I enjoyed the book but.

I couldn't get over the premise that he was going to sleep with that woman even though he loved his wife. Did he kiss her? Touch her? It never said but he smelled of her perfume so they had to have come into contact with each other. I don't think he did but I really wish it had said so. Other than that big spoiler I enjoyed the book very much. I liked the other characters as well and I couldn't go to sleep until I finished it. I took one star away because of the other woman and even if it was his job as a spy to do it I just couldn't buy into it. His poor wife suffered all the gossip and rumours and it just made me mad. I hated that premise. I will read another of her books though. It kept me intrigued and it was written well in my opinion. I just hope he never touched her or anything. Please.

I enjoyed reading Two Weeks With a Stranger. Simon Severton,

Earl of Devingham is in need of a wife. Lucy is the daughter

of a local squire and when Simon asked her to marry him she

agrees. After their sensual wedding night, while Lucy was

asleep, Simon was summoned by his superior back to London

leaving her in their country estate. He didn't tell Lucy he's

a British spy. The next morning when Lucy awakens to find

a note from Simon, announcing his return to London. After

several months Lucy decided to leave for London to be with

her husband. She thinks her husband is having an affair.

I liked the secondary characters. Gin an American and

Foxworth (spy) have a chance with their story. I thought,

they were a great match, even though, they were disagreeing

on everything. There were times, I thought, it was hilarious,

when Gin tells Foxworth she wanted to be a British spy.

Two Weeks With a Stranger was a delightful read. Full of

intrigue. Never a dull moment with Lucy and Gin.

I highly recommend..

Great book, can't wait for the story about her American friend. :)

Not bad

To me, this was a little slow moving. There was so much plot and not enough of how they fell in love and the relationship developing between them. It was a decent read with a little mystery, but I ended up wanting to know more about the interesting side characters than the main couple.

Started off strong, but fizzled at the end

The new Countess of Devingham is looking forward to life with her husband. Lucy is the daughter of a squire and when the Earl of Devingham asks her to marry him, she agrees. She knows Simon as a bookish man who grows roses.

So-So

I love a good clean romance, and though this is quite clean (but for a handful of cuss words) I would have enjoyed a little more plot. The characters were good, I enjoyed their interaction but I felt it was lacking in adventure and movement. For me there was too much history and description of locations, when my favorite thing to read is clever repartee'. I might try another if her books just to see if it's any different/better.

Beautiful story of falling in love while traveling in Spain

I love travel stories and Ms. Knightley did a beautiful job of describing several tourist sites in Seville, Spain. She made me want to travel there!

Libby is visiting Seville with her friend Amelia and her husband, Viscount Winters. Libby speaks several languages and comes to the aid of Philip and his brother Nigel. Philip is really the Duke of Gillingham, but is traveling incognito in an attempt to remove his brother from the bad influences of his life in London. Libby and Philip immediately feel a connection and have the opportunity to get to know each other over the next several weeks. Libby is intelligent, spirited and beautiful. Philip is caring, handsome and confident.

For a novella, this book does a surprisingly great job of character development for Libby, Philip and even Nigel. I felt like I got to know them and just enough about their past and their dreams for the future to understand their motivations. It also helped that I perfectly agreed with the sentiments the author assigned to the characters, like: "if we had everything we want in life, then what would be left to strive for" and "sometimes a person has to make mistakes for himself before a lesson can sink in" and others I won't spoil by quoting.

Just when you think the relationship is on the fast track to a HEA, there's a twist in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the resolution and didn't want to stop reading until I found out how it worked out.

Dreaming in Egypt

What did you love best about Dreaming in Egypt?

I really liked this audiobook. It was so interesting to listen to what life was like back then. Egypt has always been and always will be an area of great interest . I loved how the story was in Asenath's POV andI enjoyed listening about her life.

Fabulous!

A beautiful story of Asenath and Joseph, who made a great contribution to Egypt when it suffered through a well document drought. This story brought his wife Asenath to life through her thoughts, dreams and finding God. The authors' knowledge of Ancient Egypt and of the bible mad it worth the listening tom plus that she narrated it herself made it even better since she knew by heart the feelings and emotions of each of the characters in her novel. This novel is a must read or listen to, whichever is your preference.

