    not a great book
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
maybe anyone who can't do a simple google search on their own. I thought it would be a teaching book, but instead it's hundreds of examples of people who have done things the author likes. It's like having someone read you the encyclopedia... not really teaching you, just saying "here's a whole lot of people who did it" before you.
What do you think your next listen will be?
    nothing by this author.
Have you listened to any of Christine Marshalls other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I guess if you want to be entertained by a list of people who are successful, but not really taught anything...
    Any additional comments?
I thought we could return books we didn't like. I was planning on returning this one. Where is that feature?
This book is neither insightful or interesting.
Would you try another book from Rohit Bhargava and/or Christine Marshall?
This book was generic/vanilla at best.
What could Rohit Bhargava have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Influencing behavior is a power skill, You aren't going to get their with this training.

Not At All What The Title Promotes
What disappointed you about Beyond Viral: How to Attract Customers, Promote Your Brand, and Make Money with Online Video (New Rules Social Media Series)?
There is little in the way of solid info on actually how to attract customers. As far as promoting your brand, the author tells you to get your video to go viral, but that getting your videos to go viral is by shear accident. Just not worth the 6 hours.
What was most disappointing about Kevin Naltys story?
Would like practical, hands-on info. Not why his videos are cool and how farting is going to help me promote my business.
What three words best describe J. D. Cullums voice?
    non-obtrusive...
    Really actionable advice
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes- it's easy to absorb and very practical to apply. We were able to get more views and a bigger audience thanks to the tips
What did you like best about this story?
The author is both a popular YouTube creator and marketer- so he sees things most authors and "experts" miss
What about J. D. Cullums performance did you like?
    Professional

    Publisher's Summary:
Why customer retention is the new acquisition.
If there's anything the recession of 2009 taught us, it was the importance of investing in our customers, but when was this any different? So says Joseph Jaffe, bestselling author of Life After the 30-Second Spot and Join the Conversation, and a leading expert and thought leader on new media and social media. In most businesses, it costs roughly five-to-ten times more to acquire a new customer than it does to retain an existing one, and yet companies continue to disproportionately spend their budgets into the "wrong" end of the funnel the mass media or awareness side.
What we haven't paid enough attention to is the "right" end of the funnel - the word-of-mouth component that essentially acts as a multiplier for future business. The economic impact of an active, engaged and loyal customer is tremendous.
And the same is true of the opposite scenario, namely the impact of angry customers and negative word-of-mouth or referrals. It is this thinking that Jaffe has channeled to challenge marketers to "flip the funnel" once and for all. With a renewed focus and energy on customer experience, it is possible to grow your sales, while decreasing your budget in other words, getting more from less. Engaging a few customers to spread the word to many.
Using this new "flipped funnel" model, together with a set of new rules of customer service and a revolutionary customer referral and activation process, you'll learn how to transform your existing customers into your best salespeople. In addition, Jaffe will explain how to best introduce and combine both digital and social media tools to boost your loyalty arsenal, deploy "influencer marketing" and implement word-of-mouth strategies that inspire your loyal, opinionated, and most vocal customers to become credible, persuasive, and influential endorsers of your products and services.

    MDIA Special Topics Review
Flip the Funnel is an interesting book written by Joseph Jaffe that goes over the way he thinks and how he believes businesses can be successful. He begins his book with a section called "Getting Priorities Straight" and then references old marketing principles of price, product, placement, and promotion. Jaffe tells the reader to throw all that away because due to technology everything is changing and also that stereotypical demographics can no longer succeed when appealing to an audience. Instead he tells the audience to learn the six Cs which are content, commerce, community, context, customization, and conversation. He describes how prospects become customers and the way business are currently measuring success is not truly a good marker and that the process needs to be changed. The way Jaffe thinks is different, but also very logical his arguments are very strong and he provides evidence for his opinions.
The next section is called "A New Way Forward" and it describes how the customers are a company's biggest asset when it comes to marketing. Instead of marketing towards a large group and eventually getting a core group of loyal customers, business must start the other way. Companies need to get a solid customer base and use them to reinforce the public that their product is worth using in order to gain more customers.

