The Kill List: a top-secret catalogue of names held at the highest level of the US government. On it, those men and women who would threaten the world's security. And at the top of it, The Preacher, a radical Islamic cleric whose sermons inspire his followers to kill high-profile Western targets in the name of God.
As the bodies begin to pile up in America, Great Britain and across Europe, the message goes out: discover this man's identity, locate him and take him out. Tasked with what seems like an impossible job is an ex-US marine who has risen through the ranks to become one of America's most effective intelligence chiefs.
Now known only as The Tracker, he must gather what scant evidence there is, collate it and unmask The Preacher if he is to prevent the next spate of violent deaths. Aided only by a brilliant teenaged hacker, he must throw out the bait and see whether his deadly target can be drawn from his lair...

    ALONZO
I have read all of Forsyths' books and can't remember having read one that I haven't enjoyed except this one. Where does one start?
Plot; Frankly I felt there wasn't one, rather the book miandered all over the place, an over use of synamims interrupted the flow of the book, (why not use descriptive titles)
Characters: I thought these were badly drawn, in all, very shallow, to good to be true.
Quite obviously I didn't like this book at all, quality not in the same street as The Fist of God, Icon, or The Forth Protocol
    .
Would I buy another Forsyth book? of coarse. I will regard this (book) as an aberation
    Unlistenable-to
Frederick Forsyth used to be a first class thriller writer, up there with Len Deighton, certainly and Jean Le Carre, possibly. This is complete rubbish. First it is quite derivative....for example the hidden terrorist genre was handled well in the recent book I Am A Pilgrim and has been used by Tom Clancy and others. Here there is nothing new to offer, the plot is obvious and derivative and the characters are completely two dimensional and the reader doesent give a damn about any of them. And if that wasn't enough, the reader is terrible, he inserts pauses in the wrong parts of sentences and his foreign accents are a joke. One to avoid.
    Generic, superficial, uninteresting
What would have made The Kill List better?
The characters have no personality at all; they are all cookie-cutter stereotypes with no development and virtually no motives for their actions.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I was hoping for some kind of twist to make things interesting - but no.
How could the performance have been better?
He over-dramatizes, and his accents are god-awful.
What character would you cut from The Kill List?
There isn't a single interesting or compelling character in the entire book - rather than cutting any, the author needs give us at least one memorable personality.
    Any additional comments?
It's just a long list of event - he did this, then that, then this thing happened, so he did that - no suspense, no drama, no humour, and utterly predictable.
    Bristling terrorism thriller
Forsyth brings us a fast paced and well researched thriller that feels extremely pertinent due to recent events. I got through this in just two sittings, it worked really well as an audiobook and felt very visual, Ive no doubt will be a on the big screen soon.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
On the eve of the Cuban Revolution, headstrong 18-year-old Francesca Pacelli flees from her ruthless Mafia-boss father in Havana to the arms of her lover, a rebel fighting with Fidel Castro. Her father, desperate to send her to safety in the US, resorts to torture and blackmail as he searches the island for her.
So begins the first part of a spellbinding saga that spans three generations of the same family. Decades later, the family is lured back to Cuba by the promise of untold riches. But pursuing those riches brings danger as well as opportunity, and ultimately, Francesca's family must confront the lethal consequences of their choices.
From the troubled streets of Havana to the mean streets of Chicago, Havana Lost reveals the true cost of chasing power instead of love.
Havana Lost is award-winning author Libby Fischer Hellmann's 10th novel and third thriller that explores how strife and revolution affect the human spirit. Havana Lost is a testament to Hellmann's gift for authentic historical detail as well as her talent for writing compulsively readable and listenable thrillers.

