Length: 7 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English

    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Joan Johnston is back with these two emotional stories.
    The Cowboy Takes a Wife
Desiree Parrish has two weeks to find a man to protect her from her abusive ex-husband. She's never forgotten Carter Prescott's kindness to her, but can she trust him to keep her and her daughter safe now? Though she's offering him a marriage in name only, Carter has one nonnegotiable condition - Desiree will have to share his name and his bed!
    The Unforgiving Bride
From the moment rancher Falcon Whitelaw sees Mara Ainsworth, she's the woman of his dreams - but she belongs to someone else. Then a tragic accident leaves her widowed - and she blames Falcon. But it seems marrying him is the only way to save her daughter's life. Can Falcon convince Mara to forgive him and make this a marriage for real?
    Members Reviews:
    Entertaining..
    THE COWBOY TAKES A WIFE
Lets start by my telling you what an animal Burley was. What he did to Desiree was so horrible. The least that I wanted to happen to him was that he would die. No more prison for him! Dead, thats it.
And, of course, then Desiree just had to have a TSTL moment. I was tempted to quit reading but I was on chapter 8 and there were only 9 chapters in this story. What she did was so stupid I didnt even care if Burley killed her.
The biggest part of this book was spent on Carter gaining her trust so he could make love to her, without her being scared to death. With all that Burley did to her it was no wonder she was scared of every man that walked the earth. Burley was a cold and cruel man, thats for sure. And got exactly what he deserved.
There was really no sexual tension in this story but there was desire, passion, and it was enough to make it nice. There was sex but it wasnt all that descriptive. And there was no swearing.
    THE UNFORGIVING BRIDE
This was an alright story. Mara needed to save her sick daughter and the best way to do that was to go to the man she hated, because of the death of her husband. Well, you know how that went.
Falcon was a neer-do-well who went through the millions, his grandfather left him, in five years time. So, the only way he could help Susannah was with his medical insurance and to do that Mara had to marry him.
Needless to say, their sexual attraction was off the charts, and Mara trying not to have sex with Falcon was impossible.
Anyway, Susannah got better and everything, as usual, worked out. However, the first story was better than this one. It had more excitement in it.
The sex wasnt hot and steamy but it was nice and there wasnt any swearing to speak of.
As to the narration: He was OK, neither good nor bad. He did read without emotion. Honestly, in the time it took me to write this review I cant even remember what he sounded like, thats how unmemorable he was.

    Excellent !
Excellent historical Western Romance! Lots of elements in this story and believable characters. Kept my interest from beginning to end. On to the next book by Anna Schmidt!
    Great story
This is a well written and holds your interest throughout
The characters are believable and reflect the time of the story.
    ARC REVIEW: WOW!
Anna Schmidt bring us the first book in the series Where the Trails Ends. The Drifter is a Historical Western Romance, this is a genre I love but rarely find myself reading, much like steampunk. I grabbed this because of it's genre and the description, I almost didn't because Anna Schmidt other books are not usually books I read, but the description really did catch my attention. I am glad I did because it was really good. I would put it up there in my favorites along with Joan Johnston's Sisters of the Lonestar State series. Anna Schmidt has a beautiful narrative and great characters. The descriptive setting was something else, it really pulled me in and set the scene remarkable well. It takes place at a time where ranchers weren't governed as well as they should have been and the larger ones were swallowing up all the smaller ranches and when they couldn't buy their way they would use any means necessary to obtain the land. It reminded me at certain points of the T.V. movie The Jack Bull, originally a novel written by Heinrich von Kleist. So it's no wonder that I kept imagining a buff John Cusack as Chet.
Maria Potterfield lost her father, her brother ran off with the inheritance and her mother has not been handling the death very well at all. Maria is left with running the ranch, and taking care of her two younger siblings and her mother. Knowing the ins and outs of handling the ranch and it's cattle is easy it's convincing the high handed foreman she knows what she's doing that's the hard part. When he gives her the ultimatum that he'll just quit she doesn't give in and tells him to leave, the very same day a drifter breezes in and asks for a job. That night the herd gets spooked and stampedes, the drifter stays out until every last one is found. Spurring Maria to offer him the foreman job which he turns down.
Chet is running from his past on his way to his dreams of owning his own land in California the stop at the little Arizona ranch was just supposed to be temporary, but the beautiful owner, Maria is just tempting enough to stay. Maria is having more problems than just missing herd and no water, the large rancher next door keeps offering to buy but she say no every time.