Interesting listen

I have always been intrigued by ancient Egyptian things. This book was very interesting and the imagery good. I found the premise of the book enjoyable. I have not listened to many books where the author and narrator are one in the same. I think Maria Isabel Pita is very talented. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.

There is a mix of fact, fantasy and some decent into the area of conscious or lucid dreaming. It was all blended in a wonderful way so never felt like a rough shift or a point was being made, just an easy too and fro that added depth to the work

This story of Asenath and Joseph of the Bible was well written. Told from the view point of Asenath, I found this story to be very well told and I kept finding myself going back to the Bible to confirm some historical events that the author would bring up, and they were all accurate.

Determination

Lack of communication can put huge stumbling blocks in your path. Add stubbornness to the mix and all kinds of evil can befall you.

This story wasn't what I was expecting, and was a much better read than the intro lead me to expect, especially since I dislike war stories. Man's cruelty to man is always disheartening.

A 4.5 Read

As with book 1 of this series, book 2 delves even deeper into the personalities Linley and Patrick. The new circumstances of their relationship will either bring them together or tear them apart. The difficulties they face are the same that are being addressed to this day.

This book is so well written that I felt like a fly on the wall, but because it is so intimate, I felt like a fly who should not be spying on this couple.

I look forward to the next book.

Archaeology comes and goes.

Continuation of but not quite as captivating as book one. The characters are sad and so then seems that the book is. :(. Still good to see that they appear real after all. Life does go forward happy or sad. Good read

I expected some more adventures treasure hunting/egyptian finds, it did give insight to the horrors of war and the after effects. But this book seemed to focus more and more on the sexual disfunctions of both parties that eventually lead to them leading a normal life, but way too grafic for me.

This truly has a LOT going on throughout the whole of this story from beginning right through to its end.

Good book!

Magnificent

I have not read very many MM romances which take place in Colonial America, but the ones I have read are very good indeed--but this one shoots right to the top of the charts and I cannot imagine how it's been hidden because it's magnificent.

The reason is very simple: There are no two characters more utterly unsuited for each other, nor as fated to be together, as Michael St. James and Daniel Calhoun. And though it appears at the start that we have Michael as the protagonist and key to the tale, it is Daniel Calhoun who is the story here and the hero every step of the way.

Their tale is aided and abetted by some very real and well-drawn sub characters, but the plot and the personalities of these two men will drive you crazy.

You will not be able to put this one aside, so let it be started at a time when you will have some time--it's a fast, furious, read full of angst, bitterness, hope, love, and some of the most magnificent love scenes in any historical gay-for-you novel you will encounter.

You will never forget these two, and as much as you will like and sympathize with Michael St. James, I am willing to bet you will truly love and never forget Daniel Calhoun.

SPOILER ALERT: This is the single worst cover I have ever seen. why not put the men on the cover instead of someone's cheeky idea of luring you in with an instrument that plays a minor, though somewhat hilarious, role in the story? Also, it is formatted poorly for Kindle--there are no breaks on the pages between chapters--the chapter headings follow the last paragraph of the previous chapter. And only "time left in the book" appears on the bottom left, not "time left in chapter." But it's a fast read anyway.

I loved this story. It combined time travel with an inspirational love story. well done!

Delightful time travel adventure

I learned so much about the conditions of the people during the World War II with the rationing, bombing and uncertainty that they faced every day. The heroine travels back in time and endures the trials of the war as she discovers the secret that keeps her family in turmoil.

Would you consider the audio edition of War of the Heart to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the print version of the book but the audio edition really brought the story to life.

The narrator did a wonderful job with the different accents.

What did you like best about this story?

My favorite scene in the book is Christmas Eve in the underground tube in 1940. Wearing their siren suits and gas masks at the ready, the spirit of Christmas is still there. Parents reassuring children that Father Christmas will find them there. The Christmas songs played on accordions. It is also where Louise tells George her whole story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

One moment that particularly moved me was when Louise and George revealed the truth to Piers, reminding him of the speech given by the King on Christmas day. I can't give details because it would give away an important part of the story.