    Title: The Welcomer Edge
Subtitle: Unlocking the Secrets to Repeat Business
    Author: Richard R. Shapiro
    Narrator: Scott Brick
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-28-12
Publisher: The Center For Client Retention
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 13 votes
    Genres: Business, Marketing
    Publisher's Summary:
The Welcomer Edge provides practical recommendations and strategies so that any company - regardless of industry or size - can maximize the quality of its customer service and the quantity of its loyal customers.
The principles outlined in The Welcomer Edge are universal for all sales and service environments. It describes four distinct categories of service professionals - the people that will make any customer service/sales function or department a success.
Understanding that each category has definitive service personalities will help a business at its most critical moment: the encounter that brings two people together to make the sale or further increase brand loyalty.
At the heart of this book is the "Welcomer", a special category of friendly, engaging people who are innately intuitive and perceive customers as people first. Identifying and recruiting welcomers - as part of a company's team - is the key to success. Author Richard Shapiro, the founder and president of The Center For Client Retention, provides real-life examples and anecdotes to help transform this concept into action.
The bottom line is that The Welcomer Edge shows how sales and customer associates can have a powerful impact on revenues because they determine the outcome of the all-important first impression, and this translates into whether or not a business will achieve its most critical goal - repeat business.
The Welcomer Edge will give any company or organization the competitive edge.

    A little pompous
Would you ever listen to anything by Richard R. Shapiro again?
    possibly
How could the performance have been better?
Scott Brick made it a little too dramatic. It needed to be a little more 'instructional' and a guide rather than a dramatic read.
    Any additional comments?
After I got past Chapter 1 it was more of the same. It was a little too 'preachy' for me. I do agree with Mr Shapiro that being a 'welcomer' is all about common sense. I got what I needed (personally) from the beginning of the book.
I had to quit this book after 3 hours
    Any additional comments?
This book is pretty boring ... the first three hours basically involve the author ranting about bad customer service situations he's been in: bad service at the bank, bad service in a restaurant, bad service at the florist, bad service everywhere. I kept waiting for him to get to the point, but after 3 hours of anecdotes I gave up.
Scott Brick is a PHENOMENAL narrator, and I've enjoyed everything he's done. However, they keep interjecting a female reader every few paragraphs. She has a silly-sweet voice that seems more appropriate to a children's book. The constant switching between Brick's commanding voice and her child-like voice was very disconcerting and made this narration difficult to stomach.
People seem to like this book on Amazon, so maybe the last half is killer ... but I didn't enjoy this at all. Categorizing your employees as "welcomers, robots, disinterested, etc." seems simplistic and not terribly useful. You might as well call your employees "good, bad, and ugly" ... that would, at least, be more catchy.
A fresh approach to some very important topics
I greatly enjoyed this fresh approach to the important topics of making an impression and building an emotional bridge to the customer.

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 65 votes
    Genres: Business, Marketing
    Publisher's Summary:
The web is undergoing a fundamental change. It is moving away from its current structure of documents and pages linked together and towards a new structure that is built around people. This is a profound change that will affect how we create business strategy, design, marketing, and advertising. The reason for this shift is simple. For tens of thousands of years we've been social animals. The web, which is only 20 years old, is simply catching up with offline life.
From travel to news to commerce, smart businesses are reorienting their efforts around people - around the social behavior of their customers and potential customers. In order to be successful, businesses will need to understand how people are connected, how their social network influences them, how the people closest to them influence them the most, and how it's more important for marketers to focus on small, connected groups of friends rather than looking for overly influential individuals.
This book pulls together the latest research from leading universities and technology companies to describe how people are connected, and how ideas and brand messages spread through social networks. It explains for listeners how to rebuild their businesses around social behavior and create products that people tell their friends about.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
More about the how social networks will change the way we interact.
What was most disappointing about Paul Adamss story?
The reference to the social web is misleading as the main subject is about social interaction and how this impacts on marketing strategies.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Eric Michael Summerer?

