    Publisher's Summary:
Kay Lansing grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, daughter of the landscaper to the wealthy and powerful Carrington family. One day, accompanying her father to work, six-year-old Kay overhears a quarrel between a man and a woman that ends with the man's caustic response: "I heard that song before."
That same evening, young Peter Carrington drives the 19-year-old daughter of neighbors home from a formal dinner dance at the Carrington estate, but she is not in her room the next morning and is never seen or heard from again. Decades later, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Peter, not only for his neighbor's disappearance but also for the subsequent drowning death of his own pregnant wife in their swimming pool. But when Kay Lansing, now a librarian in Englewood, asks Peter's permission to hold a literary benefit cocktail party on his estate, she comes to see Peter as misunderstood and when he begins to court her, she falls in love -- and marries him. However, she soon makes a discovery that leads her to question her husband's innocence. She believes that the key to the truth lies in the identities of the man and woman whose quarrel she witnessed as a child. What she does not realize is that uncovering what lies behind these memories may cost Kay her life.

    Pretty good who done it
I had a hard time keeping track of all the people and events in the beginning. The first of the book was way too slow but the end was great.
    Five Stars
The book was a great read. Kept you trying to figure out who did it.
    Five Stars
Another very good read from MHC.
Another Fabulous Story From Mary Higgins Clark
Yet again, Mary Higgins Clark has come up with a fabulous story that keeps you entangled to the very end...I just couldn't put it down...
Another great book from the Queen of Mystery
Kay Lansing wants to know who she heard when she was a child in a chapel, and if her husband is involved.
This book, the latest from Mary Higgins Clark, is a thrilling story. Clark continues her reign as the queen of mystery, although this isn't my favorite of her books. Her characters are well developed and the plot flows nicely.
My own complaint is with the new use of first person- Clark began using it in her last novel, and to me it detracts from the otherwise great story.

    Twisted Facts and Questionable Motives...
A robbery, the murder of a pregnant schoolteacher, followed by the disappearance of three witnesses - all take place at a Lake Tahoe motel and lead to a wrongful death suit. Time is running out on the case and there has been no significant progress; the previous attorney wants out. Nina Reilly takes over the case of the bereaved spouse, at the personal request of the victim's niece.
Her first action is to locate the witnesses - three brilliant math students - and she tracks two of them to Boston. When she finds the third in an island near Seattle, she has a plan.
But then more people start turning up dead, and all indications are that the man who robbed the students at the motel is responsible. As more facts surface, it becomes clear that money alone was not the motive - one of the students has a secret notebook in which he has recorded his work on a significant mathematical proof, and coincidentally, a large corporation in Seattle wants the notebook.
But the more Nina Reilly investigates, the more twisted become the facts. Soon, nothing is as it seems. And in a final confrontation between the alleged killer and her client, a whole new array of facts unfold. Only one man will still be standing in the end, and what she learns after it is over will blow Nina Reilly's mind.
Case of Lies (Nina Reilly)is exciting, and suspenseful storytelling that highlights still another Nina Reilly escapade.
I deducted one star after some of the plot points failed to add up to a plausible conclusion. Overall, however, I found the character Nina Reilly as engaging as usual.

    love the O'Shaunghnessy's
Part of the book was 5 stars, but other parts only 3 stars
There are various plot/story lines in this book. Some were very interesting, others only so-so. There was a lot of information about very high level math involving prime numbers. I admit that I skipped over some of the technical details, but I also did learn a few things. Most of the story kept my interest, but there was a big let down in the plot.
Not to give anything away, but one person's 'reason' for committing a particular crime was just ludicrous. It made no sense at all and really detracted from the overall story. If the O'Shaughnessys could have made the motive more understandable and realistic, it would have helped the story in general. I am glad that Nina returned to Tahoe, but she needs to stay put for a while. There has been too much moving, changing of partners and jobs, etc.

