    Engrossing Murder Mystery
Really liked The setting of Scotland in the 1950s in the Scottish highlands. Very authentic. Characters very alive and real. A gripping murder mystery that also highlighted some particular social issues of that time that I had not been aware of. Overall very enjoyable!

How far would you go to right a wrong?
For Michael Sykora, killing started as blind rage. Then it became something he's good at. To most of those who know him, Michael is a software designer, a smart but average guy with a workaholic nature. To a chosen few, Michael is a part-time hit man whose specialty is eliminating hard-core criminals.
Michael has managed to keep his two personas separate. Until now. When Nicki, a close friend, gets into trouble, Michael steps in to help. Having lost his fiance to a brutal crime, Michael will do whatever necessary to keep from losing another woman in his life.

Don't know how I missed this one!
    Any additional comments?
This book reminds me somewhat of a cross between the "In the Company of Killers" series by J A Redmirski and the early "Victor the Assassin" by Tom Woods.
This book really doesn't give the origins of the protagonist's (Michael Sykora) psych on becoming a killer with a code of ethics. Seems wealthy people pay him lots of money to avenge themselves or the ones they love who have had crimes committed against them (such as rape) and they know the justice system will fall short.
In this book a former flame who is also an ex-prostitute calls Michael because her life is being threatened. She's cleaned up her act, gone to college and now helps other women get off the street or out of abusive situations. The whole thing snowballs and it becomes a kill or be killed. I don't have to say who the winner is because there are 2 more books in the series so far.
The narrator, Eric Medler did a fantastic job.
This was a quick (Too Quick!) enjoyable listen.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
If you found this review helpful please indicate so.
    Thank You.
My third vigilante novel in two weeks
Actually, No Justice is very different from the two Robert Bidinatto novels (Hunter and Bad Deeds). It's a lot lighter and sort of fun, and unlike Hunter Michael Sykora sometimes kills for money. But mostly Michael Sykora kills bad guys who need killing whether he's paid or not. Killing criminals is a sideline he started after his fiance was murdered. Sykora is ...audacious! In his kills.
I enjoyed No Justice and look forward to listening to the other two books in the series. The audiobook is nicely narrated. I've read other Darcia Helle novels in ebook format in the past and she never disappoints. The first novel by Helle that I read was Hit List. It is memorable!
A dreadful novel made tolerable by the narrator
We are presented a novel that offers a plot so unbelievably stupid as to offend an intelligent reader. The prose is at the point of being offensive. To me it is amazing the author was able to get this novel published. i did in fact read the entire book, and therefore I will not return it. The best I can do is to help those not to follow in my footsteps by spending a credit much less money on this thing.
I will say however that the narrator was excellent. When I am done with this review, I am going to check out his other books. With his skills combined with a decent writer, I might find a gem.

    Needs to be a movie!
Rewritten with the title Digger, I loved this book. It was pretty intense at time and I couldn't put it down!
    Five Stars
Love all Goddard's books. On of my favorite author's.
    Thank God I finished It
This is a not a worthwhile read but I was determined to stick it out. My final thoghts were - I just want this to be over -How could all these people be so stupid? Very jerky plot - too many villians without believeable motives and shallow characters with no development. Seemed like just another attempt to out horror the current horrorers. (Is that really a word?) If this is typical Goddard, this is my first at last attempt at him. Thank heavens I got it a the used book store and didn't pay full price.
    Deja-vu
I loved the story the first time it was published.
Mr Goddard must be into the recycle program, as
the novel "Digger" appears to have been recycled into "Cheaters". In fact, the first couple of pages are taken exactly word for word from his earlier novel.
It will be a most interesting experience to finish reading "Cheaters" to find out how much of the story has been recycled.
I great, great thriller with no predictable ending
I loved this book. It is one of the few books I have ever read that doesn't give away the end until its time. Henry Culver is a great hero and cop. A MUST READ!!!!

Don't waste your credit / money
Just not worth the time. Weak characters, there were things that did not follow the story, things left out / not followed up, too easy to see where it is going so just follows the old boring girl related to freaks, freaks lure her "home", try to kill her, she survives, they are destroyed / have to wait for another time or some such BS.
    Silly and poorly read
I could not finish this book as it was annoyingly predictable. No twists just terror and unbelievable horror on every page. Filled with ghosts and goblins even a hand that moves on its own I was bored to tears. It was simply to obvious what was going to happen on every page. Try harder and get a better narrator next time. Sorry but I could not finish this book
    I just don't know
There was something missing in this story - not sure if it was in the reading or the writing. It just didn't flow well, and there were many times when I had to rewind it a bit and relisten in order to understand what was happening. It didn't help that all the women sounded like they had the same voice and accent. And half of the men....
Plus, one of the characters in the beginning of the story wasn't heard from again for no reason throughout the story, until the end... it was weird.
Great idea for a story. But I just didn't get it.