    Publisher's Summary:
Destinies unfold. Secrets are revealed. The Isle of Mull will be forever changed.
Half Highlander, half Viking, Garik MacKinnon was not born on the Scottish Isle of Mull, but fostered there in his youth. Now, he leaves behind his home, once more bound for Mull, to join the MacKinnon warriors as they answer Robert the Bruce's call to arms. He is ready for battle, eager to fight for Scotland's freedom. What he is not prepared for is his encounter with Nellore, a shield maiden from Mull, whose allure defies all reason.
Nellore has the strength and skill of a warrior but the heart of a woman. When the men are called away to war Nellore must aid those left behind to safeguard their village against attacks from the MacLeans - a feuding clan to the south. She understands her duty to her clan. She is ready to take up arms against the enemy if need be. What she is not ready for is the ache that fills her heart when war pulls Garik from her side.
Desire ignites and battles are waged as both Nellore and Garik learn what it means to love a warrior.
    Members Reviews:
    A Very Satisfying Story
Lily Baldwin beautifully wraps up the Isle of Mull trilogy in 'To Love A Warrior.' This third book is the story of Nellore, the baby that Bridget found out on the moors. She wants nothing more than to go to war with the warriors of her clan and she can't wait to prove herself. She first meets her brother's friend, Garik, while wielding her bow and arrows against the McLean clan, at 12 years of age. Garik, too, considers himself a warrior and intends to fight alongside Nellore's brother Logan's side to aid Robert the Bruce. He knows within his heart that Nellore will be a fine woman when she gets older, but at 16, Garik is more concerned with fighting for Scotland's new king and is anxious to prove himself in the war. Nellore believes him to be the most beautiful man she's ever laid eyes upon. Upon Garik's return some years later he discovers what a magnificent woman Nellore has become, and is entranced with her. As their feelings toward each other deepen, they learn that Garik and Logan must return to fight for the king. With Garik away fighting and Nellore helping to protect her clan at home, they both learn what it means to be a warrior.
I thoroughly enjoyed this third book in the trilogy. It was very satisfying to read more about Bridget and Ronan (Nellore's grandparents), and Brenna and Duncan (Nellore's parents), and to see how Nellore related with each one. The story took a twist when the clan needed protection from the attacking McLeans and it was interesting in the way the author used the impending attack to wrap up a mystery that was started in the first book of the trilogy. I loved the plot, loved how she worked things out, and can't wait to read more of her work!
    STRONG CARING H/h
I enjoyed this story so much. I agree with another reviewer it is best to read them in order because all the character's have reoccurring roles in the other stories. It was nice to visit the old friends I've come to love. I purchased mine as a bundle and had all 3 to read and it flows so nicely called The Isle of Mull.
The h is feisty, strong women who has the skill of a warrior. She doesn't come across as a know it all, but someone who wants to protect those she loves. The relationship between our H/h was believable and loving.

    struggled to listen to
narrations was bad to poor. All character s sounded female with only a change in pitch or trying to sound gutteral. I won't listen to snother storyline by this narrator.
    I survived this book. Avoid!
Between the author's inability to write using high school level English, bad accents, inconsistent details, mispronounced words, I should get a shirt announcing my ability to survive the worst written book I've ever heard.
I'd add more words to that sentence, but it would just end up looking like a run-on paragraph.
It was so bad,I thought it was a joke. I listened to the whole thing, trying to find a single redeeming quality. I found one: it ends.
The amount of errors between author and narrator made this the audio book equivalent of old Kung Fu movies, complete with the laugh track.
    I will un-purchase this with great alacrity./joke
    Don't bother
It was the time travel romance that attracted me to the book but immediately the narrator drove me crazy. I tried playing it at a slower speed because I couldn't catch her words. But then I realised the words weren't worth catching. It's as if it had been written by a fourteen year old with a wild imagination but lacks the skill to execute her ideas. Shocking, just terrible - sorry nothing good to say. Excruciating