    Page turner
I give this book 5 stars even though it is not good as some of his others. Still, a page turner.
Anti-climax taken to a fine art
I loved The Emperor of Ocean Park. A fine literary work with mystery as its theme. I had high hopes that this one would be its equal. It's not. It's a poor mystery that fails as literature for precisely that reason. I noted that the author mentioned his admiration for LeCarre's works, and it would seem he had hoped to succeed in this venture along those same lines. But his grasp of the trade-craft required for the skills supposedly possessed and successfully wielded by the various protagonists is far from making that mark. And perhaps I'm too severe a critic because of actually being in the intelligence business at the time (and at most of the same places) these quasi-fictional events were to have occurred, but at least I know that Le Carre's fiction had the true nature of the craft as its underpinning. Thus those stories rang true on many levels, and this one simply doesn't. And it's not only in the craft, but in the nature of the fictional conspiracy the craft was designed to protect. And in the fatuousness of the goals of the supposedly worldly wise conspirators themselves. But yes, I gave it three stars, if only for the tremendous effort involved here to establish what might be labeled the glory of its promise, making the failure of that promise all the more significant. Hey, there's still something of the profound to be gained from the more resounding of failures.
    I love Stephen Carter books
I love Stephen Carter books. He is a great writer and you learn a lot of history with his books.Once you star he keeps you going until you finish.
Still reading this one. Though there are lots of ...
Still reading this one. Though there are lots of racial overtones, they are in a context where there was still a lot of problems with this: 1950s and 1960. The story line is intriguing and the book well written, though. It's a 'page turner' in terms of driving you on to find out the answers to the mystery. There are, of course, unfortunate choices made by some of the characters that cause more brokenness in their lives, but that is also the case in the Bible. Not for kids or adults with tender consciences. Should read with discernment.
    Review of Palace Council
I enjoyed this tale of Stephen Carter's just as I enjoyed two of his previous novels. His wanderings are enticing as he weaves a story.

    Action Without Adventure
Maybe this was a first novel? Nope, this is what Abbott does all the time I guess. Anorexic characterization that's much fatter than the plot. If you believe any of this tale, hey I've got a pair of bridges that are totally cheap lemme know, K? It reminded me of the early summer blockbuster movies Back in the 70s The ones that were all shoot-em-up car chases. Fine for the times, but un-viewable today. This story wouldn't get green-lighted for cable TV.
I stopped listening three times, but finally, with nothing else on my iPod and a long gym workout to fill it got finished with an ending that was unexpected as a baby's birth gender after a first trimester ultrasound.
Maybe this is aimed at prepubescent reading-challenged males? Actually I'm thinking that the interminable action scenes may have been assignments to the author in a creative writing class that he sort ran back to back without bothering to imagine a story for glue?
Phil Gigante made a buck here, probably deserved, not so much for his performance which is OK, but for his tenacity in reading "Collision".
    a worthwhile purchase
A little confusing during first half hour and a little too drawn out last hour but all in all the story developed well and the characters were interesting. Fast paced and NOT boring. The narrator was excellent and deserves 5 stars. He really made the book for me.
    Fast pace
What did you love best about Collision?
It wqas a fast moving plot that made it hard to put the book down. Some books with an esiponage plot, the characters are difficult to recognize, but the reader and the narration keeps one focused.
What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
godd dialogue with voice can to reconize the characters.
    Excellent
Thoroughly enjoyable thriller. First class narration. Recommended.
    Exciting--Obvious--Frustrating--Meh!
I picked up this book because of the narrator. I would like to say, there were some obvious problems with the hero who constantly made the dumbest mistakes. But he did have a worthwhile growth. I did not like the final confrontation between the heroes, and it was obvious, once you know the characters, who killed the wife.

    Excellent Narration
The narrator for this book is very good. He uses distinct voices for all the characters and makes the book a pleasure to listen to.

The story is fast moving with lots of action.
    A True Clasic....
I read this book years ago, and loved it. It has every thing from adventure and treachery in the jungles of Africa, to a civil war and a huge battle... What more could you ask for in When I found it on audible, I had to get it, and LOVE IT!!!
    enjoyable
it was enjoyable listening, a little difficult to follow the story when broke up into multiple listening periods, but enjoyable over all
    Boys? Own Adventure
This is a real ?Boys? Own Adventure? with heroes and villains, battles and treasure but no kissing! The language is a little dated but if one accepts it for what it is, a tale from the days of the British Empire, it is not cringe worthy. Despite having an East Coast of America accent, Jack Sondericker narrates this superbly. There are ?noises off? as pages are turned but it almost adds to the effect of having this read to one by a favourite great uncle, sitting in a big leather chair by a roaring fire. I very much enjoyed this utterly uncomplicated book but, and I am sorry for being a bit sexist here, would recommend it more to the chaps than the girls! At the price, it is superb value.