Awesome story with a different kind of character
What did you love best about Icon?
The character was simply amazing. Having the character be a big movie star really set him apart from most books. We have an idea of what movies stars are like and having this character interact with people and their assumptions really breaks the mold from a traditional character.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Icon?
I can't say it enough about the character, but Max Conroy was awesome. How he deals with this life altering ordeal as a celebrity gives a fresh take on a simple story. He can't behave life a normal person, because his face is everywhere. So he must handle this situation different then most people.
Have you listened to any of Ryan Johnsons other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but I really liked his voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I couldn't stop listening. I wanted to know what happens next.
    nice surprise
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes! it was under the radar, refreshing!
Have you listened to any of Ryan Johnsons other performances before? How does this one compare?
this is the first performance of ryan's that i've ever listened to
    not the best-not the worst
Would you listen to Icon again? Why?
no, the story was too stereotypic. the twists were not enough to ignore the fact that this is an "easy to see the finish" story
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
a little more suspense, and a couple more twists
Did Ryan Johnson do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I've heard better. the story needed a better narrator to liven up and distinguish better the characters in the story
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
yes, when the icon does a not so heroic thing in deserting someone who believed in him, and was trying to help him

    Publisher's Summary:
Curiosity about a murder that took place in an 18th century folly draws father and daughter team Peter and Georgia Marsh to attend a summer gala in honour of Jane Austen at Stourdens, a Georgian mansion in Kent. Robert Luckhurst, the murdered former owner of Stourdens, was an avid collector of Jane Austen memorabilia, and his collection is thought to contain secrets about the novelist that still remain to be revealed. Whether the Fettises, the new owners of Stourdens, should reveal them is fiercely debated. It is a battle in which the Marshes are caught up in in their search for the truth about Luckhursts death and a battle which pitches Georgia into danger as murder once again strikes at Stourden.
    Members Reviews:
    suspenseful Marsh and Daughter
Reviewing "Murder in Abbot's Folly" reminds me of the funeral of an exemplary person passing. No matter how much one rejoices in a life well lived, there must be sadness; after all, I have read all eight of the extant Marsh and Daughter. With author Amy Myers concentrating so fiercely on her Jack Colby car mysteries, who knows how long it will be before No. 9 comes to the States? Who could read the last sentences without a pang?
In "Murder in Abbot's Folly," Peter and Georgia Marsh see the murder of Robert Luckhurst, the owner of an estate house called Stourdens, 25 years earlier as a possible subject for the Marsh and Daughter treatment. Peter, a former police inspector now in a wheelchair, and his daughter Georgia attend a gala at Stourdens to get a feel of the place -- and do they ever! First, Georgia gets hit with an overwhelming "fingerprint of time" at the door of Abbot's Folly, the scene of the murder. Then the Marshes are on the scene when the current owner is herself murdered not far from the site of the earlier murder. In both cases, the owners were guarding Jane Austen memorabilia that others wished to exploit to create a tourist destination for Austen-philes.
Are the two murders linked? The Marshes don't like the coincidence. As they poke into the Luckhurst's murder, the duo threaten to dislodge a great many secrets that some in the modern day would kill to keep in the darkness.
"Murder in Abbot's Folly" is one of the most suspenseful of Myers' mysteries. The ending is a bit outlandish. Myers leaves few, if any clues, to the idenitity of the madman who perpetrates the crimes, and the murderer's motives seem improbable causes for murder. Nevertheless, the book is so fine that you won't mind. "Murder in Abbot's Folly" will provide insight into preservation, the greedy human heart, and Jane Austen herself. You won't be sorry you read it.

    ANOTHER PRETTY GOOD LANSDALE
Here is what I had forgotten about reading a
Lansdale book---how easy it is. The writing
just flows along, flows along. This book is not
as good as "The Downs", but, it is better than
some of the others that I have read (I think this
is my 6th). The author sure does pack a lot into
a story! There are good cops / lots of bad cops,
ghosts, a Mr. Myagi-kinda-dude, murders, guns,
lots of drinking. Of special note, don't miss the ex-
change between Tad and Joey in the restaurant,
    it is so, so good.
Darkness on the Edge of Sound
Attempting a crime thriller with a supernatural twist is risky literary business, but prolific author Joe Lansdale has the chops to pull it off - barely. This is the story of Harry Wilkes, who thanks to a severe childhood ear infection is given the unwanted gift of hindsight triggered by sounds. Put Harry in the vicinity of a violent death and, if triggered by the right sound, an instant replay of whatever gruesome past event took place. Needless to say, neither a pleasant nor desirable talent, which sentences poor Harry to a life of carefully plotted places and activities in an attempt to prevent the next horror show. But after living a life trying to avoid his "sixth sense", Harry must eventually make the choice of confronting his nightmares in order to help Kayla, former crush of his east-Texas childhood and current rookie cop on the local police force - and still a "hottie". While somewhat reminiscent of M. Night Shyamalan's "Sixth Sense", or more recently, or Tom Piccarilli's bizarre "Headstone City", Lansdale's twist on a second sight is fresh and unique.
"Echoes" starts fast and furious, getting the reader riveted early, but about midway through slows and starts gets a bit muddy. The dialogue is uneven - snappy and darkly humorous at times, dull and uninspired at others. But for me, much of the slowdown can be attributed to Tad Peters, a middle-aged drunk who happens to be a Bruce Lee-class martial artist, independently wealthy, wholly unbelievable, and totally annoying. But we're to believe that the sodden Tad has the mojo to turn Harry's life around, get them both off the sauce, save fair Kayla, and clear her father's good name. But thankfully, just before Tad manages to sink this notable effort, Lansdale recovers and salvages the story with a climax worthy of the crackerjack beginning.

    Poor
I was so disappointed in this book, it had reasonable ratings on this site and on Amazon. I felt it was less of a crime novel, and more of a life history of a rather obnoxious cop who flouted rules when it suited him. It gave a very poor view of the attitudes of the police who were interested only in their own variety of justice. The only reason I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 was that I did actually manage to finish it, albeit with a great feeling of having wasted my time on this tedious book.
    GREAT READ
