Good Story

I liked the gradual development of romance between the H & h The only part I didnt like was the heroine telling the villian to shoot the hero & hitting him across the face with a whip! She was nice up til then, disappointing!

Great Book!

I love most books of Anita Mills so I was very pleased with "Autumn Rain", it's worth reading and when you finish try "Falling Stars" and "Secret Nights". All three books are great and they are standalone but you'll find some characters of "Autumn Rain" in the other two books. Try them.

Another good regency story from a valued author

Anita Mills has a good appreciation of Regency literature and understands the social pressures of the time. Her characters are clearly defined and the plots very believable. I have enjoyed her stories for many years and am looking forward to re-reading these stories on my Kindle.

Wonderful sexy romance

What did you love best about The Westerfield Affair?

It's a well written. sweetly romantic story with engaging characters who develop naturally during the course of the story.

What other book might you compare The Westerfield Affair to and why?

I have read the other stories in the Westerfield Trilogy - The Reddington Scandal and The Darlington Incident which are obviously very similar in style.

Comparable books by other authors include the Ravenswood Manor series or Annabel Joseph's Training Lady Townsend (the first in a new series).

Which character as performed by Elliott Daniels was your favorite?

I preferred him doing the narration to him doing the specific dialogue of characters - some of the accents he chose to use were a little distracting.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All the spanking scenes between Kitty and Harry are just wonderful. I particularly enjoyed Harry's fury when he had to pursue Kitty to her family home.

Any additional comments?

I had already read this book before listening to it on audio so I knew that I would love it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-written Regency Romance with quite a lot of sex and spankings.

Something different

I listen to a lot of regency romances and for the most part they are alike, but I that doesn't bother me. In fact thats why i enjoy them. The format works why change it. It just doesn't make for a very interesting review so I rarely write one. This book however is different, and different really works this time. I suggest reading this book and experience a different regency romance.

Another Excellent Beaton Regency

I really enjoyed this regency romance novel. It is the 3rd or 4th regency novel by M. C. Beaton (aka Marion Chesney) that I have read, and so far it is my least favorite. All the previous novels were, IMO, 5 star reads. This one, however, is only deserving of 4 or maybe 4 1/2 stars. While the book is quite on par with Ms. Beatons others in that it is beautifully written, with an interesting plot, and fully developed characters, there is a part of the story that marred my enjoyment. The heroine, Penelope, is an 18 year old orphan, who works for peanuts as a music teacher at a school for young ladies. Penelope is quite alone in the world as her father's family disowned him when he married Penelope's mother, a woman of a lesser social standing. Penelope's only other relation, her Aunt Augusta, is a mushroom of the first order (not only by birth, but also in behavior!) Aunt Augusta is quite a character, and some of her social gaffs had me laughing out loud (like when she farted out loud at a ball! LOL) Augusta has inherited a fortune through some questionable means. Her greatest desire is to become a society matron. To that end, she decides to finance Penelope's come out into society with the hope that the beautiful, well bred, Penelope will attract an aristocratic husband, which will raise Augusta's social standing. Augusta cares nothing for Penelope. She is an unfeeling, self-serving creature, who is capable of extreme cruelty. Augusta has her eye on the hero, Roger, Earl of Hestleton as a possible groom for Penelope. Through nefarious means, Augusta is able to secure an introduction to the Earl, and an invitation to his home, for herself and Penelope. From there the story develops. At first, Penelope thinks the Earl is a bit too high in the instep and finds his autocratic manner overbearing. The story that unfolds is an unusual one in my experience for this genre. The plot had a few unexpected twists and turns, but ultimately Roger and Penelope do get their HEA. To add a bit of intrigue to the plot there is treason, blackmail, and a death. I really liked Roger and Penelope, however at one point Roger engaged in behavior that I did not like. After that my feels towards him cooled a bit and, although I was happy that he finally got his HEA, I felt like he hadn't suffered quite enough and that Penelope should have called him on his conduct before finally agreeing to marry him. But, that's just me. When it comes to my reading I have a vengeful streak that's a mile wide! LOL I like to see the characters get what they deserve and in this instance it is my opinion that the angst Roger suffered before he finally reconciled with Penelope was nowhere near enough. As a result, I was a bit dissatisfied with the ending of the book, and hence the 4 star rating.

Great Character Role

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ice Captain's Daughter to be better than the print version?

Because I haven't had time anymore to read, I listen to books on my way to work in the car. This book was awesome to listen to. It's not normally one I would pick up and read, but I am fond of Rachel F. Hirsch and her reading style. She is top notch when it comes voice acting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ice Captain's Daughter?

That would probably be a spoiler and I against those.

Have you listened to any of Rachel F. Hirschs other performances before? How does this one compare?

Again, Rachel's voice acting and reading is perfect. Her accent impression is excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh. And like every book I get into, it made me antsy for what was going to happen next.

Great little love story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! And have. It's a great little love story, and Rachel F. Hirsch's narration makes each character seem so interesting that all you want to do is keep listening.

What other book might you compare The Ice Captain's Daughter to and why?

It's a TV series, but I would definitely compare this to Downton Abbey. Like the show, you get a behind the scenes look at the British Aristocracy and their help.

Which scene was your favorite?

Without giving too much away, the hero rescues the heroine when she is set-up by jealous peers resulting in a very uncomfortable, and potentially dangerous, situation. I was rooting for the couple through the whole book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. And it is only 3 hours long, so it goes fast. I couldn't stop listening. I took it with me from the car, to the house, etc. until it was done!

I would listen to it again, and just might :)

A wonderful and inspiring story

Would you listen to Let It Be Me again? Why?