    So-So story. Terrible narration..
Im having a tough time rating this book. Part of its a 1 star, part of its 2 and part is a 3. The 1 star comes for the most disgusting word ever, pussy, when describing a womans private parts. The 2 is for Rhys being in love with Alice the next day and wanting to marry her, and her feeling the same way. Talk about insta-love. Thats waaaay to fast for falling in love. I know this is only has 177 pages but the love didnt have to come that fast. And 3 comes from the mystery of the book. I do hate, hate, hate nothing but love stories BUT I also hate mysteries without a romance. AND since I hate the word that I mentioned before I cant see myself reading this author again for that reason. If she used it in one book I figure she uses it in all he books. She only used it once but that was enough warning for me.
I did like the banter between Rhys and Alice, and Jilly, and then when Aunt Millie came around. I was left up in the air as to who the bad guy was: Piers Trethwarren or Lord Vincent Fairmont, or someone completely different.
Oh, and there wasn't very much witchy things going on, and that's the reason I got this book. That, too, was disappointing.
There was a little semi-sexual tension but then they had sex and it wasnt real explicit and their sex talk was really kind of silly. The sex wasnt very good at all. And the swearing was nothing but damn and hell a few times.
As to the narrator: Wow, what can I say? He was always making swallowing sounds so I sped him up to 1.5 to see if that would help, and it did a little. His voice for Rhys was terrible. Rhys sound like an idiot sometimes and even more feminine than Alice, in the way the narrator read his words. And Lord Trethwarrens voice was even worse, he seemed to be screeching most of the time. And Jillys was just too masculine for a maid.
    Great Premise...Still Misses the Mark
This story is about a young witch living on the continent because in the past her family has been persecuted for exhibiting magical abilities. It has not been that long since witches were burned.
The story does begin with humor, a girl can't heal a kitten without attracting notice. The Viscount is reminded, that the young woman is a Witch, that supposed to run in families don't you know. I really thought this would be a light hearted book with a bit of romantic passion.
But I think the Heroine is either not very bright or is deliberately dense, and there is a difference.
This is something of a spoiler: The Witch"s psychic power gifts her a vision of the Viscount.

    Lots of fun
***this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review
I enjoyed this book. The story of Jonanthan and Geneveieve proved to be fun and exciting as the story unfolded. Looking for her mother's things, Geneveieve stumbles on a mess she just has to clean up. Jonathan just wants her to go away while he seaches out where his shipments are going. What do they get? A smuggling ring and a an attraction they just can't fight. Total fun.
Another wonderful performance by Melanie Fraser. I love her narrations, taking me directly into the story and keeps me listening.
This was the first one in the series I listened to, and while it could stand alone, I do think having the history of the others would have been beneficial.
    A Very Enjoyable Narration
3 star story, 4 star narration
This was a very enjoyable audiobook. It is part of a series but my enjoyment wasn't hampered even though I haven't read the other books in the series. This is a regency historical romance, taking place at a time when men were either gentlemen or rakes, and reputation was simply everything.
I don't think there is anything particularly astounding about this romance. It has an independent and clever young woman as the main character, Genevieve, who doesn't feel the need for protection from her newly discovered half brothers and wants to be independent.
She finds a way to achieve this when she meets Jonathan Bridges, the owner of a shipping company which may have lost her deceased mother's possessions.
Jonathan is attracted to the bright young lady that he finds sorting out the mess in his office but he is up to his neck in worry because it appears a smuggling ring has been using his shipping business for a cover and now he has to trace missing shipping crates and he needs help.
Jonathan is desperate enough to accept help from Genevieve and her family and so the adventure begins and love emerges along the way especially as the two of them find themselves in a rather compromising position.
The story is enjoyable but it is the narration that really brought things to life for me. A narrator can either bring a book to life by opening it up to the listener or they can kill the story off by smothering it in monotony.

I love books by Jane Feather and I think I have ...
I love books by Jane Feather and I think I have read almost all of them. This one unfortunately is too much like some of her others for me. If you are new to Feather's book though, you may enjoy this one. Her historical detail is always topnotch. But if you have read earlier books you will probably find the characters to be very similar to previous ones--the beautiful reckless woman who dives headlong into things and the to-die-for hero who comes to her rescue.
    Better before
This story started out very well. The author knows the atmosphere of the18th century and has written an amount of excellent and exiting books that takes place in that time. I particularly liked her "V" stories even if they are somewhat cruel. In this book I didn't come to like the heroine though, and the hero's emotional turnabout came to late for me, it seemed forced by the looming end of the story.
    Loved it
I've been reading too many recency romances that are filled with nothing but scandal and angst for the lovers. This story that starts in the French revolution and returns to England is fast paced , well written and has some sizzle as well as likeable main characters. Other reviewers have given plenty of information about the plot.. I have always been a fan of Jane Feather but not so much of late. This book is more like the Jane of old. One star lost for a rather simplified plot at the end.
The final scene with the villain was so lame that 2 days later I forgot that I had ...
The hero left the heroine in the dark so she messes things up because she would rather have it her way than ask a question. The final scene with the villain was so lame that 2 days later I forgot that I had finished reading the book. Love my oldie Jane Feather books and enjoy rereading more than any new stuff of hers.
    Good Read
I like this book as well as all of her other books. All are historical romances and live up to the hype. This brings the horror of the guillotine and France's terror to light. But as all of her books, this one has a happy ending.

