Book presents nothing earth shattering. Mostly reinforces what most companies already do / know

The book is a light quick read. Should not take the average reader more then 2-3 sittings to go through.

Overall, the book, presents nothing earth shattering. Mainly it focuses on concepts vs. actionable tactics. For example, the book discusses at length how important it is to get to know your customers and their habits. Try to move a level 4 customer to a Level 3 to a Level 2 to a Level 1. I think we all know that concept and try to do it each day, but it's easier said in concept vs. action.

Another concept in the book is Customer Service. The book tells numerous stories how everyone in your company should be an ambassador of your brand / company and every interaction counts. Again, I think most of us know this.

If you work in the sports industry there are a few good stories and ideas to implement at your team to add value. I really enjoyed the changes Lou made on the away game trips when bringing sponsors. Having had the opportunity in the past to travel with a team, the items and care Lou instituted would have made the trip much more memorable and more of a story than it was.

Overall it's a decent book that you can read quickly and reinforce many of the things your company does already. You should come away with at least 1 new idea, which makes it worth the time to read and price of the book.

What the customer wants!

I currently work in the professional sports industry (team side) and was very excited to have this title recommended to me by a friend. It is difficult to find books that relate directly to what I am so deeply involved with on a daily basis. At the same time, being in the sports business rarely allows me to be a complete fan, so I was ecstatic when I saw "Winning the Customer" was written by the former CMO of the Patriots.

Seems I Read This Book a Week Too Early

A week after I read this book, the CEO was fired for performance. Surprise. While the book goes into some detail as to how Groupon found itself, it spent more time painting the CEO as child-coder who couldn't grow up and run a company...or get out of the way. So, the board did what he should have done...leave.

Overall, the narrator was fine, the story was ok, but with each chapter I found out less and less about Groupon and more about why Andrew Mason deserved what he got.

Do not waste your time or money

Would you try another book from Amy Jo Martin and/or Amy Jo Martin?

Maybe but I could not make it past halfway through this. Now if all of the actual "content" is in the second half, then she failed to convince me to stick around to find out. The first chapters come off as self promoting teenage hero worship, and almost smarmy. More of a autobiography about how well connected she is to the"well connected". You need to grab your reader early. I'm glad I listened to an incredibly motivating and content stuffed book "Duct Tape Marketing" by John Jantsch first or i would be back to thinking that social media is about what type of sushi i had last night. If you are a business professional curious about the power of social media and what it can do for you, run, now..... Pay attention , I.'m only going to say this once. DUCT TAPE MARKETING!!!!!!!!

I liked how relatable Amy Jo, and her story is very honest. There was nothing in the book that was crazy groundbreaking, but she understands that herself. She is open, candid and honest. Her examples of working with different client's also really help to open up what it is about social media that is so attractive and can be so beneficial for people.

I didn't expect for this book to be enjoyable due to its topic, boy was I wrong. it was worth listening to it. the narrator did an outstanding job. his mood kept my attention. for those wanting to know more about marketing. add this to your list as a must.

Great place to learn the basics of marketing

This is a must read book for anybody with a business. My basic background was not in strategic business marketing. However, this book has not only brought my net profit up in all of my businesses. It has also generated significant concepts and ideas to drive my business on a global scale after applying what was discussed to my businesses. Period, this book works!

What could Rick Cesari and Ron Lynch have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

More useful information and how-to's, less talking about how amazing your firm is. the book served essentially as a long-form advertisement discussing their firm's incredible bredth and depth of experience, and had an implicit (so you should hire us to take care of this for you) after almost every paragraph. There were certainly some useful pieces of information, though, so it gets 3 stars in my book.

Essential for both non-profits and for profits interested in Cause Marketing

I was required to read this book for graduate school and I am so happy I did. I work in the non-profit world and this is an excellent and business oriented book. It shows great strategy, excellent case studies, and a very clear set of parameters to decide what are meaningful and beneficial Cause Marketing partnerships and opportunities. I recommended this to my team as an essential read for our organization.

Hard work and Good Work

This book is one of the most practical and seriously useful books I have read in recent times. There is an enormous amount of effort that goes into the production of a book of this kind. Just creating the 'case study' material set requires negotiating with a LOT of people and you have to admire the commitment of authors who set out to show the world that Good Works are out there and can be used to create strategies of your own. Every organisation which hopes to do good regardless of whether they are socially oriented or not should use something like this book to inform their strategies. I intend to use it for my MBA corporate social responsibility class and my research methods class - a bit of a mixed bag but when you read the book you will know why it can be put to different purposes!

Not great to listen to

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I think the information is great and there are a ton of really great action items throughout the book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounded so monotone and boring to listen to that it made it hard to really listen to and gain anything out of. I've listened to other marketing and SEO books and the narrator actually sounded like marketing was exciting. In this case I kept thinking that there is no way this actually a real person reading this book. Book was great, audio really not so much.

Disappointed. Very hard to follow.

This is a very hard book to listen to. I gave up after 45 minutes.

The subject matter should not be difficult to comprehend, but this book is, The author uses very long sentences and strings together a lot of unnecessary words. I've read scores of audio books -- this is the most difficult book to read I've ever encountered. This is also the first book review I've ever written.

It's possible that a hard copy of the book would be easier to follow, but I doubt it.

Don't Waste Your Money

What disappointed you about Optimize?

The organization of the content within the book is terrible- for instance, the author brings up KPI's multiple times, then finally when you are half-way through the book he finally explains what a KPI is. For the record, I know what a KPI is so this was fine for me, but what about those who don't? If you intended to explain what a KPI is, why wouldn't you do it the first time you bring it up. There are several issues like this throughout the book.

The reading of the infographics are absolutely painful.

This is an absolute beginners guide, in the form of a tedious text book. If you have any knowledge of digital marketing at all you should get something more advanced as you won't learn anything here.

The author references other areas of the book that I bet if you pulled every sentence with a reference out and put them into a separate document it would likely be a book in and of itself.

Better Narration. The narrator lacked enthusiasm for the subject and was, quite frankly, extremely boring.

Recommended reading for those implementing the NPS system

Covers the basics of implementing NPS and useful supplement to the Ultimate Question 2.0. Also got me thinking about the basics of customer segmentation. I liked the concept of using a "customer corridor" to map the customer's journey through your organization and measure satisfaction at key touch points.

This book is full of good information and has good case studies. I dealt it was a little dry and technical at times.

Excellent social media how-to

I remember when Michael launched his blog and I recall talking to our team about how impressively he was growing reach. I don't know him personally, but watched with awe from a distance.

This is an excellent listen because it is a how-to guide from someone who really did it. There is a great deal of uncommon sense in this book and I whole heartedly recommend it.

I think too many people believe success in social media will come from a viral video or a facebook campaign.
