    Sad story made me cry
I struggled to finish this but I never give up on a book.
This was not really the kind of book I like--I prefer happy stories.
    Ruth. You don't deserve Heck!
Narration - Tanya Mills - Really Good! She does such great character voices! Great Story Teller!
    Now...for the book! Grrrrr.
First! Ruth, you spoiled little brat! You don't deserve Heck! Oh, and I might be a little bit in love with Heck BTW.
This is set in the depression in a pretty backward part of the country. Utilities are sketchy at best. Ruth is from the City and comes to this town with her husband (who she doesn't love)
She's beautiful and refined and catches everyone's eye.
Heck is a sweet man, a hard workin' cowboy and is attracted to Ruth from the first time they meet. The attraction grows with each and every subsequent encounter. He rescues her from her abusive husband and they head to another part of the country to await her divorce. Their relationship is a bit scandalous and one of the undertones of this story revolves around Heck's concerns about their unseemly relationship and what price they must pay for their sins.
The characters in this story are so richly developed and this book seems to bring to life what I imagine it was like living during the depression.
I'm extremely miffed with the ending. And what makes me even more miffed is the fact that I absolutely can't say anything about it because you just have to experience it yourself. It's not a bad ending, just not the one I saw coming or hoped for.
Who will like this? I think if you enjoy historical romances or old western style cowboys, you'll enjoy it. But those aren't particularly my top genre's and I loved it.
    That's all.

    Emotionally Wrenching
Liz Adair, in a word, is a master storyteller. She has a way of ripping your heart out of your chest, and then shoving in back in, a little mangled, but also a little wiser than before. As I went through this story, I honestly began to dislike the characters, and I wasn't sure how I would feel by the end. But by the end, I was able to feel compassion for them. Not that I excused their imperfections or their faulty choices, but I was able to see their humanity, and their inherent worth as people. And that, thanks to Liz Adair's amazing skill.
This was a beautiful story, with a beautiful message.
    Live hard, love hard
What did you love best about Interlude at Cottonwood Springs?
I really liked Heck's character. The author did really well with developing the story. It reminds the reader of how difficult life could be during the depression and in particular the setting of the story. Historical events were sprinkled throughout the story. I would have liked to see more character development, especially Ruth's character. I was also left wondering why Ruth and Heck fell in love.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Interlude at Cottonwood Springs?
The ending was difficult but a part that stays with you after you finish the book.

Sweet Clean Love Story turns into something different!
I loved the first book in this series, so much so that I quickly purchased the second one. Sadly after a few chapters I realized this was a lot different than the first book. There was a lot of foul language and some sexual content. It just felt like a completely different story. I ended up finishing the book with hopes that it would redeem itself. Sadly, it just left me disappointed. A sweet love story that could have been read by all turned into a story I wouldn't want my daughter to read. I love this author's writing style. The first book had me hooked, but the second book just took a turn I couldn't appreciate.
This was such a great follow up to Banished Love
This was such a great follow up to Banished Love! I loved getting able to get to know all the characters from the first book better, and most of all, I loved getting to hate Cameron more than before!
I struggle sometimes, when authors introduce a lot of new characters at once, because it's sometimes hard for me to see where they fit into the long term plot of the story, so I was a little bit nervous when I first met all Gabriel's new companions in Butte, however, I learned quickly that Ms. Flightner doesn't introduce characters who do not have some type of long term addition to make to the plot of the series.
I did find myself getting extremely exasperated with Clarissa at some points in this book, for her complete and utter inability to be honest with Gabriel about what happened with Cameron in Boston, but I tried really hard to tell myself, "It's just the time, that's how things were", but I did have issues reconciling the very forward thinking suffragette mind of Clarissa who just last book was having unchaperoned rendezvous with Gabriel, to the Clarissa of this book who would take a train across the country and then wander through a state with Colin to find Gabriel, but then be unable to be honest with him about that experience with Cameron.
That being said, I enjoyed Reclaimed Love more than Banished Love, and I was very happy to get to follow this cast of characters further into their lives, and I can't wait to see how the stories continue to develop.
A well done and realistic romance
I am treating this review as part two as it is the second book in the series and the conclusion to Gabe and Clarissa's story. I have a love/hate relationship with their story.

    Awful narration
I did not even finish this book. The story may have been good but the narrator was terrible. She sounded as if she were robotic and she would go in and out of her British accent. Don't waste your money if you're looking for a good book to listen to. This is not it! I feel sorry for the author just because her book was so slaughtered by the narrator.
    World's Worst Narration!
I had to return this book after slogging through less than an hour. The narrator is SO awful I just couldn't even follow the story with such a dreadful narration. Her reading reminded me of a French student who is struggling to pronounce the foreign words and doesn't have a clue what the meaning of those words is! I really like Miranda Neville's books and I will try reading a printed copy of this one but I just can't stand to listen to this.