    1 way to ruin a book ...
1 way to ruin a book? Give it to a BAD narrator!
I gave the story itself 5 Stars since without hearing it I can assume nothing and have nothing to give an opinion on.
    HOWEVER!
NARRATOR : She is the reason I Cannot listen to this book! I know I have listened to her in the past .... for whatever its worth. However THIS performance was SO stilted and choppy with each word individually clipped to the extent that it sounds like a list of words instead of sentences! Twice I got to 20 minutes before yanking out my ear buds in DISGUST. A few more times I didn't get to 2 minutes . Needless to say I WANTED to hear this book. But I couldn't concentrate long enough on putting the words together in my mind...
CREDITWORTHY ? NO ! Not in my opinion.!!
    HEAT FACTOR? N/A
    too silly and confused
Would you try another book from Jade Lee and/or Charlotte Anne Dore?
No. Both were not worth the time to listen to this book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jade Lee again?
This was my first book , but there was no chemistry and there were several scenes that did not make sense or fit into the plot. It just seemed like a series of vignettes that were cobbled into a plot, as if there was a checklist of things that had to go into the book.I also don't like the idea that some authors use that if a woman is smart, she is looking at having sexual experiences as part of her "education". The hero becomes an instructor for sex ed 101. There is nothing romantic about this approach. The innocent country girl to passionate & curious temptress occurs over approx 2 weeks..wow, that's fast!!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charlotte Anne Dore?
I really don't think even the best narrator could move through this disaster of confused silliness, to make it enjoyable. No chemistry and poor dialogue can't be made better by a better narrator. Maybe it is for the best that narrating talents weren't wasted here.
What character would you cut from 50 Ways to Ruin a Rake?
Anyone that used the term " cricket princess"... just stupid.
    Any additional comments?
Why this title. there is a "way to ruin a rake" that starts every chapter, but there are only 27 chapters. This is a shameless rip-off of 50 shades of gray. Even the title is silly and confusing, so you get a sense of the entire book just from that.

    Publisher's Summary:
Rebellious Julian Fortescue never expected to inherit a dukedom nor to find himself guardian to three young half sisters. Now in the market for a governess, he lays eyes on Jane Grey and knows immediately that she is qualified to become his mistress. Yet the alluring woman appears impervious to him.
Lady Jeanne de Falleron didn't seek a position as a governess simply to fall into bed with the duke of Denford. Under the alias of Jane Grey, she must learn which of the duke's relatives is responsible for the death of her family - and take her revenge. She certainly can't afford the distraction of her darkly irresistible employer or the smoldering desire he ignites within her.
But as Jane discovers more clues about the villain she seeks, she's faced with a possibility more disturbing than her growing feelings for Julian: What will she do if the man she loves is also the man she's sworn to kill?
    Contains mature themes.

Decent Regency with an Art theme. MCs could be better.
As Regencies go, it's not bad. The writing is decent. The plot is pretty contrived and moves slowly. I did like the discussions about art. As others have said, the hero doesn't have many scruples and comes across as shallow, spending most of the book seducing the heroine. Initially the heroine seems strong and driven. Then she becomes stupid and gets more and more stupid as the story progresses. She lies about her life in St. Lucia yet doesn't bother to look up the details about the place she claims to be from before making pronouncements that are easily shown as false. She's come to the residence of the hero with the explicit purpose of finding the villain responsible for the death of her family. Yet for unfathomable reasons, she does not include the hero on her list of suspects even though there are plenty of hints. Why? Because she's attracted to the hero and so she prefers to be obtuse. During the reveal when she announces her real identity, the true villain refuses to acknowledge her even though they knew each other well. At this point, she should have clued in to the set up, instead she goes to the true villain and tries to enlist his help to discredit the hero. The story goes downhill precipitously. I dislike authors making heroines out to be dumb and dumber in order to drag out the plot to its inevitable conclusion. It isn't until very late in the book that the reveal happens. In my opinion, the story would have been a lot more interesting if the unveiling happens earlier and we see how the MCs deal with it, especially if the plot had unfolded in a more clever way.
    LOVED JULIAN AND JANE STORY
Let me express how much I loved The Duke of Dark Desires. What a fantastic story about one woman's pursuit for vengeance and a man living by his own rules. Oh my goodness, I didn't know what to expected when I started to read this book, other than "Yes, Julian's story." Seriously, an incredible journey. Okay, I better get on with the rest of my thoughts and why I thought this was fantastic.
LOVE Julian! He's a marvelous character. I mean he paints himself as this dark, brooding man that people should be afraid to cross paths. However, if they got to know him they would see there is more to him than what he presents.