    Historical romance/strong women protagonists-Great
My first Libby Fischer Hellmann audiobook-it won't be my last. A fascinating story arc from the late 1950s pre Cuban embargo-historically correct-I went to Cuba on a family vacation in the late 1950s. For a 16 year old California girl, Havana was even more wild than Hollywood. And the surfing was better too. Cuba was a beautiful land with pre revolutionary rumblings that finally frightened all the NorteAmericanos out.
Details the lives of 2 strong women who couldn't rely on the men in their lives; they took care of themselves, alone and pregnant..(pre birth control). This book was superior in detailing how some people just don't learn---Frankie,the willful 17 year North American girl, raised in Cuba who was torn from her lovers arms, pregnant with his child and forced to marry a cold older unloving man, remained willful as a senior citizen-in charge of the 'company'. Her daughter in law, Carla,a doctor in cuba was a nobody in America. She had the strength to repeat medical school when circumstances found her in Chicago, pregnant and broke and. finally, the young grand daughter and daughter who got caught up in the intricate manipulations of grand mother..It brought back to mind how controlled women were pre birth control when women got pregnant easily and had no control over their lives. The birth control pill didn't come out until the early 1960s and what a huge difference that made in the lives of women all over the world.
I wished this book would have been longer! I think Hellmann could have really gotten deeper into the character development. These were women I liked, for all their flaws and it ended with me wanting to know more about them and what happened when.....(no spoilers here) As it is, it's over 10 hours, but I didn't want it to end. I'd like to see a sequel to the book-there were some cliff-hangers that could be developed nicely (Hint-hint).
I listen to this book straight thru..began it at 9PM-fell asleep to it about 1AM... Thank goodness for my iPad sleep setting..I dreamt about Havana, woke up at 6AM and turned it back on again and listened almost all day until it was finished.

Thats why the Japs are mounting a bold sneak attack designed to wipe out the Americans. But the Rat Bastards know when and where the enemy plans to strike. Can they quit thrill-hunting and fighting each other long enough to become the killer combat until the Yanks need to survive?
    Editorial Reviews:
Book 14 of the Rat Bastards series follows a rag-tag World War II platoon as they prepare for a major Japanese offensive that could turn the tide of the war in the South Pacific. More introspective than earlier books in the series, Suicide River places the drama of the war alongside the internal tensions among platoon members and others sharing their hard-scrabble life in New Guinea. Performer Ray Porter's deep voice brings drama to the tale, and he does an excellent job nailing the soldiers' regional accents. If you've ever wondered what it was really like to fight in the South Pacific during WWII, Suicide River is an excellent choice.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Eight people are on a perilous collision course in a world that never sleeps. Their individual journeys are the culmination of a leading neurosurgeons herculean efforts - 10 years before - to save his dying wifes life. His research results in a chance discovery that will later completely alter society when AltaMira Pharmaceuticals releases Vigorex, the most explosive drug in a century, one that manipulates nucleotides in the human mind in a way that allows people to sleep and experience R.E.M. while they're awake.
As the story unfolds, a colorful cast of characters begin to take the drug, which if not taken properly will have hazardous consequences. But each of these people has undergone a deeply traumatic episode in their formative years, which will affect them in differing ways; murder, arson, kidnapping, vigilantism, among other crimes, will characterize their nightly personalities and send them crashing into one another.
    Critic Reviews:
"It takes the skillful work of a brilliant new author to sustain the suspense of a truly engaging narrative. You will find in these pages a staggeringly sober, meticulously researched and captivating chronicle of a gritty underworld reality. Following the lineage of influential narco-thrillers (e.g. A Scanner Darkly, Strange Days, and Limitless), St. John creates an architectural masterpiece in the convincing construction of a comprehensively systematic landscape of socio-psychological drama, the harsh reality of which is so recognizably human that it speaks authentically to the most deeply-rooted shadows and fears of our inner selves. While his prose is infused with rich language, imagery and metaphors - a true poetic testament to great literature - the incessant unfolding of the almost obsessively scripted suspense drives the reader onward into an entirely consuming cinematic journey. This is contemporary storytelling at its finest." (Lisa Marie Quillinan)

Captivating... you'll stay up late listening!
If Not For The Dawn is a captivating psychological thriller that takes you on a journey through eight seemingly unrelated lives, the dark place they each retreat to because of their own individual hardships, the refuge they find in this 'miracle drug', and the hypnotic collision that follows when their lives intersect in a surprising climax. St. John's characters are beautifully developed and are brought to life through his artful prose, his colorful imagery and his imaginative story telling. This is one of those books you are dying to know what happens next but you don't want to end. It's a favorite, in print and on audible.
    Character driven masterpiece!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of If Not for the Dawn to be better than the print version?
Don't know, I haven't read the printed version but David DeBoy did a damn good job with the narration.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Absolutely, it took a few hours to introduce the characters but man, did the story take off!!
What does David DeBoy bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Yes, as I previously stated DeBoy did an excellent job bringing the many characters to life. I think I would definitely enjoy the audible version over print.