    Publisher's Summary:
Thomas, Duke of Castleton, has every intention of wedding a prim and proper heiress. That is until he sets eyes on the heiress' cousin, easily the least proper woman he's ever met. His devotion to family duty is no defense against the redheaded vixen whose greatest asset seems to be a talent for trouble.
Caroline Townsend has no patience for the oh-so-suitable (and boring) men of the town. So when the handsome but stuffy duke arrives at her doorstep, she decides to put him to the test. But her scandalous exploits awaken a desire in Thomas he never knew he had. Suddenly Caroline finds herself falling for this proper duke...while Thomas discovers that there's a great deal of fun in a little bit of wickedness.
    Critic Reviews:
"Neville's characterizations are down to earth: the women are pretty without being ravishing and principled without being irrational, and Thomas is open to expanding his horizons." (Publishers Weekly)

    don't miss this one
I'm a big fan of this author but not all her books are five stars. The best best thing is that the male characters are NOT bored rakes. All her characters are true to life and not based on troupes of the trade. Thank you Miranda for that!
This latest though is well written with characters that grow to love each other even while they face their own insecurities. Both characters stay true to themselves, honor each other and forgive the other's mistakes.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the hero is fabulous. He is dutiful yet decided to marry the heroine in spite extreme pressure to marry for money based on his need to provide for his illegitimate sisters and make up for the mistakes of his father. The heroine is very reckless and finally makes the right decision committing to this man. She is in denial about her late husband and his friends and lets herself get into precarious financial situations. I thought it was very real to life. Fortunately the hero is the kind of person who she can count on. He doesn't judge her and shows his loyalty again and again. He isn't a beta-male; just willing to risk it all for this woman. The heroine is exactly the kind of person to upset his life and give him a chance for joy in life rather than duty. Their happy ending is well deserved!
This is a keeper! Plus, we now get to learn about a group of people obsessed with art. Fun!
Flips the Typical H/h Dynamic on Its Head
Having read - and LOVED - The Duke of Dark Desires (The Wild Quartet Book 4), I was excited to go back to the beginning and better know the fascinating characters who kept popping up.
I really enjoyed this book, particularly because the author flipped the typical hero/heroine dynamic. Caro is a slightly scandalous widow who is loud and charming and not the slightest bit interested in what society thinks of her. I love that. Thomas, a very proper Duke, whom she nicknames Lord Stuffy, is handsome but not dashing, doesn't have a particularly charming way about him, and is way out of his league in the "sexual arts". I love that, too. They were a bit of an odd couple, but so endearing. Given the circumstances of Caro's first marriage, they made perfect sense.
I love when books mention historic works of art; Art History was a favorite subject of mine in university.

Priss has waited six years to be reunited with the man she loves. But her husband believes her guilty of the worst kind of betrayal. And nothing she says or does will convince him that Sir Blake Edmonds isn't her illicit lover. It will take a daring deception - and a scheming minx who has set her cap for Alec - for these two people to realize how much they have lost and how much they could gain if they were to find the courage to turn a sham union into a second chance for happiness.
    Members Reviews:
    Appalling hero.
I've been checking out old Elizabeth Mansfield books that I hadn't read back in the day. Maybe there was a reason I hadn't read this one, although I can't remember. Whatever the case, the hero of this book from 1981 wins the A$$hole of the Year (Decade? Century?) Award easily. Even Mansfield's writing can't save this one. I considered awarding it only one star.
Hero marries heroine very young. It was a marriage encouraged by the family, and our hero at the time was too young, too socially inept, too insecure about himself. He loves the heroine but is not convinced of her love for him and when he finds out that she had had an offer of marriage before his and when he finds her with that man after their wedding, he is convinced, convinced, convinced that she is unfaithful to him and wants to be married to the other man.
Naturally they don't talk about this. He won't listen to a thing she says. (Probably couldn't have heard her anyway, what with his head stuck up his you-know-what.) Just informs his solicitor that he wants the marriage dissolved, whether divorce, annulment, whatever, and he goes off to the Peninsular Wars for 6 years. Comes back thinking the marriage is over, only to find that nothing has been done and they are still married.
He continues to be an intransigent, self-absorbed jerk throughout the book but finally at the end sees the truth and--WTH!--the heroine forgives him.
    Truly atrocious
The "hero" is a real a$$. On the flimsiest of grounds he decides his wife has cheated on him so he refused to talk to her, tells his solicitor to annull the marriage and joins the army (despite being his grandfather's only heir), and stays away for six years. When he gets back he finds out that he's still married but he still refuses to talk to her and instead starts going around with her young, fast, cousin, and sets up a mistress. All his friends tell him he's being an idiot, but he's convinced all women are faithless hobags, with his wife being the worst (still no evidence).
She in the meantime seems to have been standing in the window waiting for his return the entire six years, no lettersâ, no attempt to move on or anything. She only grows a spine when he finally accuses her to her face of still having an affair.