    Perspective Reflecting Research
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
While the presentation includes interesting perspectives on 'social' it is very frustrating to have to listen to 20 referenced papers at the end of chapters. I ended up wondering if I shouldn't be going to those documents and tuning out after the first few minutes of the names of papers and authors frequently going back to the 1970's.

    Language: English

    Genres: Business, Marketing
    Publisher's Summary:
From $10,000 tweets to making money in the afterlife, a recovering gossip columnist explores the business lessons that power the Hollywood Industrial Complex.
Why do celebrities get paid so much more than regular people to do a job that seems to afford them the same amount of leisure time as most retirees? What do Bush-era economics have to do with the rise of Kim Kardashian? How do the laws of supply and demand explain why the stars of Teen Mom are on the cover of Us Weekly? And how was the sale of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's baby pictures a little like a street drug deal?
After a decade spent toiling as an entertainment journalist and gossip columnist, Jo Piazza asks the hard questions about the business behind celebrity. Make no mistake: celebrity is an industry. Never in the course of human history has the market for celebrities been as saturated as it is today. Nearly every day most Americans will consume something a celebrity is selling - a fragrance, a sneaker, a song, a movie, a show, a tweet, or a photo in a magazine.
With the benefits of Piazza's unique access to the celebrity market, Celebrity, Inc. explains in detail what generates cash for the industry and what drains value faster than a starlet downs champagne in 12 fascinating case studies that tackle celebrities the way industry analysts would dissect any consumer brand.
    Critic Reviews:
"An economist at heart, Jo Piazza has consistently dug deeper to try to figure out why celebrities behave the way they do and what the consequences of their behavior will be. This book puts celebrities in context, but it also puts the consumer of celebrity in context. No one should feel bad about enjoying pop culture, but they should understand how it is being marketed to them. [Celebrity, Inc.] gives the reader the tools to do exactly that." (Bonnie Fuller, President of HollywoodLife.com)

How I Heard About The Book...
This book had been sitting in my Audible wish list for a while before I downloaded it, so I can't recall the exact referal... but I think it might have been mentioned in a Dan Kennedy newsletter a few months back.
    The Lesson/Argument in Three Sentences...
There is no real applicable lesson in here, as the book is basically a documentary in print detailing how the quote unquote, famous, actually make their money and play the fame-game. It also talks/reveals a lot about the mechanics of the entertainment business; covering things like how to "buy an Oscar win" . I guess if you are trying to be the next Paris Hilton it may help you forecast/project/plan out your income streams, but it's more of a education on 'how the game is played' than a playbook.
    Why Read/Listened To It ...
Maybe you're not obsessed with celebrity like Fleur (my wife) is, but if you are at all interested in learning the economics of fame' this is well worth a read.
And if you're not overtly interested in discovering how celebrities earn their income', you should! 'Celebrity' is one of the largest, hottest and most in-demand industries' ... and as savvy entrepreneurs we should continue to stay abreast of other industries and how they work ...

However, the actual speaker's very redundant questionnaire could be shortened in repetition and thus expanded in to-be-asked information. That's my only major gripe. Unless you don't know how to download something you'll have no trouble, and if your taking a Marketing course I'm sure you can download these chapters, and yes I received all of them. Good Audio Book

    My First Experience with VangoNotes
This is my first VangoNotes experience. I used my VangoNotes for the entire book. It didn't replace the reading, but when I didn't have time to read the whole chapter first, it was good for giving me the 'jist' of what I needed to know. I started making a habit of listening to my VangoNotes chapter and taking notes first, before I read each chapter, because it was like an easy way of going over the chapter twice, which gave me a deeper grasp of the material, I thought. The second time, when I read the material, I wasn't busy trying to make sure that I jotted down every definition, because I'd already done that during my VangoNotes session. Instead, when I read the chapter, I could reflect on the stories that were being told, and the definitions popped out at me as part of the material, allowing better comprehension. I wish all of my class notes were available on Vango Notes. Loved it.
