  • Gender Change A Mothers Journey with her Transgender Child
Paria Hassouri, MD, talks about her new book sharing her experience of her transgender child – Found in Transition: A Mother’s Evolution During Her Child’s Gender Change. The bottom line is acceptance and inclusion. This podcast may open your eyes and adjust your thinking regarding transgender people.

Found in Transition begins on May 24, 2017, when Hassouri first learns that her fourteen-year-old, designated male at birth, is having gender dysphoria and concludes on October 26, 2018, when her now daughter legally changes her name and gender at the Santa Monica courthouse. During the seventeen months in-between, Hassouri navigates through anger, denial, and grief before eventually arriving at a place of acceptance and advocacy.

Hassouri, a pediatrician and the mother of three, chronicles what amounts to a dual transition: her child’s transition from male to female and her own evolution as she overcomes deep-seated insecurities about not fitting in as an Iranian immigrant, while navigating through anger, denial, and grief about her child’s gender dysphoria, to eventually arrive at a place of acceptance and advocacy.

“While I was always accepting of trans people in principle, it seemed that I was not okay with my own child being trans,” writes Hassouri. “Was that all just because I was shocked and didn’t see it was coming because I thought that Ava was doing it out of depression, a desire for attention, and anxiety about her future, or was there also an underlying thread of prejudice against trans people? I want to think it was all the former, but I can’t be 100 percent certain.”

As her daughter transitions from male to female, Hassouri ultimately discovers her own capacity to evolve, what it truly means to parent; and how to use her voice to raise awareness on behalf of the transgender community. Gender change is not an easy process for the person going through the change or the family desperately trying to understand the change.

    We Talk about

The sexual perversion around LGBTQ and transgender people
The importance of joining a support group such as Transforming Families o=in LA
How to get out of your own way to understand transgender people
How to seek out a gender change specialist and therapist
Understand and listening to the person seeking a gender change

Paria Hassouri, MD, is the author of Found in Transition. A pediatrician, mother of three, and transgender rights activist, her essays have been published in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, and Women’s Running Magazine. She lives in Los Angeles.

  • Expand Your Subconscious Mind
Subconscious mind expert C. James Jensen joins me to talk about his new book, Expand The Power of Your Subconscious mind. This book uniquely combines the original unabridged version of Dr. Murphy’s definitive book and expanded commentary and teachings from executive coach and consultant Jim Jensen.

Jim created a stellar career in sales and executive leadership. He attributes his success in his career and life to the teachings of De. Joseph Murphy. He and his wife attended a four-day seminar and discovered the path to happiness and success via the subconscious mind.

Using the tools shared in the book Expand the Power of Your Subconscious Mind, you will be able to draw to you what you are constantly thinking. It is that powerful consistent thinking ( your subconscious mind) that is really in charge and directing subconscious creation. We create from the subconscious.

    We talk about

    Overview of subconscious creation
How susceptible we are to oral suggestion
    Using the subconscious for forgiveness
    How the supraconscious helps us
    False Expectations Appearing Real
How to build or break a bad habit
The relationship between the conscious and subconscious area of the mind
A mistake is just a miss take. You have the power of do-over.
You don’t get what you want in life; you get what you expect.
How your self-concept determines your life
    The principles of performance
    How affirmations really work
    The power of your thoughts

    C. James “Jim” Jensen began his career as a salesman with Encyclopedia Britannica in his senior year of college. Within seven years, he had become International Sales Manager in charge of worldwide sales. At the age of 28, he became Senior Vice President and CEO of Great Books of the Western World, a division of Encyclopaedia Britannica. In this same year (1969), Jim and his wife, Jeri, attended a 4-day seminar that would greatly impact their lives forever. As is written in the Introduction, Jim became both a voracious student and, ultimately, a teacher of many of the principles written in his book, Expand the Power of Your Subconscious Mind.
Jim also became President and CEO of two additional companies that became the leading company within its respective industry. Jim attributes much of those companies’ success to the management and employees, embracing many of the principles taught in his book.
Today, Jim provides executive coaching, consulting, and advisory services to emerging growth and mid-sized companies. He is an active member of the World Presidents’ Organization, serves as a life director for the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and is a member of the board of directors and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the board of Aspen Group, Inc.

  • Love Skills For Lasting Relationships
Couples coach Linda Carroll talks about her new book Love Skills: The Keys to Unlocking Lasting, Wholehearted Love. Falling in love is never a straight line to “happily ever after.” Relationships go through seasons of change, renewal, darkness, and light. Lind says “Contrary to conventional wisdom, people don’t meet, fall in love, overcome a few trials, and then live happily ever after — nor do conflict and dissatisfaction between partners necessarily mean a couple is headed for Splitsville.”

“When you know how to navigate the storms, conflict can lead to understanding and even closeness that makes your relationship even better than it was before,” writes Carroll. “In most cases, the Love Skills process will help you to rediscover the original promise of your relationship and offer you a road map for traveling this rewarding and challenging path.”

Love Skills offers specific, effective solutions to the most common struggles that couples face both the small troubles and the more serious dilemmas of communication gridlock, betrayal, and seemingly intractable differences. Carroll skillfully draws on her own marriage of thirty-five-years to guide readers through challenging issues like loss of sexual energy, why what once seemed endearing in their partner is now annoying, and the many ways that family history and personality type can wreak havoc in relationships.

    We talk about

Love is a feeling – loving is a skill
    The chemistry of love
How to select a partner well
    The importance of self-love first
    What is your attachment style
    Different types of listening
    How to communicate effectively
    COVID confinements and love relationships

Linda Carroll is the author of Love Skills and Love Cycles. While she has worked as a therapist and couple’s coach for over three decades and has acquired numerous certificates and degrees along the way, she says that her own thirty-five-year marriage is the primary source of her knowledge when it comes to the cycles of love. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon. Visit her online at https://lindaacarroll.com/.
