP (audible romance program) Subscription so it was worth it.

The heroine is seeped in Native American culture and myth, but must flee to the Highlands of Scotland to save her life from a hideous threat. This book can be a stand alone or you can read it with the other two books of this series. Ms. Musgrave is a young developing talent with a future in the Supernatural romance genre.

I like this book! I loved how sweet Tala is and how strong she is. I could never imagine going through the things she has went through. This book is was my favorite of the Immortal series. Get it now!!