From the moment he saw her glide into the ballroom, Drew was captivated by the ravishing beauty. Finding out she is the widow of the blackguard he killed in a duel puts something of a damper on the evening, especially with all of London calling him a cold-blooded villain. But then she does something far more dangerous: She falls in love with him.

    Absolutely Delightful!
    Any additional comments?
Finally, a Regency romance akin to those of the great Georgette Heyer. Sadly, the author of this book has passed away, but Audible.com listeners are now fortunate in that her work has been recently added to Audible's collection.
This is a charming story, well-timed and well-written with wit and humor. The characters are most engaging, the dialogue is excellent and the narration wonderful.
Some of the so called Regency romances I've listened to lately have been awfully dull with way too many sex scenes, not enough dialogue, modern characters completely out of step with Regency times, and badly in need of a good editor.
    Highly recommended.
I tried to like the story, but...
One review listed this author as a new Georgette Heyer, but I have to disagree. This heroin is so stupid! She continually thinks the worst of the hero, based on one person's report, and disregards the score of opposite reports from trustworthy people. And she still wants to believe the villain's version - even after he has kidnapped her! What!!????
And all the male characters are supposed to be immune to tears, but cave at the first sign of them.
Secondary female admits to being a gossip, but continually pouts and whines when her ability to keep a secret is questioned.
I forced myself to finish, but it wasn't a great read. Very sad, because there was potential here.

    Compelling Regency Mystery (Short Story)
    Any additional comments?
For a short story, this audiobook was outstanding. It actually felt more like a complete story, with well developed characters, a mystery to solve, and a villain. The 27-year old Earl of Edgerton is home visiting his country estate (away from London's fun and frivolity) due to the estate's loss of substantial money in the year since his father's death. As his eyes glaze over looking at the estate's accounting records, the Earl's best friend and neighbor suggests that his bookish sister Miranda look over the estate's ledgers. After all, she's been balancing their estate's accounts for years now. After only one afternoon looking over the books, mysterious accidents start to happen to her or surrounding her. Although I guessed who the villain was from almost the beginning, I really liked the way the author let us know how the hero was feeling - his anxieties and his fears. I also appreciated the descriptions showing how the Earl's affection for Miranda matured. And Hollis McCarthy did a great job narrating. Brava!
The way a 'novella' should be!
Well written... very well. Full of details, real characters so well written you get to know them, a plot deep enough to grab you, and a whodunit easy enough to guess but with enough of a sneak to it to intrigue, and just the right tinge of humor. All the things a good long read should have but skillfully packaged in a smaller box.
NARRATOR : Not a single complaint from me!!! A+ all the way.
CREDITWORTHY? If you're foolish enough not to realize the cost of this book is far less than the credit then go for it... it's still worth it.
I DO recommend buying it, a 100% YES!!!
HEAT FACTOR: C'mon, this tale has everything else!!!! What do you want in a NOVELLA?! I felt emotion and attraction but no, no heat.

    Love Shall Conquer All!
Would you listen to Her Highland Hero again? Why?
    Absolutely.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Her Highland Hero?
I loved when Isobel confronted her father and declared her love for Marcus.
What about Ruth Urquharts performance did you like?
    Everything! Nice tones/accents.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"A love that would not be denied"
    Any additional comments?
This is a fantastic romance book. One of the things I thoroughly enjoyed about this book was the love that Marcus and Isobel had for each other from beginning to end, it was so sweet and sincere despite the odds against them. There was an abundance of adventure and mischief; I found it to be engaging and it held my interest. I listened to this in less than a day. I also highly recommend reading previous books in the series first as it'll give you insight to other characters (and their adventures) from the previous stories.
I look forward to more in this series!!!

    Very weak for Beaton
The story is rather predictable and wildly unbelievable, but what ensured my quitting about Galway through is the DREADFUL narrator. Clearly Ms Dore does not even understand what far too many of the words mean much less how to pronounce them. She clearly doesn't read the book first and look up the words before she records them. I've now given up not only on this book but on any book this woman narrates!