    Publisher's Summary:
The awe-inspiring duo returns in The Stone Monkey. Recruited to help the FBI and the Immigration and Naturalization Service perform the nearly impossible, Lincoln and Amelia track down a cargo ship headed for New York City carrying two dozen illegal Chinese immigrants, as well as the notorious human smuggler and killer known as "the Ghost". But when the Ghost's capture goes disastrously wrong, Lincoln and Amelia find themselves in a race against time. They must stop him before he can track down and murder the two surviving families who have escaped from the ship and vanished deep into the labyrinthine world of New York City's Chinatown.
Over the next harrowing 48 hours, the Ghost ruthlessly hunts for the families, while Rhyme struggles to find them before they die. Amelia pursues a very different kind of police work: forming a connection with one of the immigrants that may have consequences going to the core of her relationship with her partner and lover, Lincoln Rhyme.
The Stone Monkey abounds with Deaver's famous trademarks: wholly unexpected plot twists and breakneck pacing, reminding us once again of why People hailed him as the "master of ticking-bomb suspense" and Publishers Weekly called him the "most clever plotter on the planet".

    STONE MONKEY
Stone Monkey is one of the best books I have heard in a while. The story is fast paced but through with details. The characters are well defined and the narrator brings each of them to life with different voices. I listened to the whole book at one time because I just couldn't put it down.
    Another wonderful story.
Great story. Suspenseful, sad on the characters suffering. Narrator was wonderful with the changing of voices for the characters.
    Terrible Audio Quality
Good story but it felt disconnected due to being abridged. Audio quality was terrible. I had my speaker turned up to max just to hear it.
Not my favorite Lincoln Rhyme Novel
What did you like best about The Stone Monkey? What did you like least?
Although I normally LOVE Jeffery Deaver, this novel just seemed so-so to me, especially the audio version. Albeit it is abridged, but normally I can follow the abridged versions fairly well, e.g. Coffin Dancer. However with this novel there were parts of it that left me saying, "What just happened? Who is that character?" I will say that I could catch up and I finally figured out what was going on, but then the ending seemed like every other Jeffery Deaver novel, at least in the Lincoln Rhyme series, where there was a twist you probably could have seen coming and bam! They catch the bad guy. So as for his novel, eh, it was by far my least favorite so far. (I am currently on Vanished Man). Now, let me go on to talk about Boyd Gaines reading of the book. From the very first time I pressed 'play' to the very ending of the novel it was hard for me to hear Gaines' performance of the book. He made Sacs sound too much like a simpering female instead of the strong female cop that we all know her to be. Then even worse? His Chinese accent. The first time he started speaking with his faux Chinese accent I was really confused.

Days later two more bodies appear, begging the question -- Is a copycat murderer terrorizing Biloxi, or has a serial killer awoken from a 25-year slumber?
    Critic Reviews:
"A writer of exceptional talent." (The Milwaukee Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    One of 2007's best mysteries
I don't see much point in rehasing the plot, but I found this to be a wonderfully atmospheric novel. Haines does a superb job of creating a mood in which Carson Lynch, her damaged heroine finds her journalistic instincts emerging from the haze of grief that has paralyzed her for the previous 2 years. Carson deserves to take her place along with other unforgetable women of mystery such as Tess Monaghan, Anna Pigeon, Kinsey Milhone, Barbara Holloway, etc. I will be looking for a second episode for Carson.
The listen was greatly enhanced by the thick as molasses accent of Lauren Fortgang--not a perfect reading, but still quite memorable.
    Closure challenged
I very much liked the heroine of this book. Her strength and vulnerability drew me through the twists of the story rather easily. The suspense aspects were satisfying enough but the book falls far short as a romance (which it was, perhaps, never intended to be - but since I saw it listed as one I think it worth mentioning). There are three love interests presented instead of one and if the protagonist does make a choice, she does so in a later novel. There's nothing I hate worse than to hear 'stay tuned' at the end of the 11th hour of listening so if you're annoyed by this as well - be forewarned.
I think it a pity the author (or publisher) chose a possible sequel over a satisfying read because there was true potential there.
    Not bad
The reading repeated a couple of times (mistakes with the recording?) and the story was a little pulpy but all in all not a bad book. I would give the author another try, the narrator was so-so, not the best nor the worst
    Loved the novel
What did you love best about Revenant?
The story itself was great. Carson was a compelling protagonist I could resonate with. Carolyn was able to make her both damaged and strong in equal measure. Despite her flaws and rough edges, Carson was a protagonist to love and who needed love. The fact that Carson was trying to solve a murder mystery that had connections to the (very real) Biloxi mob (more or less) was great. Lastly, the fact that she (Carson) was trying to give children back to parents who'd lost their children when her career had led to the loss of her own child was a poignancy and an irony that one can't ignore, either. It was a stroke of brilliance, even though, as one who HAS lost a child, there are notes that always hit home...but I love it for that, for making me express what I always feel.