    Title: A Night of Errors
Subtitle: An Inspector Appleby Mystery, Book 11
    Author: Michael Innes
    Narrator: Matt Addis
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-20-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 15 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
A gruelling night of shrouded motives and confused identities develops when the last of the Dromios is found murdered, with both of his hands burnt off. He was one of triplets, whose brothers had died in a fire 40 years previously. Inspector Appleby wrenches the facts from a melodrama in which the final solution is written in fire.
Born in Edinburgh in 1906, the son of the city's Director of Education, John Innes Mackintosh Stewart wrote a highly successful series of mystery stories under the pseudonym Michael Innes. Innes was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, where he was presented with the Matthew Arnold Memorial Prize and named a Bishop Frazer's scholar. After graduation he went to Vienna, to study Freudian psychoanalysis for a year and following his first book, an edition of Florio's translation of Montaigne, was offered a lectureship at the University of Leeds.
In 1932 he married Margaret Hardwick, a doctor, and they subsequently had five children including Angus, also a novelist. The year 1936 saw Innes as Professor of English at the University of Adelaide, during which tenure he wrote his first mystery story, Death at the President's Lodging. With his second, Hamlet Revenge, Innes firmly established his reputation as a highly entertaining and cultivated writer.
After the end of World War II, Innes returned to the UK and spent two years at Queen's University, Belfast where in 1949 he wrote the Journeying Boy, a novel notable for the richly comedic use of an Irish setting. He then settled down as a Reader in English Literature at Christ Church, Oxford, from which he retired in 1973.
His most famous character is 'John Appleby', who inspired a penchant for donnish detective fiction that lasts to this day. Innes's other well-known character is 'Honeybath', the painter and rather reluctant detective, who first appeared in 1975 in The Mysterious Commission. The last novel, Appleby and the Ospreys, was published in 1986, some eight years before his death in 1994.
    Members Reviews:
    Classic Appleby
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. I really like Matt Addis as a narrator as he manages to distinguish the different people without using silly or grating voices.
Who was your favorite character and why?
In this book Appleby is retired and so is able to have a drink when it's offered and be unconventional. However, he is invited in by a current police colleague who runs through the full gamut of emotions in response to the various antics and revelations along the way. He's my favourite in this story, although the butler, whose chronic alcoholism plays an important role, comes a close second.
    Any additional comments?
A very good story with lots of twists and turns.
    fanciful but pleasant book
All Michael Innes books are highly contrived and you either like ithem or you don't. This one has a slightly Gothic feel to it. The denouement is a bit underwhelming but good bedtime reading.all the same. Personally I liked the narration a lot, just like the book its very old time, if not plummy, but it suited the book.
    Dreadful performance
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the narrator, who has given Appleby the weirdest voice. He sounds as if he has had some kind of surgery.

    AWFUL
Would you try another book from Barbara Taylor Sissel and/or Gia St. Claire?
    No
What could Barbara Taylor Sissel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
    Added a real plotline?
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
    boring from start to finish
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Evidence of Life?
    most of them
    Any additional comments?
the narrator had a decent style but the story was so lightweight, repetitive and boring. hopefully, no one else MISTAKES this for a mystery which is the category it was in.
    TOO MUCH!
Okay.... I'm a woman and consider myself to be in touch with and able to express my deep feelings and like to hear about others' deep feelings. But, expression can get to the point of being too much! I became so sick and tired of hearing the constant whining of deep feelings, that I was ready to scream. This author can go on and on and on and on about small points from every single angle! Enough already - get to the story and quit the whining! I felt that the story was forced - that it was outlined and filler was contrived to meet the needs of the storyline. As far as a mystery/thriller - forget it. No real suspense and what little there was (maybe in the first couple of chapters).... I was to the point of not caring. The story dragged on way too long, was paced far too slow and Abby (the main character) was made to be silly, stupid and weak.
The narrator got on my nerves - too cutesy sounding and little-girl-like, which most of the time came across as whiny. This book was a waste of time and I wouldn't recommend it.
    Captivating
I enjoy thrillers once in a while and now I've found a great author in Barbara Taylor Sissel, when I'm in the mood to listen to one.
I enjoyed this book because its captivating and kept my interest throughout.