I would certainly relisten this story. It is a testament to the mixture of the arts. I actually found and played the pieces mentioned in the story on youtube as a background to the story's unfolding. I finished off with a rendering of Beethoven's 9th Symphony from the reuniting of the two German states with renowned composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein in the lead. Magnificent!!! I almost felt like Bridget at the premiere of the piece.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let It Be Me?

The moment she 'got' the spirit of the Sonata. The entire scene is romantic, erotic and beautiful.

I have listened to another recording from Alison Larkin. I like her clear voice and British accent.

The moment at the end where everything comes together and life changes completely for Bridget.

Oh, I liked this!

Yes, its a pirate story but not with your usual pirates and not the usual story. I'm not going to go into the plot but it was a good one. It kept me interested the whole way. Emmaline is fantastic! A strong female character and that's always good to see. Nicholas is delightful! Their relationship develops well and their dialogue is witty and fun. The narration was first-rate. This was wonderful. I'm so sorry that the subsequent books aren't available on audio yet.

Great Story, Not so good narration.

Wow I loved this story. Great characters Emmaline and Nicholas are. She is a very strong butt kicking pirate. Loved her. Always wearing breeches and in her bare feet. LOL He is handsome, suave, and just awesome. They had some great chemistry together, a few very nicely written sex scenes.

Lots of of great dialogue throughout the entire book. I like lots of dialogue in the books I read. The story line, plot and writing flowed very nicely together. Wonderful story!

A very enjoyable READ for sure, because the narrator made them sound old. I got to 8 percent in whispersync and had to stop listening because the story was good but the narrator was not. So at 8 percent I quit listening and just read this book. I am not a Veida Dehmlow fan at all. Sorry VD but you need to not make your characters sound old it was ruining this story.

Love, love, loved this book. A little bit of angst and a little bit of misunderstandings and it was all good. So, let me suggest you ignore the 3 one and two star reviews and read the 50 higher reviews.

Loved Nicholas and Emmaline, their sexual tension and the remarkable sex. Loved the storyline and, really, there's not enough lady pirate books.

Loved the secondary characters: Phin, Shamus, Sebastian and Clair. Really hated Peter and Alphonse. Really, really hated Blackwell.

It was an entertaining book and I will definitely be reading this author again.

As to the narrator: Since she has a rather low voice to begin with she does alright with most of the men's voices. She did sound kinda' girly when it came to Peter but that was ok because he was a creep anyway and the priest was girly too but he wasn't in it that much so it was alright.

Not my favorite of the series. 3.5 stars

This was my least favorite of the series. But it was still good. I liked finally finding out what happened to Adele and Julia. There was lots of dialogue. It seemed the chemistry between the hero and heroine was not up to par as the rest of the series. There was a few steamy moments though,

The narrator was just great. All the characters had their own distinct voices, and she did the men's voices really well. I like Marian Hussey as a narrator.

NOTE-If you read this series start with Scots, Spies, and Salacious Lies. Its 3 novellas and helps with understanding all the characters as this series continues to develop.

Sweet romance

I really enjoyed this story. Although it isn't the type of book I usually read it was good. I'm happy to read the continuing story of the characters in Broken Spur. I will be reading the next one in the series and can't wait to start it. Even though there are spelling errors, they are not detrimental to the enjoyment of the story. If you want a sweet romance with a happy ending you should give this book and author a try. After this series I'll start on her next one. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

The girl with the green eyes

This book was as good as the first. With deputy Will, now the sheriff of Broken Spur. A green eyed beauty comes storming into Will's office, demanding the release of her father. Will is smitten at first sight, but won't release her father until he sobers up some (town rules). This just makes her madder, but she will have to return later. Read this exciting new story to find out what happens. I hope you enjoy burnt Ppl as much as I did.

A Great second story to the series...

This book takes off with the deputy becoming the sheriff. His job is to protect the town including all of their citizens. He takes on a bounty hunter and then his boss who treats immigrants as slaves. The story is well written and worth your time.

These stories keep telling me that I am glad that I live in this time then in the 1800's. I loved the story it is very hard to think of the way they had to live.

After he runs off the lout, she thanks him. She remembers him from the train. The moment he boarded she noticed his striking gray eyes and his charismatic way. Unfortunately since a woman and three small children were with him she took him for a married man. But he isn't. He is looking after his widowed sister and little nephews. Good news. Savannah, resigns to wait a week for the Georgia bound train to come, but soon learns the school teacher is seriously ill and volunteers to substitute for as long as she is needed, even though it will delay her departure. As sickness spreads through town and her relationship with the cowboy becomes more complicated, it becomes unclear whether she will find love in Dovetail or return home content to be a spinster schoolmarm.

UNUSUAL.

The storyline is as good as any I've read in a long time. BUT......the author needs to talk with whoever put her book on Kindle. There are many instances throughout the book where the text is first in single space, then on the next page it switches to double space and repeats the same text. Sometimes the same text is repeated a THIRD time. This makes it very hard to read the book. Having said that, I was so intrigued by the story plot that I managed to read it to the end. Savannah and Trent are very interesting characters. I give it four stars for content, but hope that the author is able to correct the publishing errors. He Who Hesitates is Lost

The main character, Savannah, is her own worst enemy. She assumes the worst, constantly undermines any romance from occurring and even seems constantly to want to believe that being a spinster will be a better choice for herself... any reader will recognize that there is no hope for her until the last pages of the book. Even admitting that truth to oneself, the reader will find it an agony as Savannah does everything in her power to destroy the relationship everyone else can see is right for herself. I enjoyed that this was a true romance and not a book about lust; that the story held to a moral core. Still I had searched for a Christian romance, and this was not one. God is seldom mentioned and does not figure much into the lives of any of the characters.