I also loved how the author wove prayer throughout the whole story. I was very satisfied with the ending. I highly recommend War of the Heart!

Good but Sloppy

I would have given this book four stars easily; it was well written and fascinating as I always enjoy Barbara Wood's books. Unfortunately, the editing on this book was atrocious - there were spelling and grammatical mistakes throughout - and I believe that at least one star should be withheld because of this sloppiness.

I'm not sure how eBooks are handled but this is far too often the case where it was much less often a problem when I have read books on paper. This book though, was especially careless, so much so that my enjoyment was severally diminished by this.

Thrilling book that will keep you enthralled!

Barbara Wood is an amazing author. I didn't think I would ever love a book as much as I have her work of "Domina." This book is a close second. The heroine Hannah is a character that you won't want to leave behind. She sails to Australia in a reaction to the horrible examples of doctors in England who ruin her father by blaming him for the death of a Lady when in fact it was their own act of bleeding that caused her death. She knows as a woman she will never be accepted as a midwife much less a doctor which she has been trained to do. Hannah finds not only love, but a rip roaring adventure. Slowly she is able to win peoples trust and do the work of a healer which she is trained to do. There are very interesting details about the Aborigines and their culture, mining opals and the harshness of the outback which in its own way is beautiful. You will love this book.

Expected More

This was my first novel by Barbara Wood. I bought it after seeing the five-star reviews and the price for the hard cover version and I probably expected more than I should had. I am just slightly dissapointed. I finished the book and I kind of liked it. On the other hand the story was little too linear and the chracters bit one-dimensional - either realy good or evil, well with one nice exeption anyway. The book has very grandmotherly feel to it with everything falling to the right place at the right time and with carefully controled political correctness. I liked very much the setting of the story and the early medical issues. There was an occasional editing problem but nothing major or too distracting.

First I should say I was fortunate enough to receive a free copy of the audio book by Kate Rothwell and narrated. By Annie Aldinton. Ms. Aldinton gave a 5 star performance by fully bringing Ms. Rothwell's characters to life! I admitted that this book was a first for me as far as reading Ms. Rothwell's work and also by listening to books narrated by Ms. Aldinton. This story was a fast paced adventure with unexpected twists and turns landing it in a delightful recency style romance! The characters were well developed and had depth to their personalities. The plot held my interest and was unique to my past experiences. Personally, I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more works by Ms. Rothwell and listening to more audio books narrated by the talented Ms. Aldinton. Easy to recommend this delightful audio book for all my friends.

Charming historical!

What made the experience of listening to The Earl, a Girl, & a Promise the most enjoyable?

What a lovely audio book this was. The cover attracted me, but I was soon pulled into a wonderful story with a charming hero and strong heroine. I really enjoyed the narrator's voice as well. If you love Victorian era romance with clever wit and a good plot, this is the book for you. I've read a few of the author's books and loved them, but this is the first time I tried an audio book, and I'm sure it won't be my last. Great job by all involved!

I Loved it

I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my review. This is a beautiful western romance. It is a full story but left me wanting to get the next in the series. Sam and Laura's story. The story went from past to present and all in between but was easy to follow. I could feel all of the emotions that Sam was feeling and the narrator was just perfect for the book. I especially liked the scene between Sam and his mother. then the letter he wrote to apologize for his behavior. the ending was very well done. although the story did not fully end it was complete. Not a strong cliffhanger but one anyway.

A good post civil war novel, Lots of strong characters good & bad. A very good plot well edited and very well written and crafted.

Narration is excellent and draws you into the characters and story.

That's where we find Sam in post-civil-war New Mexico, where he has signed on as the marshal of a small town. The shield of bitterness he has erected around him ensures that his relations with members of the community are perfunctory and superficial--just the way Sam likes it.

But things change dramatically for Sam when he encounters Laura. She's married to a disabled veteran who credits her with saving him from himself.

Great Love story
